Lily's Mistake is the first book written by Pamela Ann I've ever read, and sorry but I didn't like it. For me, it was a succession of big WTF moments.

The storyplot was good enough (I like ex-lovers reunion, and I like childhood sweethearts stories too, so I rather went with it), but the characters, my God, they really got on my nerves.

Drake is an alpha jerk, plain and simple. He takes his childhood sweetheart/best friend/nearly family 's virginity and then walks out on her, because he thinks his parents will insist for a wedding and he just isn't ready for it. Fair enough. He doesn't speak a word to her for the next 8 years and, when she comes to work for him, suddenly decides he wants her, so he harasses her. Because, yes people, we're talking about harassment when you corner your employee every chance you've got, eye-rape her all the time or make sexual innuendos in every conversation. And of course, he goes all caveman on her at the slightest mention of another man, because, while he was having fun during those 8 years, she was supposed to remain untouched by anyone but him. Kill me now...

And, what to say about Lily? Such a doormat, God, I wanted to bitch-slap her most of the book. Her reactions made no sense to me. I do understand passion, but seriously, how dumb is it to think that having a sex-only relationship with your first love who broke your heart because you simply can't resist him is a good idea? And what to think of the plane scene, when Drake asks “Can I come inside you? Is it safe?” and she thinks "Was it? I had my period a week and a half ago. Am I ovulating? I have no clue. It should be okay, right?". Yeaaaah. Not. And it goes on, and on, she keeps thinking things and behaving in a way that had me roll my eyes almost constantly.

Even the sex was creepy, and not even in the kinky way. The obsessive references to how tight she is, and how painful it is for her when he tries to fit inside of her (she even bleeds once), and how he wants to stretch her and break her open (his words, not mine), they were just icky! Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against cervix bumpers, but does this have to be mention every single time they have sex?

So, yeah, I basically liked the story but the way it was treated simply didn't do it for me. I finished the book by pure strength of will, and actually liked the ending (the last 10 pages, more or less) better than the beginning, but not enough to redeem this book in my eyes.

“Stars, Babe. I want you to see those fucking stars.”

Drake and Lily grew up together, even with the two year age gap, they had a bond that is so unique and special that their parents always knew deep down that they would end up together. When they were young, they took vows, “marrying” each other, which forever sealed Lily’s fate as forever being Drake’s girl.
“I, Drake Tatum, take Lily Alexander forever and a day. I promise to give her flowers and kisses forever and ever until I die.” I giggle when Drake mentions kisses.

“It’s your turn now, Lil. Just follow what I said.” I nod and clear my throat. Smiling, I repeat his words.

“I, Lily Alexander, take Drake forever. I promise to give him kisses and share my Reese’s peanut buttercups once a week forever and ever until I die.”

Fast forward Ten years later, after Lily loses her Dad to cancer, she joins Drake’s family to a trip to the Caribbean, and even though Drake has been trying to ignore her, she gives him her most valuable gift, her virginity. After an explosive night, Drake leaves with no word and scars Lily for life.
” Drake took my heart and left with it. He never gave it back.”

Eight years later under the persuasion of their mothers, Lily finds herself being talked into working for Drake, it’s not easy since they haven’t spoken or seen each other since that one night. Immediately there is tension, all the unanswered questions are in the way. Both Lily and Drake have someone in their lives, where Lily’s is new and hopefully beginning, Drake finds himself in a loveless engagement.

The first day back in each other’s company, Drake breaks off his engagement and makes his intentions known. But unlucky for him Lily is set to fight him every step of the way; he threw her away, he didn’t want her then and now because he finally realizes he’s ready he wants every piece of her
“I did get the memo, Lil. My fate was sealed the moment you were born into this world. You were mine since day one. You were definitely mine when I took your virginity. Do you honestly think that I would let you give your virginity away to any man? No, over my dead body, and you know it, too. You were mine then, and you are mine now.”

Lily can’t help what her body and heart wants, no matter how hard she tries to fight him, he will always own her
”Funny… eight days… It took only eight days for me to realize that I’m still in love with Drake. After eight years of loathing the man, I just succumb and crumble the second he kisses me.”

