Miguel is an immensely talented artist on the verge of making it into the big league. His life is uneventful until his friend, Billy, challenges him to immortalise, on canvas, a mysteriously magnificent waterfall on the Orange River in the serene Banana County. However, his mission becomes a roller coaster expedition filled with love, suspicion, greed, sharing, healing and reconciliation. Will he marshal the forces of good to triumph over evil? And ultimately, will he- an immigrant- find acceptance?
Different Colours, is a beautiful story written by Mbugua. It follows the life of Miguel (who was born Michael) as an artist who is hoping to make his big break, and work on a masterpiece. His friend Billy Joel, tells him about the magnificent waterfall in Banana County that he should paint. He sets off for the place and with time has to fend for himself and try to fit in. He also learns that there's more to the waterfall, as a rich and ruthless business man-Dick Teita- is bent on establishing a quarry that would destroy the waterfall. It's a good story, the language is simple- and you cannot help but feel as Miguel feels every time he is challenged by what he sees in Banana County.
the novel is quite interesting.the title is eye-catching, meks the reader to thnk abt the colours of rainbow bt the author isnt talking abt tht,the stuff is based on miguel as the protagonist who is a very determined guy infacts his acts r making me to thnk of the real image of the waterfall mostly whr he wants to name the painting he has. angela names it 'the paintng dat changd th village, whch to its true. tom names it different colour. this is whr the reader can get the meaning of the title. of the novel.
Enjoyed reading this book. At the end of the book, I did wish I could get into the a car and drive to Banana County and see Miguel's art for myself. First read of 2017, good choice.
