The ultimate reference on indigo dyeing techniques across the world, and a compendium of the most beautiful samples of indigo textiles Gloriously pieced together, much like the fine garments it portrays, this colorful book takes the reader on an international tour of indigo-colored textiles, presenting a huge swathe of remarkable clothing, people, and fabric. Catherine Legrand has spent more than twenty years traveling and researching the subject, and she has a deep knowledge of the ancient techniques, patterns, and clothing traditions that characterize ethnic textile design. The book explores the production of indigo textiles throughout America, China, India, Africa, Central Asia, Japan, Laos, and Vietnam. It features more than 500 color photographs and is completed by specially commissioned drawings that provide close-ups of patterns and cloths. 500+ color illustrations

More beauty than I can digest in one reading; I'll need to return to this one.

DNF. 45% of the book until the author even sees indigo. This ambling, rambling, self-discovery travelogue requires too much patience of the (this) reader

Omg! What a wonderful travel around the world and custom history. I never expected to find so interesting text since the images are amazing yet by themselves. Surprisely I found a complete story about the color, techniques,
Culture, and craftmen that still practice the art of dyeing, I feel Iike I met them and visit them workshops.I also learned the value of the garments made by hand and admire the people that proudly wear them.

Beautiful Pictures. Had to follow connections of text to pictures at time. Narrative theme is missing at both small and large scale.
