Two book set in shrink wrap. Bad A for Amazing B for buoyant, C for charming. Bad kitty takes us on a mad and manic joyride through the alphabet. And if once is not enough just watch out. D for delightful Poor Bad Kitty won't play with him, Poor Puppy has to amuse himself with an alphabetical list of toys and dreams of playing in an alphabetical list of countries.

Does that make her a bad Kitty? Or does that just mean you need to show her how much fun she's missing?
Puppy wants to play even if Kitty doesn't want to. In this counting/alphabet book we follow Puppy on his journey through the house in search of things to play with. Along the way he finds uber tons of toys under the couch. Nice fuzzy toys with bells and mouse tails on them. This has perked Kitty's interest.
After a full day of play, Puppy needs a nap. Puppy dreams of all the places and games he would like to play with Kitty. And when he wakes up... Kitty is still there. Hooray! Does that mean Kitty wants to play?
Greta's Thoughts In the words of the great Poe: "AGAIN AGAIN!"
What? Were you thinking Edgar Allen?
This book was great! So vivid and creative! I love how simple minded Puppy is. He really does remind me of a dog. Of course not as superior as Bad Kitty.... but still... great!
If your little one is Team Cat or Team Dog it doesn't matter. This book will have them in stitches as Poor Puppy entertains himself while Bad Kitty teaches us what curiosity does to cats.
A great bedtime book and as for me... An extra entertaining read while eating breakfast :)
Puppy, who was introduced at the very end of Bad Kitty, Nick Bruel's debut book about his badly behaved feline heroine, returns in this second picture-book, eager to play with his best friend. When Bad Kitty refuses to play with him, Puppy engages in a 1-26, A-Z list of activities, with his elusive feline companion (unbeknownst to him) keeping an eye on him. Then Puppy takes a nap, and dreams of another A-Z range of fun things he and Kitty could do together in various countries around the world. When he wakes up, he is delighted to discover that Bad Kitty is ready to play! Or is she...?
Like its predecessor, Poor Puppy and Bad Kitty is an alphabet book which features an amusing story, in this case that of a playful puppy who dreams of a companion who will join him in all of his fun activities. Nick Bruel adds counting and geography elements in this second picture-book, as Puppy's first A-Z sequence also features numbers, while his second one features countries, making this a title that addresses multiple early-learning concepts. Although I rated this one three stars, mostly because I have seen how well children take to the Bad Kitty books, and appreciate both the humor and the creative mixture of story and concept displayed here, I cannot honestly say that I found it that entertaining. The artwork isn't really to my taste - it feels a little flat to me - and overall the book felt a little too busy. Still, tastes vary, and as mentioned above, I have seen many children really take to the Bad Kitty books, so parents in the market for concept books might want to give this one a try, especially if their youngster enjoys silly humor.
Poor Puppy by Nick Bruel is the sequel to Bad Kitty. The puppy has arrived and Bad Kitty doesn't approve.
While the kitty is thinking of ways to torture the puppy, the puppy is working his way through any number of things to play with. But he really wants to play with the kitty and he dreams of an A to Z world tour of places to see and things to do.
As other reviewers have noted, the alphabetical lists aren't as off the wall in Poor Puppy as they are in Bad Kitty but it's still a fun way to lean the alphabet, learn how to count and to learn world geography.
My son and daughter like the book for the sibling rivalry. While they get along most of the time, they have their moments. Kitty does eventually learn to live with and perhaps love Puppy and Poor Puppy shows his over the top process of adjusting to the new family member.
My daughter is a huge Bad Kitty fan!! So when she saw Poor puppy @library she had to check it out. She liked it very much but I personally thought is was lacking substance that Bad Kitty books always offered. Clearly I'm not the audience here. Poor Dad!!
Less lists crammed into this one. Puppy wants to play with Kitty, but Kitty doesn't want to play with Puppy. So Puppy plays with a numbered and alphabetized list of toys. Then Puppy takes a nap and dreams of playing an alphabetical list of games in an alphabetical list of places.
Nick Bruel manages to mash up a counting book, an alphabet book, and an alliterative geography lesson into one light and amusing picture book. The dog and cat friction was so fun I didn't even mind the dream sequence.
