'Escaping Psychiatry' is a collection of three novellas with the same protagonist, Mary, a psychiatrist and writer. She is trying to develop her literary career but circumstances and friends conspire to keep dragging her back to psychiatry. In the third novella, 'Memory', Mary runs out of her apartment after a difficult encounter with her friend Phil, and goes missing. When she is found it seems that she was hit in the head, abducted and raped. As a result of the head injury she initially cannot recall what happened or remember many details of her life. She never recovers memory for the assault and finds it difficult to come to terms with something she cannot recall. Her relationships and her whole life are left in turmoil following the traumatic incident. The clues point towards a serial killer who could not finish his job in her case. But some things do not fit in. Who disturbed the killer? Why was she left there? The crime and the investigation surrounding it have a profound impact on Mary who decides that she needs to reconsider her life and start anew.
Exploring issues such as mental illness, memory, police investigation, trauma, serial killers and life as a single professional woman, 'Memory' is an intense and intriguing novella. Although this is a fictional work, the author, a forensic psychiatrist, brings her expertise and insight to the material, lifting it above a standard crime caper.
If you enjoy the characters, psychological depth and pace, why not check the other two novellas in the series: 'Cannon Fodder' and 'Teamwork'?

My name is Olga Núñez Miret and I’m a writer. I also do translations of other author’s work. What else? I was born in Barcelona, Spain, lived in the UK for many years and went back home again in the Spring 2018. Over the years I’ve done many things and had other lives but however far I wander I keep coming back to books and stories, my two earliest loves. When reading was no longer enough, I started writing. My first book was published in 2012 and my publications span different genres, from literary fiction to romance, Young Adult and psychological thrillers. I plan on writing more novels in the same genres and if my imagination so dictates, I will explore others. I love to connect with readers, so don’t hesitate to get in touch..

Me llamo Olga Núñez Miret y soy escritora.

Having read the previous two stories in the 'Escaping Psychiatry' series - and very much enjoyed them - I was keen to see what happened next for Mary, the author's psychiatrist-protagonist. I was not disappointed.

'Memory' is a departure from the other two stories, more personal, with the threat element being much closer to home. Olga Nunez Miret writes with a fine eye for the minutiae of human motivations and interactions. I, for one, hope this is not the last we have seen of the author's central character. She deserves more outings than a paltry three.

The trilogy is now available as a collection 'Escaping Psychiatry' - grab a copy and enjoy some interesting journeys into the psyche.

Olga Nunez Miret did not let her fans down with Memory: Escaping Psychiatry 3. The protagonist, Mary, returns, only this time she has to solve her own assault with the aid of her close friend Phil. I loved the twists and turns Olga took to throw the reader off. The characters were fully developed and the storyline was great. The Escaping Psychiatry series is definitely worth the read.

It's a change of pace to CANNON FODDER & TEAMWORK but it lets MEMORY develop the central character in a different way that not only showcases her vulnerability but also supporting characters from the other novellas. Read them all, and in order and you'll really enjoy them.
