Semper Fi: An Erotic Romance

Rate this book
She wouldn't even be in the predicament if it weren't for Travis. A phone call in the middle of the night to ask for a "free pass" from her boyfriend of 7 1/2 years was hard to take seriously. When he doesn't get the answer he wanted, his drunken stupor is all it takes to tell her via text message that it's over. That's enough to irritate Mattie into flying home to deal with him.

However, bad weather grounds her flight out of Washington leaving her stranded in the airport all night with one other passenger... Logan McNarry.

Ordinarily, she wouldn't even think of speaking to him, but Travis' unexpected break up was just the opportunity she needed to seek passion in the arms of another man.

All this leads up to the predicament that Mattie must face. Choosing the safe, steady life already mapped out, or chasing the love and passion one only stumbles upon once in a lifetime.

I obsess over all things naughty and spontaneous. Growing up in the deep Romantic South, I was raised in a prominent family who prided themselves on their ability to appear normal to other socialites.

In the eyes of those who see me in the luxurious downtown Charleston shops, I am the typical southern woman. In the eyes of those who know me best, I am a sensual creature who thrives on spontaneous sexual adventures.

With two children in college, I now have time to explore avenues that were previously filled with family life. My husband and I now reside outside the city limits of Charleston with my rescued dogs and a cat.

Dear sexy, lickable, drool-inducing bookcover,

You and I need to have some words. You have deceived me once again. You advertise such sexiness inside, yet you didn't deliver. This was the last time I had relied on you to make a book choice. No more!

Sigh

The book started out so good. It held such promise, and then 10% in, it just took a turn for the worst. So what didn't I like about it? hmmm

I wanted a mindless erotic read after some intense books I've read lately. Sadly, the book didn't even deliver that. You know that it's bad when you find yourself skimming through most of the sex scenes. GASP!!! The horror!

There was this one scene on a sail boat with a pirate and captive scenario. This could have been good, but I found myself laughing histarically, and NOT because it was funny. In a span of 3 pages of this particular sex scene, the word "wench" is used by Logan 11 times, and yep, I counted!

The story itself is not very interesting. I found myself annoyed with Mattie less than 30% in and I couldn't really connect with Logan. The dialogue was comical and immature at times and the situations just not very realistic. And that is just one example of some very hard to believe situations in this book.

I hate giving poor reviews to books, but there was nothing really redeeming about this one for me.

1.5 stars...and that's only because I enjoyed the first few pages and the very first sex scene.

Before the Lowdown lemme just say

Lowdown: Mattie got a drunk dial from her practically-a-fiance Travis requesting a free pass. She said hell no and he told her to they are…

Since they have been together for seven years, she books a flight to his college town and gets stranded at the airport.

With a marine.

A H.O.T. one.

As far as erotic stories goes, this one is pretty good and has an actual story line. There are parts that read like a porno (it is erotica).

Besides the hot, hot monkey sex, the book is great because of
LOGAN!!! Tortured, stoic, possessive

Bigger than life in more ways than one…

His in insta-love with Mattie and refuses to let her go to her not-so-ex-boyfriend. He was all caveman and soft at the same time. Seeing a big guy like that struggling in wait for Mattie to choose him was really sweet.

Writing: Pretty decent
Dialogue: Pornish but good

I really enjoyed this novella about college student Mattie who whilst on her way to see the boyfriend who just dumped her gets stranded at the airport along with Marine Logan. It's love at first sight for Logan and scorned Mattie doesn't feel guilty acting on her desires.

I Don't usually go for instlove, but this was really believable and the fast pace of their relationship really added to the story.

4 stars just for Logan <3
 photo tumblr_mg4h2jEBUV1rkae0qo1_500_zps61404611.jpg

The best way to describe how the book start...?

 photo tumblr_m8dpmvWQo51rwcc6bo1_500_zps5a3a9149.gif
then....
 photo ohhshit_zps37cad4b7.gif

So the summary tells you what happens, and it's crazy how fast Logan just enters her life. I kind of felt bad for Travis at first, except I just ended up laughing at him in the end. Screw Travis. Let's talk about the pure male sex on a stick marine, Logan.