Things progress really fast, Lily can’t even catch up to what is happening all around her, she had to choose between the man that broke her heart and the one who is safe
“It was stars you stared at when I took you the first time. It’s a token for that magical night. I remember everything about it like it was just yesterday. The way you looked, smelled, felt under my touch. I have never forgotten you. You were the ghost that haunted my thoughts and dreams. I’m done thinking and dreaming, I want to live it… with you.”

On top of the need for Drake to prove that Lily can trust him with her heart, they are faced with drama, it was almost too much in such a short period of time. I’m giving this book the benefit of doubt, but some things were just crazy … Then my favorite, there were these lines in the book that had me either giggling, rolling my eyes or scratching my head...
unloads his semen.”

“Our eyes twinkle, obviously happy.”

“he annihilates my body,”

“I’m going to destroy this nice, little, tight pussy, Babe. You won’t be able to move for a few days without hurting. Each time you do, you’ll be reminded how I tore this up.

“My cock will own, burn, sting and fucking mark you.”

“Oh my, you’re hitting the wall of my cervix.”

I can totally see him saying this too … LMAO

**************************************************

I am seriously torn with this one, I really wanted to like it as much as the rest of my friends, but it’s probably just me … seriously bummed, Drake had the potential to be an alpha I could have loved, but he kept crossing over that line and went straight into assholic jerk. The book also moved so quickly I didn't get to connect with the characters as much as I wanted to. Regardless, I will still check out other books by this author, one I hope to love !

I can't believe I actually just had to give my first 1star review. This was absolutely atrocious. I laughed my ass off through the majority of this book. The rest of the time I was [image error]

This thing was so rushed. It had such promise. The author really just needed to slow down. 140 pages is just not enough for this kind of story-line. And there was entirely too much drama in the end. From a professional medical standpoint the things she threw in there were impossible. I was screaming at my nook while reading this.

The dialogue was unrealistic. The sex wasn't that fabulous either. Um duh unprotected sex is gonna cause babies and don't be surprised. And wtf he just dumped his fiance in one sentence? I can't even.. I just can't.

SPOILERS

Okay this book is extremely terrible. Every character was flat and made crazy, impulsive decisions every five seconds! I think Lily changed her mind about wanting to be with Drake at least fifty times. You know what else happened at least fifty times? Unprotected sex. And it is a wonder Lily got pregnant.

Most of the dialogue is fairly ridiculous. Take the moment when Drake gives Lily a star necklace and she responds with, "A star? It's cute and pretty. I didn't know you liked them..." (Yes, because it's not every day you find someone who likes stars) And Drake responds with, "I'm not much of a star person, but I thought it'd be something to remember me by." We'll, I'm glad we now know Drake isn't much of a star person. That must explain his propensity to be a maniacal asshole with a strange obsession to "claim" Lily.

I guess my main problem was that everything happened so fast. Don't get me wrong, if this book was any longer I think I would have ripped my hair out, but a baby, a breakup, a car accident, a miscarriage, and then a marriage should never happen in rapid succession with no build-up. Ironically, the lack of build-up is the only thing that allowed me to finish this book.

And lastly, Lily thought to herself, "I weave myself nicely on a nice shit pile, don't I?" Yes Lily, you really do and that's why this book was a disaster.

One star? Yep that's all I could do. I didn't even want to finish it but I forced myself to do it. The story escalated too quickly. I think if tweaked this could be a great story. There wasn't enough of a foundation set with the characters and story. Things happened waaaay to fast. The dialogue really killed it for me. Too stuffy, not believable.

I have a love/hate relationship with this author. Her books have so much promise I devour them. But I often get to the end and I feel like it’s not quite right. Like something’s off, something’s missing. It wasn’t exactly what was promised.

Like the time we picked up a pepperoni pizza from this cool hipster shop in Tower Grove in St Louis. It looked delicious. Smelled divine. Did. Not. Taste. Right. Like WTF was that shit. Went back the next day to complain. Yeah. Vegan pizzeria. Don’t know how we missed that shit walking in the first time. Fucking tourists.

Lily Alexander and Drake Tatum grew up together. Even from their young age, you could see the connection they had with each other. One day, after witnessing Drake's cousin get married, they pretend to "get married" to each other and vow their love. Little did they know, that's the day they truly bind themselves together.

