For use in schools and libraries only. With text that covers ancient Egyptian food, housing, games, farming, medicine, clothing, religion, and jewelry, an interactive activity book explores the fascinating lives of ancient Egyptians through more than two dozen hands-on projects.
This a great book with lots of information and hands on projects related to Egypt. Readers can make mud bricks, papyrus, shaduf and lots of other things. In addition to an extensive glossary there is a list of additional books, periodicals, and websites in the back of the book for further research. In many ways this would be a great resource for teachers looking to do an Egypt series. It could certainly be used for factual information needs if a child was looking for a book on Egypt but the books emphasis is definitely on crafts and projects.
The book is cataloged as YA, which really surprises me. This is definitely a J book recommend this to teens/YA’s at your own peril.
Used this for Homeschool. The kids loved making papyrus paper and berry ink. I enjoyed the information preceding the projects as I shared before we began each one.
Interesting book with lots of information. The projects look fun too! When my kids are older I'd like to track this book back down and try some of the crafts with them.
I read this really quickly to see if I could get ideas for work. The projects to do in the book are pretty interesting, if a bit complicated for a library setting. I might try a few out myself at home though!
I taught a 6-week class for 8-10 year olds using projects from this book. It was really fun. The book was extremely helpful. It underestimated the amount of time each project would take. Great instructions and a lot of additional information about Egypt too.
Just went through this with a second child - excellent book. The title is deceptive. There are plenty of fun projects throughout, but it's loaded with wonderful information in each chapter as well.