They met in a airport due to a hurricane, and well... *BAM*
 photo grinding_zps7a9bbfdb.gif

Then of course they fall for each other, and realize like in every other book, that it's like nothing they've ever felt before. Of course, there has to be a big thing that happens and it happens, and then there's a happy ending. In all reality, the plot was okay, because it was different but, the after the beginning, it's not as interesting. STILL GOOD, but not amazing.

Spoiler Ahead This is a really hot book cover and I wish this book was a hot as this cover. When Mattie's boyfriend Travis called in the middle of the night drunk to ask for a free pass she says no and he breaks up with her. So Mattie decides to fly home to deal with him when bad weather grounds her flight out of Washington leaving her stranded in the airport all night with one other passenger hot Marine Logan McNarry. Mattie is a political science student at Georgetown University when Travis breaks up with her after being together for almost 8 years via text. Logan is a Marine and was home for his father's funeral. He was planning to fly back to his unit when his flight is cancelled and he finds himself stuck in the airport overnight. I liked both of these character's. As Mattie and Logan start talking they both realizes that they have an attraction to one another maybe even love at first sight so instead of going on Mattie goes home with Logan. When she goes home the next day, Logan doesn't want to be parted but she's got to have things out with Travis. Things don't go as planned and Travis as her to marry him and she says yes. The sex scenes in this book were good. This was my first time reading this author's work I wanted more and excepted more from this book. The book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling.

You cant accuse this of not being HOT. I really enjoyed this short read. And I will never look at an airport the same...

Mattie seems to have self esteem issues we never really get a back story about, but she is a college student so I wrote it off as an age-thing. She was easy enough to like, unlike her long term boyfriend Travis.
I flip flopped about him. In the beginning I disliked him, in the middle he kinda grew on you, and at the end I hated him. He actually reminded me of an ex bf... Lol.
Enter Logan... Yeah, and what an entrance he can make. Vulberable, sweet, endearing, giant marine! The man was a mass of beautiful contridictions. Semper Fi *sigh*

In all this book was a bit of everything: romantic, funny, sexy, dramatic, mysterious, sexy and oh yeah, sexy. At times the shock value was a bit much and reactions seemed unrealistic BUT the story at the bottom of all of that was great. Erotic novels arent often known for being realistic anyways ;)

I am now on the hunt for a Marine! ;) And I admit, I will be looking behind all ticket counters on all my future travels! :) Not to mention, I love the photo on this cover... LOVE IT! Something about those abs that just makes you start to drool!

This was a quick and fun read. There are moments of sheer humor. Both Mattie and Logan have a dry, sarcastic sense of humor and I loved it!

Logan is a dream. He has honor, which once you learn his past, you realize he had honor well before he joined the Marines. He is a good man and you always want your heroine with a good man!

Mattie is a riot! She doesn't view herself as beautiful and has the typical female trait of not seeing herself the way others do. And she has been stuck in a lame relationship with Travis since she too young to know there are other options. She and Travis have been together for so long that it is just expected they end up together. So, when she meets Logan in the airport after Travis ended their relationship to see other people for awhile, she is puzzled by the chemistry that flows through her. I absolutely loved watching their relationship develop! It was beautiful!

I gave this 4 stars mainly because I felt the last two chapters were rushed to give the reader the HEA. I'm one of those strange birds, I guess, that does not need a HEA to be happy. I would have rather had two chapters of Mattie and Logan's adventures in getting to know each other and each other's lives instead of a rush to the alter! But otherwise... I truly enjoyed this book!

When Mattie receives a drunken, "free pass" phone call from her a long term boyfriend Travis, she sets off to the airport to confront him face to face. Angry and frustrated she runs into the hottest marine alive Logan, and sparks fly. What begins as a break flirtation gets messy when deeper feelings unexpectedly become an issue. Mattie is forced to decide between a familiar love, and the thrill of new romance.

