Splosh the Duck and his friends are lining up to take a dip in the pool. Dressed in their best bathing suits and swimming accessories, the adorable ducks waddle, bounce, and splash. Count from 1 to 10 as each duck approaches the pool! The soft padded covers, rounded corners and sturdy board pages make this title a perfect fit for preschoolers!
David Melling grew up in London with various siblings and a selection of animals, including a dog. It took him a while to decide what he wanted to do, but he never stopped drawing. He worked as a cel renderer and background artist in several animation studios before he began illustrating children’s books. His work includes the Hugless Douglas series and The Kiss That Missed, which was short-listed for the Kate Greenaway Medal. To date he has created around 150 books in over thirty languages. David Melling lives in Oxfordshire, England, with his wife and two children.
One of the cuter counting books that I've come across.
I can't quite give it a four star rating because I prefer a bit more of a narrative, but I think that kids would quite like it. It's got engaging art that's sure to have them giggling and eager to point out each particular duck in the line-up. The counting is presented with amusing little rhymes and even though it's a counting poem it tells a story, which puts it above all of the repetitive counting songs I learned as a child.
Narrative: Procedural Poem Art: Delicate and engaging Price: $8.95
The only thing that would make this book better was if it was bathtub friendly. Watching 10 little ducks jump into the pool one by one is perfect for your little duckie to splash around in. Splish, Splash, Splosh is short, only 10 pages to practice counting. Perfect for a wee one who prefers to bang on the pages than listen to the story. The illustrations are hilarious too. Funny picture books that can pull it off? Yes please.
This was a really fun book to read before bed. The rhymes have a nice flow, the length is perfect and the illustrations are adorable! My 3-year-old wanted me to give it one star because, at the end of the book when they all jump in the pool, "they went in the pool without their mommy!" We will definitely be reading this one again, although I may have to add my own editorial at the end to include a watchful mother, if for no other reason than to appease a very observant 3-year-old.
Lovely early counting book. Really fun to see how the different ducks accessorise for the pool!
Some of the ducks get themselves into real predicaments with their rubber rings which adds to the interest of the book and holds your interest.
Bud enjoys pointing to the ducks as we make the sounds. A sweet little book that is petite enough for us to keep in his changing bag for a quick story on the go.
Do your little ones loves splashing in the pool for summertime fun? If so, they will love this spin on little ducks wanting to take a dip into their favorite inflatable pool. A little duck named Splosh wants to take a dip but soon finds he is not alone. There are 9 fluffy little ducks that want to join him. Little readers can count them one by one. Each little duck brings about his own unique swim gear. Little readers will have fun counting and guessing what each piece of swim gear is called. Parents will enjoy sharing this sturdy padded board book and teaching their little ones new words, colors and shapes. Colorful illustrations will have readers giggling at the little ducks shenanigans.
What a fun board book to sing to the song 5 Little Ducks went out to play! 10 little ducks find a pool to play in and are hesitant at first to get in. When a butterfly lands on the nose of a precariously placed duck in the line of ducks waiting to jump off the diving board he sneezes and gets the party going! The illustrations give parents a lot to talk about with early talkers about what the ducks are doing and how they might feel.
A new pillar for 0 - 3 story time with me (paired with the song/fingerplay "5 Little Ducks", of course). A great counting book with perfectly rhythmic application of onomatopoeia. SPLOOSH!
This was an adorable little book of numbers. I read it to Lilly about ten times total, but I did it in both German and English to try to help her learn another language!
This was a cute little book with lots to talk about and analyze in the pictures. The description says it is great for preschoolers, but I think the simplicity is more suited to toddlers.
