Jacey thinks her life is worthless, when she finds herself in a psychiatric hospital after a failed attempt to end her life; her wounds miraculously healed. Devin, who claims to kill on touch, is also there. When Michael arrives, bearing telekinetic powers, he insists the government, and an even darker, more powerful force, wants them dead.
In a desperate attempt to escape for their lives, the three teens find they must confront an even greater adversary, themselves - and with a prophecy forced upon them, they must find a way to accept their fate, or rebel together, as one.
Rachel grew up in small town Massachusetts where she spent most of her time writing about strange paranormal creatures instead of paying attention in class. She has always been considered the ‘dreamy’ one with her head in the clouds. She now lives in Nevada with her two sons, a cat, and a rat named Sam.
Rachel Deagan is an incredible author. I am amazed every time I read a book by her. The Prophecy totally took me by storm because the way she set the story up and yes the EPIC epilogue! The way these characters mesh together is amazing and it left me wanting more and more. I was tempted to stalk Rachel and find out if she plans on writing any more for these guys because they had a story to tell and it is one you will want to read and re-read for years to come.
Jacey thinks her life is useless and not worth living. Nothing seems to be going anywhere for her and she feels like life is just passing by. She has a nagging feeling that something is off about her life but she just can't figure it out. She is tired and does not want to live anymore so she tries to kill herself. When she wakes up she is in a psychiatric hospital and does not know how she got there. Then she is baffled when she is looking for the scars that should be there that are not. She knows what she did and she can't understand how her wounds healed without leaving a scar.
Devin is admitted into the Psychiatric hospital because he claims he can kill people with a single touch. His family thinks he has lost his mind but Devin tells them he knows he can kill people with one touch. He can't explain it but he knows it is there.
Michael comes to the Psychiatric hospital having telekinetic powers. He knows he has these powers and he knows the government is after him and wants him for his powers. He also knows there is someone else out there with darker intentions and they intend on using him and others to fulfill a prophecy.
What will happen to these three teens? Will the accept the prophecy or will they fight together against the evil darkness that threatens to destroy them? This is a must read!!!!!!!
As I started reading this book my thoughts lingered towards Stephen King’s “Firestarter” after reading a bit more, I considered a bit of X-men influence mixed in, and even further I started thinking about the TV show “Roswell” which I really loved and still do. A beginning mix of scifi is tossed to the wind with a heavy dose of fantasy.
We meet the characters one by one. Devin, who is trying to outrun the bad guys, fails but in a different way. Jacey, who is a quiet wallflower one minute and hell on wheels the next because she has to be. Michael, who seems to know what is going on when nobody else does. The three, created by The Project, are called the Star Children and each has their own special abilities. A mix of “races” that were created to “bring the world to a new consciousness” but are now being hunted.
Heading to Amid, a “hub between the worlds”, the three find themselves anything but safe. In a strange land, with even stranger’s life beings and features around them, they find answers along with questions. Wrongs are brought out into the open, families are reunited, some good and some bad. A mystical crystal, an alien type gps, is able to locate the energies of certain individuals. Use of the crystal benefits knowing who is coming and where people are going. This is essential knowledge as they hide from those trying to capture them.
As I read through the book, I found myself dealing with some head scratching moments. When you think that the characters would be freaking out a bit, they are actually really calm. Than when you think, ok, after being calm about everything else, why are they freaking out now? The three of them are brought together quickly near the beginning of the story and the story itself only last but a few days but there is way too much instant companionship and a romance that just happens way to fast.
I recommend this book to those who like a bit of fantasy. I don’t recommend this book to anyone who is going through a difficult time that may cause them to be a bit mentally and emotionally unsure of themselves. The subject of suicide shows up throughout this book and the ending could cross the fine line for some individuals. Other than that, it’s an enjoyable read.
Alright, don't tell me this really was a 242 page book because I finished it in less than 3 hours in a single sitting. Where did the pages go? I don't understand it. It sort of seemed like a novella to me. I just read and read and I was done. I'm still amazed.
If you like fantasy, you would love this book. The most wonderful thing was the pace, it was so quick, I had to almost run after it it to keep a track and I LOVED that.
The plot is pretty good, the character sketches well done. And I loved Michael, that sassy a**. Wow, what a spunkster. Just loved, loved, loved his sense of humor. It had me giggling away (much to the dismay and glaring glances of my family members).
And towards the end was something that had my mind working overtime, trying to make sense of it all but still loving it. And the end, gah! How could you end it like that? What really happened? Now when's the next book coming up? Because I need one!
Overall, a very good fantast-ical book that will take your breath away.
Some sci-fi and some fantasy . Jacey is in a mental ward for attempted suicide. She meets Devin who is also in the mental ward for killing people. Then Michael shows up mysteriously to rescue Jacey and reveals the truth about them. They are more than crazy they are a hybrid type of alien . And someone is out to get them. Are you thinking strange yet?
The three of them are brought together quickly. For me their wasn't enough detail about the characters. You have a lot of plot and not a lot to give you a vivid picture and connection with these three kids.
This one just didn't do it for me. That doesn't mean that some of you won't enjoy it. It has a ton of great reviews so pick it up and judge for yourself.
