It’s been nearly a year since plus size Libby has seen her best friend, Tyler. One look at him though and all of her old, more-than-friendly feelings return. But a good-looking guy like him couldn’t find her attractive… Could he?
Ty has been away from the woman of his dreams for nearly a year, and every day has been torture. He’s decided that he’s ready to take the leap. He had to know. Could Libby love him as more or would all their years of friendship be too much to risk?
Warning: This book contains hot chocolate, marshmallows, a sexy lawyer and a lot of naughty.
I was born and raised in Charleston, SC, but now live in the hottest place on earth: Orlando, FL. I have three beautiful children who keep me running non-stop. When I'm not juggling life and kids, you'll find me huddled away somewhere writing my next book or happily reading someone else's. Like most authors I've come across, I'm a coffee addict, own far too many books than I can fit on my shelves, and I go to work in my pajamas a lot.
I downloaded this because I thought it would be sweet to read about a gorgeous guy who is in love with a plus-sized woman. I'd still like it but I was totally turned off when the story starts out with her waiting for the man of her dreams--this ripped guy in hot clothes--and when he gets there she's wearing flannel pajama bottoms and a sweatshirt. I kept picturing her in them and it was so not sexy I couldn't get past it. Plus, she's making sugary hot chocolate with marshmallows. God, what a stereotype: the fat chick dressed like crap making fattening food. It's not that that wouldn't be okay as part of a book, it's not unrealistic, but having it be the center of an erotic romance just didn't work for me.
The story felt realistic enough, although I wanted a bit more of him telling her how she's wonderful inside, too, but I just wasn't into her at all. She felt dowdy and down on herself too much, she had no real personality, and I just didn't buy why he was so into her. (I don't know why she was into him, either, except that if he looks like the guy on the cover, he's good for a one-night stand, or a hundred.)
The ending was sweet but ridiculous (and dangerous: .
I was really disappointed. I even paid for this crap.
Reviewed for THC Reviews Her Xmas Present is a short, stand-alone, steamy contemporary romance novelette. Libby and Tyler have been best friends since kindergarten. Ever since their teen years, they’ve both been attracted to one another and would like to be more than friends. However, plus-size Libby worries that Tyler won’t be able to accept her body, while Tyler has been afraid of losing the best friend he has if she doesn’t feel the same way. After getting his law degree, Tyler moved away from their small hometown, so they haven’t seen each other for an entire year. Being apart has only made Tyler more certain that he wants Libby, so when he goes home for the holiday, he’s finally willing to risk everything to make her his.
Her Xmas Present is pretty short, just under forty pages, so there’s not a lot to it. The story is told in alternating first-person POV as Tyler returns home for Christmas and the first person he goes to see is Libby. He’s finally decided to take the plunge and let Libby know how much he loves her and wants her to be more than just a friend. The pair spend a couple of very brief chapters reconnecting before hitting the sheets, and from there, it’s all about the sex. This part is well done, hot and steamy but nothing kinky beyond a mere threat of spanking. The rapid progression from friendly reunion to steamy sex was tempered for me by the fact that Tyler and Libby are lifelong best friends, so they know each other extremely well and this is just a new step in their relationship for them. Each of them shows a little vulnerability that brought some nice emotion to the story. I like that Tyler was reassuring all along the way that Libby’s plus-size curves are beautiful to him. This was my first read by Christin Lovell, but I found it to be an enjoyable little holiday treat that has left me open to reading more of her work.
A short but sweet love story about best friends finally admitting their love for one another. Sexy scenes, funny moments and would be a great story if fully expanded. Major bonus points for the plus sized girl bring loved by a hot gorgeous man!
DNF at 50 percent. Was initially put off by Olivia's overabundant negative thoughts about herself. But the real problem is the lack of editing. Seems to be some confusion about colons and semicolons, what their jobs are, and if they're interchangeable (spoiler alert: they are NOT interchangeable). The adverb and adjective abuse is rampant, and about half the modifying phrases are misplaced.
It wasn't a bad book, I did enjoy it. I just felt that it was a little rushed. And the ending? Not sure how I feel about the proposal...but hey to each her own!