I really liked this book and would actually rate it 3 1/2 stars if it was allowed. Though it had relationship drama, and secret pain, it still felt kind of light. Which was a good thing. It's not overly deep, but a hot fun read none the less. It won't make my favorite book list, but enough for me to explore other titles from this author. Though it's not BDSM themed, it has the same feel of the earlier Club Shadowlands novels Club Shadowlands (Masters of the Shadowlands, #1) by Cherise Sinclair . If you liked them, I think you could get into this also.

This is a great book, I read this book awhile back after Sassy found it! Then I came across it again and decided to review it! The second time reading was just as good as the first! That's not always the case, but this book has a little of everything. Lots of steamy scenes, a sweet guy and a family secret that will have your mouth dropping open in shock! Logan McNarry is not your typical bad boy but I promises you'll love him. Hello did you see the hot marine on the cover, what's not to love. (and I'm lucky to say I married one!) He is definitely one of sweetest book men I've read about, he falls head over heels and he has no plans on denying it. Mattie on the other hand already has her life mapped out and never really gave much thought to any other path. That is until a drunken call from her cheating boyfriend leads her straight into Logan. Logan stirs something in Mattie she never knew existed and certainly never felt. After an amazing encounter Mattie whole future is in question. Of course nothing is easy but one thing for sure love and fate always seem to win, right?

"Logan: 6:10 am Today-I miss you.

Quickly I typed in a return message: I'm not even at the end of the street yet.

Logan: 6:11 am Today-That's too far, come back?"

i loved mattie's relationship with travis and the difficulty of letting the relationship with travis go. was it a first love that has run itscourse oris there a future there? that's what mattie needs to find out...of course travis' actions toward the end make that easier.
enter logan....a seriously hot marine on leave who runs into mattie at the airport. a marine with a past...one with secrets but when mattie and logan hook up...well that airport scene fogged up my mirror!!!! can't wait to read more in this series.

Mattie gets drunk dialed by her boyfriend of 7 1/2 years, Travis, and since they're in different states he asks if he can screw someone else cuz he's horny. She says, "hell no" and he says, "we're done." She heads to the airport so she can fly to where he is and see him face to face. We get the impression that she's going to just talk to him to see what's up but later in the book we find out that she was going to break up with him.

She's stuck at the airport all night because of a storm and meets Logan who is a Marine who is on his way back to his unit after attending his father's funeral. The two hit it off and talk for hours. Next think you know they're kissing AND having sex behind the ticket counter at the gate (and getting caught)! Seriously! This scene was so ridiculous I just laughed. She had "heaving breasts" and "raging nipples" and when he looked at her "steam rose from his eyes." OMG what a crack up!

I was a bit perplexed by Mattie's insistence that Travis not sleep with anyone else and then she's goes and does it in public with a guy she just met. Double standard or what? Logan falls hard and fast for Mattie but Mattie doesn't have a clue what's going on in her life and can't decide what she wants to do about the two men.

The story goes on to deal with Mattie and Travis, Mattie and Logan, Mattie and her family, Logan and the memories and demons he's dealing with, and it kind of goes off into a weird area with Logan's dad and his kinky sex habits. It's a story that had a great idea but it was just written oddly, imho. What started out as a fun romp tried to become too deep and it just didn't work.

Wow!! This is a super hot story of unexpected love! Mattie, after a frustrating call from her boyfriend in a state of drunken stupor wanting a "Free Pass" to be with other people while away at college, finds herself stranded at the airport due to bad weather. Or maybe it was divine intervention. It seems that way when the only other passenger stranded in the entire airport with her is a smoking hot marine whose magnetism draws her to him in a way that she never expected. Sparks fly and one thing leads to another and after the flames die down to a warm glowing ember, Logan acts as if they are now a couple. Mattie is amazed by this man and can't seem to pull herself away. She's always been the responsible one...having her future all mapped out, safely with Travis by her side. Now she's confused...torn between a safe, normal relationship she's had for years with Travis and possibly her once in a lifetime chance at true love and happiness with a totally perfect stranger.
Laura did a wonderful job of showing the conflict within Mattie and the sex between her and Logan? Smoking hot!!!
I loved this book! One of my all time faves!! FIVE STARS since I can't give more!!

