Bertie lives alone until he discovers Plantpet, a mysterious creature that is part plant and part pet, in a little cage out in the corner of the junkyard, but problems arise because Plantpet refuses to listen and will not stop digging holes.
As this book was published in 1994, I know there is no correlation to "Stranger Things." But the little plantpet reminded me of Dart. Couldn't get past that.
This book was such a colourful book. The story was good the illustrations were good and it was a great read.
I did a project on this and got an A because I'm one of "those" people. It took me a while. I kinda got tired of the book after reading it a million times. But, this book is great for kids and has a great lesson for people out there. YAY! Plantpet. It was pretty sad for those who didn't now. So brace yourself.... But then it is happpy! Like every good book has. Happy. Then sad. Then happy. Well maybe not all book have it.... Oh well. READ IT!
The book Plantpet is about a man who lives alone and finds a plant in a cage with a note attached. The plant starts walking around and becomes friends with the man. The man tries to leave the plant alone, but the plant shrivels up. The man learns a valuable lesson in friendship in the story. This is a great book to use in science or character education. The pictures are great and an art lesson could easily be generated by showing the book to the class.
Colour, shadow, movement and emotion spin a compelling story of isolation and togetherness that leaves room for us wonder about issues of companionship and captivity.

This is a very odd, but entertaining story about a very unusual pet. The narrative is fairly short, and the illustrations really complement the story. I read this while perusing an unusual store in Davis, West Virginia and it truly fit in there.
