Hi, I'm Ryan! I was born in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada in 1980 and since then have written several books. You can read my Wikipedia page for more, or check out my author site at RyanNorth.ca!

I'm the author of the webcomic Dinosaur Comics (that's the comic where the pictures don't change but the words do, it's better than it sounds and I've also done crazy things like turn Shakespeare into a choose-your-own-path adventure, write a comic for Marvel about a girl with all the powers of a squirrel, or mess up walking my dog so badly it made the news.

I'm working on more stuff as we speak, hopefully it's good

Slamacow! The horrible Linch has escaped from his sandy bag prison and attacked the universe!!! Or is it the other way round??? Anyway, Jake the Dog and Finn the human are ready to save our lumpy butts once again... What time is it? ADVENTURE TIME!!!

There is something just so wholesome, so exquisitely uplifting in this series, that I just can't have enough! I am a big fan of the animation, so I decided why not reading the comics too? I was expecting the same plot of the first episode, but I was presently surprised when I got a new, original story! Just as always, funny, punny, awesomy! Finn & Jake to the rescue! :)

Well this was a read for the #GettingGraphic readalong I'm hosting today and it was brilliant! My first 5* read and it was just too silly, fun and likeable not to get a 5* rating.

We get introduced to Jake, Finn, Lumpy Space Princess, Princess Bubblegum, Ice King and many more in this volume. It quickly becomes apparent that there's a lot to love about these characters, there quirks and funny moments in particular.

I loved the silly story, but more than anything the art and playful design of this worked so well for me. The bold colours and wording form a cohesive but engaging journey for the eye to travel tye page and I just fell in love!

5*s - Highly recommended and I will pick up more in the series!

Oh I loved this story. I was glued to it until I was through this volume. I love when the snail is in there. Snails rock! This one also showed a lot of teamwork and introduced DP. I loved the new parts it added with the Lich and how gripping the story was. I was starting to get worried for a bit there.

I read this as a digital edition off Comixology during its SXSW 2014 giveaway, but the strange thing though is that they don't actually sell the title on a regular basis. This was more a one-off gift to Comixology users.

I've never watched an episode of Adventure Time, but I've had an impression that it's a cartoon that kids and their stoner older brothers could watch together. I've seen enough to surmise that it's a trippy show and having read this collected edition of the Adventure Time comicbook, I was right.

For a free download, this book is loaded. Not only does it have the first four issues of the series, it also has a cover galleries for the variant covers and it even have some notes in the margins you could read. It's also gave me a hankering to watch the show, maybe soon if I can sample a few episodes.

Oh my glob! This was so CUTE & AMAZING!!! It really captures the feeling that the show has, which I absolutely LOVE! The characters were adorable, the world is adorably cute. Though I wish the writer (Ryan north) took his time and introduced us to each world rather than starting with the story immediately. Like how the show introduced us to the Candy kingdom then to the Lumpy Space and so on and so forth. I wished, to see worlds introduced in each issue. Which then carries the plot. Overall I thought that this comic was AMAZING!!!

Full disclosure: narrative-wise this is probably a 4, but it's Adventure Time, which means my youngest brother adores it, and I am therefore full of love for it via him while I'm reading, and it's just so relentlessly fun, and the absurd sillyness doesn't stop it from having cool female characters who talk to each other about stuff that isn't male characters, and Jake and Finn's friendship is just super adorbs and I love it, what can I say. And this is even without the hilarious bottom-of-the-page commentary in pale green text or the astonishing artwork. It's cool. It's fun. I definitely want to keep reading as well as start watching the show.

What time is it?! ADVENTURE TIME COMICS REVIEW TIME!

I picked this up because I adore Adventure Time and thought it would be fun to read the comics that followed our mathematical heroes Finn and Jake in the magical land of Ooo.

The first volume spins the tale of how The Lich uses a bag with infinite space to suck up Ooo with a plan to then toss it into the sun and destroy everything once and for all. The story was good for the most part, though after the few heavy Lich episodes in the show, I've found I'm a bit tired of the Lich himself, though not what his appearances typically mean for the storyline and history of Ooo. So, while it was great for an Adventure Time story, the Lich aspect was a bit tiring for me.