The concept of the story was good but it was poorly executed. The writing was corny, immature and over the top for the most part. (It read very YA.)

"I wrapped my arms tighter against him holding on. His cock was so hard I could almost use it as a ledge to sit on. Our kiss deepened, my own excitement grew."

Characters were poorly developed and after meeting each other in an airport, they are in love in less that a week even though they practically know nothing about the other. Unfortunately, the only thing impressive with this book is the cover.

This little Erotica book is a steamy read. I liked the characters and the story. I was interested in what was going to happen next. The scenes between Mattie Steinburg and LoganMcNarry were HOT. The description of their first encounter in the airport was a sizzler. Loved it. The story was engaging, and the supporting cast was great. Gracie was a hoot! Travis, her boyfriend of almost 8 years, I liked how that all worked out. I found Logan's tender moments believable and endearing.
There were a few editing flaws. I will likely pick up another book by these authors. Enjoyable!

The only reason I finished this book is because I felt guilty for spending money on it at Christmas time. It was awful. The first 1/4 was really good then, it was just .....,. Awful. There were things that made no sense. Lines that were so corny I had to laugh at the absurdidity of it. Reactions were unrealistic and unbelievable. I don't like to say bad things about books, because I love books and admire authors.... But this was just bad

Really enjoyed this book, great storyline that captures you and won't let you put down until finished. Well described characters and a super sexy alpha male who believes in love at first sight! He knows what he wants and isn't afraid to to after it. Definitely a hot quick read! The cover on the front of the book helps!!

I really liked the beginning ... the pace of this novel is what threw me. The first few chapters cover 12 hours (or so). The end of the story felt very rushed. I liked the characters, so enjoyed a story with a strong, sexy, badass Marine :) and liked the plot.

I devoured this book. After getting a little introduction to the characters in Shades of Shame, this book really brought everything together. Even though it's been years since Logan lost Leila, his struggle was still there. I liked that it didn't overpower the chemistry between Logan and Mattie. I loved their chemistry and both characters were fantastic! This is a great read!

3.5-4 stars

This was a pretty good story. I liked Logan and Mattie. This is the first book I've read by the author and I liked it enough that I may try another of her works in the future.

Mattie is a political science student at Georgetown. She's almost set to graduate and has a boyfriend, Travis, she's been with for almost 8 years. She's woken by his call in the middle of the night asking for a free pass to sleep around (they're at different colleges) and when he doesn't get it he breaks up with her via text. It seems pretty obvious from the beginning that her and Travis' relationship isn't exactly great when Mattie's reaction is more annoyance rather than jealousy or anger. I liked Mattie. She does make some mistakes but overall I liked her a lot. She's flying to see Travis to have things out when her flight is cancelled and she meets Logan.

Logan is a Marine and was home for his father's funeral. He was planning to fly back to his unit when his flight is cancelled and he finds himself stuck in the airport overnight. I liked Logan a lot. He's not what I'd call the typical alpha male but he's definitely a badass...with a sweet side. He's had a tough past and hasn't been in a relationship in a long time when he meets Mattie at the ariport and they strike up a conversation.

It's pretty much love at first sight for Logan...or maybe love at first conversation would be more accurate. Mattie feels a connection to and finds herself forgetting Travis more and more as she gets close to Logan. At this point Mattie intends to talk things out with Travis but it seems like she's planning to end things with him. Considering Travis had broken up with her in a drunken rage I didn't consider her interactions with Logan cheating. And they do have interactions...some conversations with mouths and others with their bodies. :D

Mattie decides not fly to Travis after all and goes with Logan to his house and they proceed to get to know each other even better. Mattie finds out that Travis (once he sobered up) had flown to see her and he's waiting at her apartment. When she goes home the next day, Logan doesn't want to be parted but she's got to have things out with Travis.

