Silesia Trilogy #2

The Triumvirate

Rate this book
They gained their freedom.

And lost everything.

Jared, Sahara, and their friends destroyed the Dragon-Lords and ended their reign of terror, but not before the Dragon-Lords exiled the people of Albadir into the void of space on a disabled ship. Determined to find their people and bring them home, they gamble everything on a desperate rescue operation.

But nothing can prepare them for the deadly truth. As they track the ship across the system, from the prison moon K’ilenfir to Brytnoth’s Askalon, they discover the price of their victory over the Dragon-Lords. For a new tyranny has risen from the ashes of the Dragon-Lords' rule — a ruthless paramilitary gang of drug lords and slave dealers headed by a group called the Triumvirate, which is now poised to decimate anyone and any world that stands in the way of their quest for power.

The stakes have never been higher. The danger has never been greater. And when Jared and Sahara discover that their people have fallen into the Triumvirate’s clutches, they must make a terrible choice. Will they fight for freedom once again?

And if they do, what will be the cost this time?

For S.K., writing is just one step away from breathing.

She took a winding path to her own publishing and writing career...heading first through a Ph.D. in Medieval Literature. But she's been writing since she could read, and she is now a screenwriter in Hollywood as well as a novelist.

Her favorite stories are the ones that show characters in extremes, where they have to make a choice between being the best version of themselves...or not. She also loves to make her characters face the darkness within their own hearts so that they're forced to find out who they really are when the lights go out.

I was lucky enough to read this book in advance...and it is fantastic! This is a darker, grittier story than Book 1, a study of human nature at its best and at its worst...and it's one heck of a wild ride. I loved the development of Sahara's character -- watching her grow and struggle and fall and try again to find her way in life. She is tough and vulnerable and passionate and broken, but struggling to find her identity and to overcome the ghosts of her past. We learn so much more about Jared and their friends, and meet some fascinating new enemies and allies along the way. And oh, do we visit some incredible worlds. Everything is so richly imagined and so unique...and I loved getting some more of the back story about why the worlds are the way they are. Nothing is ever as easy as it seems, and what started out as a simple enough plan quickly spirals out of control, as Sahara and crew discover just what happened in the aftermath of their rather Pyrrhic victory on Silesia.

I'm already dying to know what will happen in the next book!

From one circle into another the group find themselves and for me as reader it pulled me right into the swirling depths.

You think you have the idea of the main characters only to find there is more to them as you dig further. This is one of the things I look for when reading a series or trilogy. They also brought in more characters that added to the story. They were not just fluff there was depth and a richness to them that added to the depth of this second book.

There are many times the middle book in a trilogy that it seems to be a filler or a bridge to help crossover between the first and the last and tend not to have much depth to them. I can honestly state that is not the case here. This book carries much of its own material all on its own and was quite enjoyable to me so much so I did not want to put it down.

This is one of those rare instances where the sequel is better than the original. The Lords of Askalon is action packed! The story and the characters will keep the book in your hands and the pages turning. Great read!

The Triumvirate

So intense. These characters are growing but some definitely have more wiggle room to grow. And that ending... Can't wait to see what happens next
