Great cookbook in keeping with the Ghibli stories. These dishes inspire the same feelings that watching Ghibli movies do (at least for me!).

I have yet to try any of the recipes, but they look manageble and at the back of the cookbook there are multiple sections on how to do some of the techniques described and basic recipes that are used in multiple recipes. The pictures and lay-out are also true to the art and feeling that Ghibli inspires, so to me it's good enough to be adopted as the official Ghibli cookbook!

All style and no substance.

The first recipe I turned to had considerable errors.
The English style cherry cookies have no sugar and butter measurements listed in the ingredients and this isn’t the only recipe with errors.

I did actually want to cook some recipes not just have a pretty book to put on the shelf.

I give it a 4.5 for the movie memories, the layout, the creativity, and the pictures. I give it a 3 for my own memory of it not being a cookbook I would use, most ingredients can not be found close to where I live and are a little more labor intensive than I like…I prefer to leave it to the professionals and get all of these delicious things when I eat out in the city.

Reading this makes my heart feel all warm. One of my goals in 2024 is to learn how to make perfect rice. Ajitsuke tamago is another spin on jammy eggs I want to try - I've made tea eggs before, but never done a good ol' fashioned tamari soak. (I'm going to make some right now...)

Beautiful, but rather a gimmick. The photographs of the food are lovely. The recipes themselves have errors, and the audience this is aimed at is muddled. On one hand there's recipes for things like bacon and eggs and on the other hand he expects the reader to have a large range of equipment and ingredients that the average reader would not have readily to hand: grey salt, bouquet garni, azuki bean paste, a truckle of Mont-D'or Cheese, kombu seaweed,a steamer basket and the one that made me laugh most: 4 quails emptied and prepared by your butcher! It's not that I'm against having some more uncommon ingredients but there seemed little in between a recipe for sandwiches and recipes involving more complex ingredients, and he doesn't deign to suggest swaps. The structure is a bit peculiar with the basic recipes, tips and information on ingredients at the back.

Nieoficjalna książka kucharska Lisibli
.
- Powrót do marzeń,
- Szkarłatny Pilot,
- Zrywa się wiatr,
- Szopy w natarciu,
- Makowe wzgórze,
- Rodzinka Yamadów,
- Skorek i czarownica,
- Szept serca,
- Marnie. Przyjaciółka ze snów,
- Ruchomy zamek Hauru;
- Pongo,
- Opowieści z Ziemiomorza,
- Podniebna poczta Kiki,
- Księżniczka Mononoke,
- Laputa - podniebny zamek,
- Narzeczona dla kota,
- Tajemniczy świat Arrietty,
- Nausicaa z Doliny Wiatru,
- Spirited Away: w krainie bogów.
.
Dużo odświeżających i pysznych nowości w magicznym wydaniu.

As a lifelong Studio Ghibli fan, flipping through this book was a genuine delight. Thibaud Villanova has created a visually stunning love letter to the films, with gorgeous photography that instantly transports you into those whimsical worlds. The author's voice is clearly reverent, and my overall experience was one of warm nostalgia. However, that feeling faded a bit when I moved from admiring the pages to actually using them in the kitchen.

The core issue is that the book feels caught between two identities. Is it a practical guide for cooking or a beautiful art book for coffee tables? The recipes themselves are a mix of the charmingly simple, like Howl’s bacon and eggs, and the frustratingly complex, requiring niche ingredients like azuki bean paste with no suggested substitutions. This creates a muddled experience where a beginner might be intimidated and a seasoned cook may find the instructions lacking. While the organization by film is fun for browsing, it isn't the most practical for a cook, and the beautiful (sometimes overly decorative) font can actually hinder readability when your hands are covered in flour.

It’s a book I’m glad to have read for the joy of its visuals and the fun of remembering iconic movie scenes through food. But as a genuine cookbook, it falls short of being a reliable kitchen companion. It’s perfect for the dedicated Ghibli enthusiast who views cooking as a form of fandom and doesn’t mind a project, but it’s likely to leave the practical, everyday cook feeling a little disappointed.

This is the most gorgeous cookbook ever! 😍

The concept is freaking awesome and cute and the result just beautiful.

The book is extremely visually appealing, and very thorough with its tips and instructions. The typeface choices could probably have been better, the ingredients now written in such miniature font that I’d imagine would make some readers rub their eyes in frustration. Same with the (very pretty!) winding letters of some subheads that are a tad too squiggly to the point of being difficult to work out. But god the pages are pretty!

I also appreciate how many recipes were (at least semi) vegetarian, although a few were based on meat, too. Definitely made me ravenous!! Most of the recipes seem way too advanced for me and I doubt I’d actually try and make the effort to cook the dishes myself (maybe a few I would), but I love Japanese cuisine and Ghibli both, and I’d buy this book just to be able to look at it when I want to!

Officially, this is a stunning book. From the artwork to the photos and presentation of the food, it's absolutely GORGEOUS! Anyone buying this just for the recipes, however, might be disappointed. There are only about 35 on offer, and the last third of the book is taken up with "tips" that most serious cooks would already know. Still . . . for Studio Ghibli fans, it's sure to be a treat.

I bought this book translated to German for my son who likes Ghibli animation films and his favorite recipe so far is Calcifer's Breakfast.
I could imagine that he will try to cook more of its recipes soon.
