Taryn Ballard is happily married and a newly appointed analyst for a prestigious shipping company. Her career upsurges in record time, but she’s about to discover the real price of corporate life.
While on another business trip, Taryn suffers a brutal attack by a carjacker. Her husband isn’t there, but her co-worker Devin is. The accidental bond Taryn and Devin share pitches them into dangerous and confusing territory. Taryn struggles to discern both her feelings for her sexy protector and Wade’s reaction to it all. Unfamiliar emotions blur the rules of the game, and Wade’s ready to quit.
Taryn must rise above disaster to save her marriage. But is she ready to let go of the man who saved her life? In a single moment, Happenstance changes everything.
This book starts off like no other. There is a couple that is ACTUALLY happily married! You don't get many books like that. I enjoyed this one a lot. The romance was fun and there was some action thrown in.
Happenstance = happen + (circum)stance It means a chance occurrence, accident or coincidence.
Taryn Ballard is happily married to Wade, they have a great life together and are very loving to each other.
Nothing could tear them apart, right? Wrong.
Taryn has a new job, a job she loves, a job she is extremely good at. She is given the chance to make a difference in the company. On her way to a meeting she gets lost. Taryn calls her work colleague Devin to get directions and as she is talking she finds herself dragged from her car and suffers a traumatic attack. Devin rushes to her rescue, taking her to hospital and staying with her until she is discharged.
Prior to this Wade starts to feel jealous of his wife's new found vigour for life, her job, and what he believes is her growing attraction to Devin. Devin has feelings for Taryn, but as far as she is concerned her marriage is what is important, and she feels nothing more than a passing attraction to Devin.
However these feelings become slightly confused following her attack, and subsequent rescue.
On returning home Wades jealousy becomes harder to handle, and the decision she makes radically changes the direction she believed her life would go in.
Taryn, Wade and Devin are all struggling to cope with their feelings and fate again intervenes to throw a spanner in the works.
Does this second hand of fate deal a better set of circumstances for them? Will their lives ever be the same again? Will all 3 have their happy ever after or, as the author writes on the title page, will it be "After Happily Ever".
This is a great novella with a really good story. The reader is left guessing, almost till the last few pages, what will happen to the characters. The author tells the story in such a way that I cared about what happened to all of the characters involved, I felt for them all in having to go through so much.
I really enjoyed this story, one of the best I have read recently.
The author did a great job of building the characters and storyline, so that when Taryn is attacked and saved by her handsome co-worker, it’s easy to see how that situation could cause confusion and mixed feelings for everyone involved. A great example of how your life can change in an instant. I did not know how this book was going to turn out until the very end. I thoroughly enjoyed this story.