Author Nick Bruel of the Bad Kitty series has created a book for Poor Puppy! This ABC/counting book is full of counting and ABC's as puppy finds something to do by himself. Poor puppy want's to play with kitty but since kitty isn't in the mood to play, puppy finds all the fun toys to play with by himself as he waits for kitty. Puppy wears himself out after all the playing so he decides to take a nap. During this nap, he dreams of kitty and all the places they could go A-Z around the world! When Puppy wakes up from his nap, kitty is ready to play and puppy couldn't be more excited! This would be a great ABC book for children who are strengthening their memory of the alphabet while also getting to enjoy a fun book!
This is so cute! I love that it's an alphabet book (x2) but also does numbers and places. How fun! Plus I love when Puppy is sleeping and Kitty is trying to take back her toy.
This mostly gets a star off because this paperback copy from the free library is HEAVILY used, and I feel like it really deserves to be a hardcover to withstand at least SOME handling by younger readers.
Otherwise, it's a cute story about a puppy and his best friend Kitty (who does not reciprocate the sentiment), and how Puppy "has" to play with other toys (in increasing quantities, to teach counting), then takes a nap to dream about playing games in different places (in alphabetical order, and without regard to feasibility, like "Ice hockey in India").
Recommended... as a hardcover, haha. For young fans of Bad Kitty!
Nick Bruel, creator of Bad Kitty, returns with the exact opposite/perfect complement to the worst behaving feline in recent years. Poor Puppy wants to play with Bad Kitty, but BK won't have none-a-that. So PP dreams of the 26 toys he likes to play with, each toy based on the 26 letters of our ABCs. Then he dreams of him and BK doing fun things, all in different countries around the world, all based on the ABCs. When he wakes up PDQ, will he share R 'n' R with BK, or is this idea KIA? So U C where we're heading? Now that we know for sure our ABCs... won't you please read about Poor Puppy? It's a cute sequel to Bad Kitty, and the saga is just warming up. Four stars Poor Puppy is richer than you think!!!
In this picture book that combines counting, letters of the alphabet, and even some geography, Poor Puppy is sad because his kitty friend doesn't want to play. So he amuses himself with 1 airplane, 2 balls, 3 cars, 4 dolls... and a whole lot of other toys. Tired out from all that playing, he falls asleep and dreams of an alliterative world tour, where he tries apple bobbing in Antarctica, baseball in Brazil, checkers in Canada.... You get the idea. The cute, colorful pictures are filled with fun details toddlers will enjoy picking out.
We love Bad Kitty and have read many of her books. We found this book at a garage sale and were surprised that we never heard of this title, "Poor Puppy!" This book reminded me a great deal of the original "Bad Kitty." This book did not fail to impress my children. My son loved stopping and counting the items in the pictures to make sure the correct amount was drawn. We also talked a bit about many of the pictures. Enjoyable bedtime book!
Still some funny moments, students will love watching Bad Kitty get upset that Poor Puppy kept his old mouse toy Great counting book to match the alphabet of fun things the puppy does while kitty won’t play with him The Alphabet through countries is a lot of the age of children reading AbC books, but it does expose children to locations around the world
I am a long time fan of Bad Kitty. And this was a perfect excuse to revisit Poor Puppy. I swear I am raising poor puppy right now. With all the things he plays with and all the dreams he has of going places. This book is fun, colorful, and a tongue twisting hayride of a fun story. More Please.
Strong repetition to teach to ABCs and 123s. Cute story about how Poor Puppy want to play with Kitty, but Kitty doesn't want to play. Poor puppy goes through all his toys and then through his dream activities. A little long since it covers letters and numbers individually, but still cute.
My son and i loved the story, but i was a little disappointed because the name of the book is poor puppy and bad kitty, but the book is about the puppy wanting to play with the cat but cat dose not want to play...
This book is set up so well for practicing words and reading. The font is very big and straight to the point. It shows good and bad behavior. It also introduces letters and numbers. This is a very helpful starter book.
I know everyone else likes that it was an alphabet book , a counting book and a geography book but that turned me off. I wish it did not count as high but had some action in between the numbers... it was boring for me to read.
Cute! Poor puppy wants to play, but cat doesn't. So he plays by himself... first counting toys and then dreaming of playing (ABCs and countries). Neat!
Fun book with lots of visuals that go through the alphabet and numbers 1 to 26. A puppy really wants to play with kitty, but kitty does not want to, so instead the puppy dreams about it.
The story about Puppy takes center as we learn how much puppy wants to play with kitty, and what games are dreamed of, after we learn about the many alphabetical, and numerical toys puppy has.
