No Matter the Cost

Hailing from the projects of South Baltimore, Poison is the child of two drug addicted parents. Growing up the only thing Poison knew how to do was to use what she had. Being none the wiser she did things that at the time she didn't know was just not right. As she grew older she learned that some of the things she did was not morally right but she did not care one way or another.

Poison meets Tre. Tre turns her on to dealing drugs and soon she begins to make Tre a lot of money. So much money that he cannot imagine how such a beautiful woman could be so poisonous and run the drug spots she does. When it came to this life or death game she manages spots that a lot of dudes were not able to in the past. The question is how was she able to do that? What exactly did she do to get in the position she was? These questions were never answered in the story.

Although Poison has all that money has to offer, the one thing she wants the most is the one thing she cannot have and that is Tre's heart. Poison is bound and determined to win the man of her dreams no matter who it may hurt in the end. Will she get the man and his heart or just the man for the moment?

“Poison” by Nicole Martin was an okay read at best. There were a lot of editing errors throughout the book. At times it was confusing to the reader when the narrator discussed the past and the present. Conversations were in italics. Usually that is done when the narrator is reminiscing on the past. The story itself was typical of a lot of street fiction. There were some scenarios in the story that were a bit much as if thrown in to make for more drama.

For the main character to be "poison" there wasn't anything that I read about her that made me think she was deadly, maybe a snake, but definitely not deadly. Also, too much time was given to irrelevant information such as how much was spent when she went shopping and what was purchased.

With a professional editor to clean up the typos and misspellings and a developmental editor to fine tune the story, this could have been rated a tad bit higher.

Poison is a compelling and hart worming story that shows the reader that you do not have to be born wealthy to make something of yourself. With so many twist and turns this book never has a dull moment in sight.

Poison somehow manages to attract a plethora of unwanted attention yet manages to work it out. Well...most of it.

The title of this book was perfect! Poison is what poison was! She was low down, dirty and unfortunately a product of her environment. However, I loved the fact that she was able to overcome her adversities and she was able to be with the love of her life...