"That's not what I said, Lil! Now you just ruined it!"

I giggle again. "Drake! Just stop it. Aren't you supposed to kiss me now?" He suddenly looked nervous. "I guess," he murmurs.

When I see his face closing in on mine, I close my eyes and wait for the kiss. I catch my breath as his lips touch mine. It's short and sweet, but it seals my fate; I will forever be Drake's girl."

description

Years later, Lily is at Drake's and her's families' usual vacation destination, Playa del Carmen, Mexico; only this time, it's without her late father, and her mother who went to Paris for a month. So it's just her, Drake, and his parents.

When Drake went to college, his relationship with Lily just sort of dwindled away. They no longer have the comfortable nature with each other. But Lily, well, she still loves him. But Drake wants nothing to do with Lily.

description

But when Lily ends up at a beach party with a guy she's decided she's going to give her innocence to, (due to the fact that she's tired of waiting for Drake) Drake intercepts. And well, he ends up leaving Mexico that night, without Lily. But he doesn't leave alone. He left with her virginity, while Lily is left with a scar.

"Drake shows me the world that night as he takes me underneath the stars on the patio bed."

"Yes, Drake Tatum irrevocably broke my heart and I will never, ever forget it."

Fast forward eight years and Lily and Drake still haven't spoken to each other since that fateful night during their vacation. But that's about to change, because their mothers have devised a plan to get Lily to work as Drake's assistant, and maybe flirt with him a little bit so he won't marry his infamous girlfriend, Shannon.

Turns out Lily doesn't have to try too hard to break Drake and Shannon up because Drake is in love with Lily. But Lily is still so hurt and she doesn't trust him. She's also seeing Jared, a guy that is really good for her.

"Does he think that since he’s ready for me that I’ll just happily oblige and let him back in? He can think again."

After all of their mistakes and mistreatments, will their childhood wedding mean anything? Or was it just that; a thing of their childhood, and now it's too late?

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

2nd chance love stories are interesting to me. I found this one to be too fast-paced. Not even sure if that's the right word. Things just happened too quickly without any substance.

The steam scenes were REALLY steamy, however. I really enjoyed Drake's possessiveness and dominance.

I hoped the author would've played off of the whole Reese's Peanut Buttercups thing. I think it would've been cute.

I thought this was going to be a dual POV. Highly disappointed when it turned out to be only one chapter.

It was overall an entertaining read. The steam factor was a 4. Execution of the plot and story was a 3. Given more tweaks I think this could've been a 5 star book.

I'm a little on the fence about this read. I loved a lot of it, but absolutely hated others. Despite my seesaw emotions I couldn't stop reading it.

Summary:
Lily and Drake grew up together, and despite the two year age difference, they became very close and even fell in love. Lily takes a trip with Drake's family shortly after her 18th birthday (and almost a year after her dad's passing), and having decided that she must move past her love of Drake, proceeds to do just that by going on a date with the intention of losing her virginity. Drake doesn't want any other man touching her, let alone taking her innocence. He drags her home, and sick of fighting his desires, agrees to give them both what they want. Their joining is mind blowing, and Drake realizes that he is just as in love with Lily as she is with him. He panics, thinking the two families will expect marriage and commitment if he has Lily (something at the tender age of 20 he not ready for), so he takes off back to the states. Eight long years go by and Lily successfully avoids Drake until his mom asks her a favor. Lily agrees to work for Drake despite their differences as a favor to his parents and nothing more. Drake realizes almost immediately that his feelings of love for Lily have never gone away, and now he is ready for the responsibility a relationship with her would bring. Therefore he sets out to win her. Lily cant deny that her body craves him, her heart never truly let him go, but her mind refuses to put her out there to be crushed again. Starting a physical relationship sets them on the path of rediscovering each other while dealing with the obstacle that arise including a bat-shit crazy ex-fiance, an amorous suitor, meddling parents, and the painful past they both share. Drake and Lily must learn to trust in their hearts and each other or risk losing the loves of their lives forever.

