Kenny's Back

Rate this book
Kenny walked into the old farm house as if he'd never been away, as if nothing he'd done had ever shattered their reputations. But was this the real Kenny, the man who had disappeared into the night five years earlier? He certainly wasn't behaving like it. There was something sinister about him, too vague to put into actual words. Even his romantic interest in Ingrid, the co-heir to the family estate, was unlike the man--he'd never shown a real interest in a woman before. Mar had to find out for sure--and he had to know if this was the same man he'd loved all those years ago!

Apparently, the natural and seemingly unbreakable bond Mar held with Kenny wasn't as strong as Mar had imagined. Or was it Mar's pride that turned Kenny away and inevitably caused him to leave? Now Kenny's back, five years later. At least, Mar's sister, Ingrid, says the man she's wooed into the Baker home is Kenny. Mar isn't so sure, but he's going to find out.

I've never met a man like Mar. Strong, hard-working, stubborn, gay, and more than a touch neurotic. It was a little tough for me to relate to him personally, but his character never swayed. I found that intriguing, almost noble, in a way.

Kenny, the care-free and wanton, now him, I could relate. Despite his flaws, all he wanted was love. Actually, all he wanted was everything. All he needed was love, whether or not that would be enough to hold him for long is another story, not this one.

The entire cast of supporting characters was developed well. Ingrid, Olsen, Dexter, and even the few cameos by Ms. Baker, set each scene and helped make the plot believable.

Kenny's Back though, and Mar couldn't be more happy or confused, and that's all that matters in this story.

I found the twists unique~interesting, especially the ending. The only thing I wasn't fond of was the story's more sappy moments--a bit too sappy for me. While other readers love this kind of stuff--the touches, subtle moments, hopes, anticipation, it's all a quandary to me. Give me a good ol' fashioned knock down drag out with great make up sex, and I'm good to go. Still, this was a nice read.

If you want a love story with strange twists and wonderful mushy moments as well as a bit of hot and fast man sex, Kenny's Back has it.

Told from Mar's POV, this story just did not work for me at all. A mixture of flashbacks and the present, it just seemed to plod along slowly. I found the characters very one dimensional and boring. The beautiful, easy flow that is present in many on Mr. Banis' books was missing in this one for some reason. Kenny is a smart man and it is very difficult to se how he would have gotten involved so deeply with Ingrid. The final wrap up where Kenny explained everything felt very rushed and then bam the book was over.

This is a good book, but if you are looking for sex and a happily ever after, then this isn't a book for you. It is well written, but if you are a romantic, then you won't get what you want till the end.

I loved this story. It zipped along at a cracking pace and once I started I had to keep reading until the end.