The dialogue was spot-on and I can easily found my mind filling in the voice actors for their respective parts. It's also clever and funny, with a plenty of references sprinkled in for both the show and material beyond. I liked the little comments that they leave at the bottom of some of the pages as well.

The art is gorgeous and more or less resembles the show exactly. They do some fantastic things with those designs, though, so I can hardly complain. The cover gallery in the back of the book was also fun to look at since some of them were drawn in an artists specific style.

Overall, 4.5 is probably a better rating, but 4 is what I can give it. If you love Adventure Time, this is a fantastic way to indulge yourself beyond the show.

Oh My Glob! This was mathematical!! I felt like I was watching the show, it was so perfectly written. I was reading the speech bubbles in their voices in my head, I even read out loud LSP's dialogue to my husband - he thought it was hilarious :-D I can do a pretty good LSP impersonation.

It's filled with the typical Adventure Time humour that you'd expect, and all our favourites are in this. BMO is especially funny and adorable in this. I also want to mention the gorgeous glossy colour pages, very drool worthy.

The thing is, if you're like me and are up to date with the TV show then you can tell this is an older story. The characters haven't developed like they have in the TV show, but I still really enjoyed it. There were lots of laugh out loud moments.

Oh and there's little quotes right at the bottom of the page that break the fourth wall, and they were some of the funniest parts of the graphic novel.

A definite for Adventure Time fans!!

This book is so much fun!!! And the art is just so beautiful - really cute and pretty!!! So easy to read, I read this in one sitting as I was coming home from school :)
The story itself is 4 stars, but the book is a 5 stars book without a single doubt, because of those little notes at the end of some of the pages - those were so freaking hilarious!!! It was trying so hard not to laugh out loud in the bus...
The green notes were PERFECT, but also the little row of the panels that were in just a few pages, with Marceline and then the commercial - that one - and the black page made me get a few weird looks in the bus, because I couldn't control myself
Really if you like "Adventure Time", check out this comic!! So much fun!!!

(Also bonus: Marceline and Princess Bubblegum interaction!!! :D

There are a lot of things about this book that I loved. To start, the art looks amazingly like the cartoon. That's not so easily achieved as you'd think, for reference check out My Little Pony which is being disastrously pencilled and makes me cry whenever I see it. I had had such high hopes for that series and then the art happened. Yeah, no. The less said better. I will dis that book in its own review. This review is about Adventure Time!
The story starts off interestingly enough with Finn and Jake's baddest enemy, their arch-nemesis The Lich King, and the book does not pull any punches. The Lich King does more evil in this book than Dr. Doom has done in multiple series I've read recently from Marvel. Maybe they should hire the writer of this book . . .just sayin' Marvel. In any event, the story escalates from one dramatic turn to another leaving the Lich King victor by stories end, well almost . . . our heroes manage to turn it around in the end with help from old friends and some new ones.
I don't know how canonical the comic book is when compared to the cartoon but it seems like we're once and truly done with the Lich King by stories end, and the big gaping hole in the earth, yeah, that's fixed too. The art is marvelous and the story is good, the book is filled with gags, even almost invisible and impossible to read commentary at the bottom of the pages in off-white ink. It is a funny book, and it lives up to the cartoon's title, but the story does seem to drag on for a very long time. I don't think it merited 3 issues, two would have gotten the story told as easily. And that is likely my only gripe with the book at all. The story lags in the middle, and towards the end. Otherwise, artwise this book is brilliant, the story is really solid, all the characters sound like themselves and not like the author.
As far as extras go, there are a few new pages in the book that are not in the single issues, but nothing fancy. The book does have a tremendous amount of cover reprints including some you couldn't possibly have been to collect unless you followed Pendleton Ward to every convention he went to last year. Its a good book and a lot cheaper than the single issues individually, a brilliant very kid friendly read so its okay for any kids who are fans of the show, nothing too graphically violent or extreme.

What Time is It?