Like I said, parts were amazing, but a lot was wrong. Spelling and grammar in the book was poorly edited. I can look past that, but some of the cheesy lines made absolutely no sense. At times I found myself smirking because I couldn't imagine a leading alpha-male like Drake saying things like that or laughing outright at metaphors that were not in the least romantic for me. Alas, it was still an okay read. I liked the story line, and wished the epilogue gave us a bit more detail. I'd like to know how Lily and Masie's business fared, how Masie and Nick's relationship progressed, and whatever happened to the sweet doctor Jared. Maybe if this author gives a little of that, I would take the chance and buy another of her books. <3

Overall, this was an entertaining story.

Drake was an epic asshole. Frequently. Kudos to Lily for being able to love the jerk, 'cause I'm pretty sure I would have pushed him off a balcony rather than kiss him. That said, when he wasn't being a jerk, he could be sweet and sexy, but there just wasn't quite enough groveling after his fuck ups for my taste.

There was lots of angst and drama, most of which was fun.

However, and this is a big however, there is something about some of the word choices, and turns of phrases that Pamela Ann uses that just give me flashbacks to the Princess Bride movie

I know this about this author. I've felt the same way about all her books. It's just her style, and it seems to work for a lot of people. Just not me. I wish it did, because she sure can come up with some interesting plot lines.

I was mesmerized by the cover. "Look in to my sexy eyes and read my book!" I made it about 20-25%.

Well that was short lived. I was hoping for his POV, hoping to hear some redeeming thoughts about why he is such a douche (protecting her? Wants her but has a life threatening disease and thinks it would be unfair to waste her time? Is planning to go into priesthood so he can't act on his love for her? C'mon give me something, cuz otherwise I'm sooooo not into this guy which means I'm sooooo not into this book). Finally it comes. In the form of a flash back from when they're 18. The more I read from his POV the more I find myself frowning incredulously! Nope.. Nothing redeeming! In fact, he gets DOUCHIER! (What? That's a word. Look it up, it has his pic next to the definition). I'm pretty sure this is not one I'm going to finish. (In the unlikely event that I need a dose of douche, maybe I'll pick it back up. If I'm starting to let fairy tale cool guys take over my brain and make me sappy. This can bring me back to douche reality),

DNFI'm usually not one to give a negative review. Mostly, because I know how much time and effort it takes to write a book. But I do know a good book when I see one and this just wasn't it.

The main characters Lily and Drake were to say the least, annoying. Lily was all over the place with her feelings and at times, I felt as though she was a 15 year old girl instead of a 25 year old woman. Drake was ALPA but not in a good-swoon-worthy way.

After going eight years without seeing each other, Drake immediately expects Lily to be his again. The story didn't flow and the secondary characters were non-existent. It was completely ALL about Lily and Drake and the sex (and there was a lot) didn't fit well into the story either. It was at times corny and I found myself rolling my eyes...a lot. I wish I had better things to say about this story and I wish I could be more positive but I feel as though if I'm not honest in my review then it's not being fair to the reader or myself.

Strongly erotic book about lovers who were destined to be together, but do to own stubbornness and grudges, fight it.

Whenever the characters are brought together, one of them holds off moving to the next step. Their touch-and-go relationship spans their whole lives, from the time they were kids and pretended to marry each other pre-double digit years.

There is a lot of tension, grovelling, ex-lover's drama, and mistakes made again and again. Add to that the fears of sickness and death that life throws you at the most unexpected times, and you have a book you will NOT be able to put down.

Lily is 10 and Drake is 12.

“I, Drake Tatum, take Lily Alexander forever and a day. I promise to give her flowers and kisses forever and ever until I die.” I giggle when Drake mentions kisses. “It’s your turn now, Lil. Just follow what I said.”

LILY'S VOICE:

Lily is 18 and Drake is 20

Everything about him is completely masculine, truly sexy. And that hot, handsome face, where do I begin with that? I want him so bad, but he never notices me that way. I guess I’m not pretty or sexy enough for him.

Well, Drake does see her and "agrees" to take Lily's virginity!
And then...

Drake Tatum used to be the center of my universe. He was my first love and the first man I ever made love to… as well as the very same man who walked away like I was diseased the very day after he took my virginity.
Drake shows me the world that night as he takes me underneath the stars on the patio bed.
The next day I realize that world has two sides. One world of ceaseless ecstasy and one full of crumbled, guttered and wretched pain from having your love thrown back at you.

