Gelzer's Caesar, first published in 1921, still stands as a fundamental study of the Roman dictator, due mainly to its objectivity and vast use of sources. The book develops the image of Caesar against the background of the political structures of the late Roman Republic and thus forms a prime example of the interaction between biography and structural analysis. This volume presents a revised and expanded edition of this classical text. I have at least two copies of this from Von's. When I sold used-books at Amazon, this was very popular at AFO/APO addresses. No surprise at all why. We all should re-read this from time to time.