This compilation of the first four issues (and some bonus material) of the Adventure Time comic book series is phenomenal! If you're a fan of the Cartoon Network hit series then you'll feel right at home as the characters from the Land of Ooo are ready to take you on all-new adventures. These comics aren't adaptations of Adventure Time episodes, they are original stories penned by noted comic author Ryan North. North doesn't miss a beat as his plots, characterizations, and dialogue flow right along and would be right at home in an episode of the cartoon.

The story contained in this first volume is the return of the Lich and his attempt to use a Bag of Holding (note: Dungeons & Dragons will love this reference, as well as the visual, which is a Crown Royal bag) to suck up the Land of Ooo and throw it into the sun. Finn and Jake, with help from Princess Bubblegum, Lumpy Space Princess, Marceline, the Ice King, and more set out to stop him.

While you don't need to be a fan of the show to enjoy this graphic novel it certainly wouldn't hurt. This book is peppered with little in-jokes and references to the show that only enhance the reader's enjoyment. This book also contains the short "BMO's Lesson" from the Kaboom Comics Free Comic Book Day 2012 issue, as well as complete cover gallery for the first four issues.

This book, much like the show it is based on, is a wildly fun tale for all ages. People who pick this up will not be disappointed.

This is one I bought years ago for my kids, and for some reason decided to pluck it off the shelves, and read for myself.

I really never watched the show much, but from what I've seen the book does well in keeping with the frenetic lunacy of the program. And, though the technicolor madness threatened to burn holes in my retinas, I'd have to say I mostly enjoyed it.

I'll tune in soon for volume two.

I got this as part of a Humble Bundle. It's definitely not something I would have picked up otherwise because I'm not familiar with the show and I'm not in the target audience. That being said, I enjoyed this volume more than I expected to. It's rather silly at times, but it actually ended up being funny too. The art is very colorful, which seems appropriate for the goofiness. My favorite part of the book has got to be the little footnotes at the bottom of the pages. At first, they were pretty innocuous and I had to go back to make sure I didn't miss any. Toward the end of the book, they felt a little overused because they were showing up on almost every page. They still added to the humor of the book.

I've never seen the tv show, but after reading this I definitely have to! I just can't decide who my favorite character is. All the princesses are great in their own way. Jake is fantastic with his shifting into just what Finn needs at any given time - even a jet that shoots missiles! The friend who recommended it commented that they drop subtle hits that the world as we know it had been destroyed by some nuclear explosion, but that it was subtle enough that children watching the show probably don't know it. Had she not mentioned it, I'm not sure I would've picked up on it until the very end when the epilogue spells it out. Anyway, it's a very unique world and different from anything I've read before!

Plus, it gets bonus points for: having a character named Melissa, even if she's just a mysterious person on the other end of a phone, and Jake & Finn's terrible puns - they're just my sense of humor!

This is everything you'd hope for in bringing a cartoon into another medium. North captures the essence of the show wonderfully, making it feel exactly like an episode, while also utilizing its graphic novel nature to add a few extra jokes in by way of commentary and "mini-comics" that run along the bottoms of many of the pages.

The art, too, is true to the show, from overall design to the bizarre facial expressions that one can't help but love.

If you're a fan of the show, then you'll love these. But if for whatever reason, you're one of the folks that just can't get into Adventure Time, well, then you best look elsewhere, as this is the spirit of the show and more.

This was my first introduction to the "Adventure Time" series, and it was pretty fun. I had seen Jake and Finn floating around the internet, and thought I would see what inspired such devotion among fans. Mostly, it's really funny. I love the way the characters talk, and Finn's enthusiasm is energizing. It's also really creative, but logical creativity (not just randomness), and I like how the characters are kind and positive to each other. I can't say I'm a huge fan of the art style, but for this kind of story it works.

I love the show so I decided to start reading the graphic novels. Although I loved the colorful artwork and the characters I wasn't a huge fan of the story in this volume itself. Still enjoyable especially with the little footnotes and I hate to admit it but I'm a sucker for the puns. Will be picking up the next one soon.

Gosto da dinâmica da demência animada a um ritmo mais "controlável". Resulta bem neste formato e permite atentar em detalhes jóia. Traduzido perde um bocado mas diverte apesar disso.