"He (Tyler Russell) stood just over six feet tall, a fine hunk of solid, lean muscle; his short, dark brown hair was spiked upwards, styled to perfection like always. His clothes ... drawing attention to his delicious frame before your eyes moved up to his beautiful, perfectly balanced features. His nose was well-defined, and he had a strong, sharp jaw; yet, there was a certain softness to his features that always gave him a youthful appearance; although, his brown eyes and pouty lips erased any illusion of innocence. He fed every woman between the lines with his signature smirk or the devilish sparkles in his eyes. The boastful lines he fed every woman were punctuated by his signature smirk and the devilish radiance in his eyes." There's something about those last two sentences - could it be repetition? But, other than that it describes me down to the last detail! In my dreams :) Olivia, on the other hand, is overweight/fat/morbidly obese (I've no idea how tall she is but, by her own description, she ain't slim). But little does she know that Tyler ... well, let him tell it for himself: "Her ample curves had always been a draw for men since we’d been out of high school. Because men, not boys, know how to handle a real woman’s body; and damn, did I want to handle hers!" It's time for sex - athletic sex. "Holy cow. I’m Ty’s girlfriend…and we had sex." Holy cow, I actually read this to the end. It's short but not worth the effort. 1 Star. I read it by mistake a second time - it's still pretty terrible.
I'll be honest, I needed a book with an 'X' in it for the 2013 A - Z book challenge! There aren't that many so chose this one for the sweet cover!!
It's not too bad at all, plus size 28/29 yr old lady and hot ripped lawyer whose been secretly in love with her since they were kids! Come on, what more do we want in a Christmas novella!
It's written with twin POV (one of my favorite ways as who doesn't want to know what a man's thinking!) and I have to mention that the spelling, grammar and formatting were all immaculate - nice job Christin!
I'd definitely read more by this author. Ooh and I loved that she was in her pj's drinking hot chocolate with him!
I am a fan of this author and found this book to be so good. This book is smaller than some but does not lack in character development or story line. This book is about Ty who loves his best friend but has been worried about telling her. Olivia feels the same but can not see how Ty can see past what she looks like to really care about her. This is a great story about love that even though it takes a little while to get there can be a powerful thing. If you have ever read this author you will enjoy this story, if not then pick up this book and give her a try you will not be disappointed. I would recommend this book to anyone
I love everything about this short love story. Olivia is not your average, run of the mill size 0 woman. She is lush and beautiful, and she's captured the heart of her hunky best friend of 24 years, Tyler. They've both been in love with each other for so long, but always afraid of losing the special friendship by taking it a step further. When Tyler decides it's time to take a chance and reach out, the sparks fly. A must read if you like the warm fuzzy feeling of a great love story. Well done
synopsis: libby is in love with her best friend, and hasn't seen him for a year because it hurts too much. ty is in love with his best friend because ditto. libby is overweight and thinks that no one will love her.
what i liked: the premise.
what i didn't like: the execution. there was so much insecurity flying back and forth, i couldn't believe that the main characters could even see anyone else was alive, let alone fall in love with anyone.
Tyler has been away for almost a year with a law firm working. He comes home and visits Libby. They have been friends since they were little. Libby adores Tyler and is glad to have him home.
Tyler is home for Libby he has loved her secretly for years. Despite her being a plus size woman he does not care.
Libby risks the friendship to see what will happen.
Another great quick story by this author I am enjoying her books.
Libby and Tyler had been best friends. Tyler had become a lawyer and was tired of denying his feelings for Olivia. He had been in love with her for so long and did not know if she felt the same way. Even when some guy when they were younger had asked her out, he just about lost it.
Libby had wanted Ty for so long. So when Ty approaches her about them being together she is taken back. Can her dreams really be coming true? Cam they truly make this work?
After being best friends for years Tyler decides to go for it and tell her he loves her and hopes Libby feels the same.
Libby was insecure because of her weight but I loved that Tyler was able to show her the truth of her beauty, not in spite of but because of her generous curves. Loved seeing two best friends find their true feeling for each other.
WOW!! I read this book, which was in the boxed set of 'A Naughty Little Christmas'. It's one of the BEST book I've read in a while, rated up there with my other favorite authors. I just cannot say how my I REALLY enjoyed this read!!! I cannot wait till I'm able (due to my TBR file overflowing) to read more from Mrs. Lovell!! She has personally given me HOPE for the future! THANK-YOU!!
About bestfriends that feeling a little bit more for each other. The base of this story is good, too bad it's just novella, because if it's a full length novel, I'll definitely read it. My first Christin Lovell and I adore this kind of BBW romance. Simple and romantic. Looking forward to read another. :)
They had been friends all their lives till high school but they both ignore the twinge of jealousy . They stay best friends till today her friend had moved away for a year making him realize he is truly in love with her and does she feel the same for him ? Can he convince her he is attracted to her plush curvy body?
It was short, sweet with a Christmas theme and easy to read? The characters are funny, full of strong and romantic content. Very enjoyable and must buy?