DRAKE'S VOICE:

8 years later....

Drake comes to his senses, after dating eons of ladies, that is.
And then...

“If you want me to give up, it won’t happen. Even if you wish it hard enough to happen, Lil, because I haven’t been this sure of anything in my life—and I want you in it. In you, with you, day in and day out. That’s all I know and if you ask me to see reason, I am seeing it. You are my reason. It took me eight years to see it, but now that I have. I am taking action.” He halts and makes sure I stare at him, understanding him with full certainty, before he speaks again. “Run if you must, Lily. I will catch you, either way. Do not doubt that.”

"My fate was sealed the moment you were born into this world. You were mine since day one. You were definitely mine when I took your virginity. Do you honestly think that I would let you give your virginity away to any man? No, over my dead body, and you know it, too. You were mine then, and you are mine now."

"You will come to me. I am sure of it. Once you do, don’t expect me to let you go again because I won’t and don’t ever plan to. I’m counting down the hours until you come to me."

“I love you. It’s always been you.”

Well... The story doesn't end here. It is just the beginning. Stop reading the review. Read the book.

Plot : Very good. Though written through different ages, it is very much comprehensible. Love in childhood is beautiful. The baby part was aweful and not at all necessary.
4 stars.

Characters: Characterisation was beautiful and supportive. I could picture each one of them easily except for Hugh Tatum. He was missed. Otherwise I loved everyone especially, Patricia Tatum.
Hmm... 4.5 stars.

Wordings: It was good. A little plain at times, but the story and certain brilliantly written dialogues made up for it.
3.5 stars.

Climax : It was beautiful and sad. After the epilogue, it seemed as though we are seeing the last of Lily and Drake. But, SURPRISE, SUPRISE!! We have another book!! I am already reading it. Where's the coffee and rain?

4 stars.

Verdict: Overall, This book has everything in it in equal amounts, alpha male, thoughtful female lead, childhood love, cavemanish love, beautiful & loving mother, an awesome cupid as god mother and would-be mother-in-law, and completely CRAZY LOVE.
Loved the book. Worth one read.

Overall 4 unmistakable stars.

Have a Happy day with books.

Haha well this was so absurd I don't even know where to start. It's one of those stories that make you cringe, go "really?" and roll eyes a couple of times, but overall it still came out quite charming.

At least first 1/3 wasn't so bad.

Issues I had:

Well that's about it, I think this book really had potential, but it was sooo rushed and unexplored.

Drake and Lily. The ending was so unrealistic it took me right out of the story. And I have a surprisingly resilient ability of 'suspension of disbelief'!
Childhood friends, Drake drops Lily's friendship and her blossoming love after he takes her virginity at 18. He goes on to be the man-ho extraordinaire on the other side of the continent for the next 8 years. Their moms connive to bring them together again when news comes that he plans to marry a manipulative gold digger. The story moves pretty quickly and you aren't stuck in the OW's company for too long. Lily isn't a doormat. I think if it didn't get beyond ridiculous in the end, I would have quite enjoyed it. This book is a BIG improvement on "Falling for My Husband" which should have been called "Falling for the Douche Bag self-centered Loser coward". Look forward to see what new stories the author comes out with next... but not this series I think.
The Audio reader, Lucy Malone, sucked. She made Drake sound like a girl with a head cold.

When I heard Pamela was doing as stand alone, I was kind of shocked. All of her novels, that I have had the pleasure to read have been made into a series. I was pleasantly surprised at this novel and was blessedly given a chance to read it prior to editing. It was just as great as it was then. I really loved the conflict between Drake and Lily. If I'm being completely honest, I would of loved to see her make him beg a little bit more. But that's just because I'm purely evil.

Overall the novel is a wonderful tale about childhood love, growing into teenage love and then adulthood love. It had it's tragic times when Lily and Drake fell apart after their teenage years together. I laughed and cried throughout the novel and was so impressed by it.

Pamela Ann has amazing talent and writing ability. She turns what should be an average novel into a movie with color. It is always beautiful and I can't help but dramatically sigh and then be giddy as heck when I read her novels.