Unfortunately, Travis is an absolute ass and asks her to marry him while telling her that he fooled around with her sister (but it was ONLY kissing). She and Travis are both scheduled to visit home the next week and Travis told both their parents he was popping the question. Because of this and not wanting to go through a bunch of crap while at home, she agrees to take his ring and they'd "having things out" after the visit home. Travis is such an ass that he takes her answer as a real yes even when she tells him it's not. . She sends Travis on his way until they're both home the next week.

When Logan goes to visit Mattie, he finds the ring Travis gave her. When he hears what happened and the falsehood Mattie agreed to he's hurt and fears she'll take Travis back for real. He tells her how much she means to him and is determined to make her choose him and when she goes back to her hometown, she actually has 2 engagement rings and has to sort out who's ring to keep. Travis of course told their family that she'd agreed to marry him and so Mattie finds herself flung in to an unexpected engagement party. During the party she's confronted with some indisputable evidence that Travis is a complete ass and her sister has no loyalty to family. Fortunately this is the perfect reason for her to end things with Travis. Unfortunately, this isn't the end to the issues that come up.

Just as the Travis issue is settling down, Mattie finds out that Logan (who had left on a mission) was hurt and being sent home. She rushes back to Washington to see him and be with him in the hospital. There are also family secrets (on Logan's side) that come out and have to be dealt with. Fortunately, things are good for Mattie and Logan at this point and this helps Logan heal some of the scars the past left on him. Things are dealt with an Mattie and Logan start looking to the future and the story ends in a very nice HEA.

Overall I found the story pretty enjoyable. Logan was great and Mattie was pretty cool too (despite a few decisions I didn't agree with). The story wasn't perfect but I liked it and am glad I read this book. I'd recommend it. :D

I don't normally go for the military type romance novels. I know I know, there is nothing hotter than a man in uniform that can take CHARGE. I got this book on a Father’s Day promotional price and let me just say I would PAY big bucks for it. The story isn't the typical paratrooper male swooping in to save the damsel in distress that I have become so accustomed to reading in a military based novel. Their chance meeting in the airport was unexpected and the instant chemistry had me reading faster. The series of events that took place were alluring and titillating, not predictable, which was a breath of fresh air. Logan is a “masterpiece of bulging muscles”, a commanding presence, but not an over the top dominant. His past has left him with physical and emotional scars. As a marine, he learned to serve, protect and fight the world’s demons, but now he must fight the demons of his past and lay them to rest. He manages not to become so jaded that it inhibits his chance to let love into his life. As a lover, his tenderness was surprising and endearing. Got a craving? Try whipping up some of this satisfying man candy. Start with some sweetness and tenderness, add a “dash of kinky” to make him playful and you've got a recipe for some lip-licking goodness. (Mm…mm Good)

On the other hand, Mattie is a determined, intelligent college student who has her whole future planned. She doesn't adhere to the typical “a woman’s place is in the home” mind set. She’s not afraid to take chances. She knows what she wants and she goes for it both in life and in love. With two simple words, “Choose me” Mattie has to make a life-changing decision. Will she choose the man she knows is safe or choose the man who makes her feel safe?

“Mattie, I love you. I will fight for you. But I can't fight your past. No more than you can fight mine. You either want me, baggage and all, or you don’t. It’s that simple.” –Logan.

A chance happenstance is all it takes for the wheels of change to be set in motion on a quest for a love that would not only be fulfilling but robust as well. As a reader I found myself having ”ah” moments throughout the story, such as at the locker in the airport or with the special message. Those details will make the most cynical of hearts melt. I had several “O” moments as well. It’s an erotic romance…what do you expect? Some of my previous choices in books have left me uninterested and with a bad taste in my mouth. This book has my mouth watering! This is a 5-star General. It was refreshing, like an after-dinner mint to cleanse the palate. I couldn't get enough of this story. I am definitely going to continue my new love affair with the author’s Shades of Shame.
