I think this book might take the prize for the longest book I’ve read (besides the Bible!). It’s over 1,000 pages. Overall, I have to say I still like Eric Metaxas’ biography of Dietrich Bonhoeffer better as it’s a little more concise (it’s still around 600 pages, though!), but Eric Metaxas could not have written his book if this one hadn’t been written first! I learned some interesting little tidbits that weren’t in the other Bonhoeffer biographies I’ve read, such as the fact that Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s grandmother had the same birthday as me, and his fiancée, Maria, was the third of seven children, like me! There were also some historical details that I’ll be weaving into my work-in-progress! And this biography was written by Dietrich’s best friend who married his niece, so it was also neat to get the perspective of someone so close to him.