I like how Drake loved Lily and how he wanted to keep her from hooking up with another man. I feel bad that they went to having sex when they were angry at each other. I feel bad for Jared when Lily goes out with him and then gets home and Drake is outside and incredibly mad. I hate how Drake gets in an accident and is hurt. I like that Lily stays there with him 24/7. I feel bad that they lost their baby.

Yes no doubt I do love Drake. Yes I was confused for a short lapse In time but I quickly realized I love him. Doesn't mean that I was not angry with him because I was. He needed to suffer a little but poor Lil she had to suffer too much but she sure was a feisty one. I absolutely cheered her on when Shannon thought she was going to get rid of her.

Toward the end I was going crazy, they were up and down and killing me. I know Lil was scared and I know that Drake loved her but they seemed to not be able to figure it out. They knew they loved each other and always have but the past kept getting in the way. I was beyond excited when they let down their Barriers and decided to let go and feel.

I,was so not expecting the twist and turns. They had me going all kinds of crazy. I had to see what was happening next. Then I thought oh crap!!!! This isn't going to end well. I was begging and pleading for my iPad to make it better.

The sex well....

I started this book thinking it would be very interesting because of how it starts out. You have Lily being young and in love with Drake so she gives him her virginity, but things do not go well for Lily afterwards because Drake breaks her heart. Eight years later they are thrown back together, and Lily is determined not to let Drake fool her again.

Lily is the main reason I thought this book was okay. She is very stubborn, strong willed, and doesn't take bull crap. I enjoyed her character a lot. She was always standing up for her heart, and she didn't want to heart anyone in the process either.

Drake was a very possessive alpha male who realizes he's made several mistakes with Lily and wants to change that. So he does everything he can to get her back, but he also keeps making mistakes along the way.

Drake does have a fiance when he and Lily are thrown back together again, but he quickly gets rid of her. Even though she makes another appearance later on in the book, I really thought the fact that he was engaged had no effect on the book at all. It seemed really dumb that he was engaged to begin with because it didn't bring much to the story at all, and then the one part where it could have brought more drama to the story it didn't really lead any where. So this makes me dislike the book some because it was just really stupid in my opinion to have this other women in the book.

Towards the end it gets a little sad, and the actually ending is nice. I very much liked the epilogue. And I did like the fact that there were a few parts in Drake's point of view. Overall I would say the book was just okay, nothing great about it, and nothing really bad about it either.

I really enjoyed this book! It is a great story of love lost and the possibility of forgiveness and second chances.

The storyline was really great. At times it felt a little rushed but I liked that by the end everything felt right where is should have been.

Lily has been in love with Drake since she was a kid. There parents are great friends and want them to be together. But once a little time goes by and they get older Drake realizes he doesn't want a commitment. Once Lily and Drake go to Mexico with his family when she is 18 she is looking to loose her virginity. Drake swoops in and takes and then leaves without another word.

Lily then decides she has to let it go though it is really hard and takes time. This book takes place 8 years later when Drake is engaged and his mom hired Lily to be his assistance because she doesn't want Drake with the new gold digger in his life. The book takes off from there and I really enjoyed the read.

What I also REALLY LOVED was that characters from Scornfully Yours make an appearance in this book. I loved that!!!!!

Youthful heartaches often scar the deepest and that is the case for Lily. Unemployed and sexless for over a year, Lily is coaxed into working as a personal assistant for her first(and as much as she denies it her only) love by both his and her own mother.

Determined not to rehash old memories Lily makes it very clear that work is all she has on her mind...but that soon changes...in a big way.

Facing many obstacles; the ever charming Drake, his Psycho ex, breaking hearts of prospective beaus and a couple of other heartbreaking moments...can Lily open her heart to true love? or is it too late?

Look out for a tie in to Ms Ann's previous book..a tumultuous story that you will want to read beginning to end non stop...warning tissues required! A story that won't disappoint!

Drake is a douchebag. He claims her virginity years ago - okay so she practically begged for it. But it doesn't excuse him Repeat after me: Douchebag.

The conflict stated in the blurb is pretty much resolved early on. What we get is further conflict one on top of the other. The final ones were a bit too much drama for me.

At the end of the day, I thought the epilogue was sweet.
