Do you ever feel like certain behaviors have more sway over you than you would like? Are you often distracted and find it difficult to focus on important tasks for more than a few minutes? Do you find yourself mindlessly scrolling through social media or reaching for a sugary snack whenever you're bored or feeling down?Even though the challenges of today's fast-paced world can impact your life in myriad ways, one thing is you are not alone! In fact, in an era of unparalleled wealth, freedom, technological advancement, and medical innovation, depression and anxiety rates are skyrocketing. But why are so many of us unhappier than ever?
The last few decades have seen tremendous change in the world, but when compared to the course of evolution, the vast technological advancements are but a blink of an eye. The problem is, our brains didn't get the memo. Even if it is hard to imagine, our path as a species up to this point has been anything but a walk in the park—which is why our brain is designed to work in survival mode. Why? Well, without our ability to deal with adverse circumstances, we would never have made it this far. So, what if I told you that one of the molecules that has ensured our existence up to this point is becoming increasingly problematic since it was never intended to be exposed to the constant stimuli and instant gratification of our needs?

This is a seriously important book that everyone should read. I removed one star because I found that some of the explanations of the scientific concepts for how the brain works was a bit lacking granted that the author does not have a background in neuroscience, but this did not deter me from continuing and finishing the book.
The book encourages some serious self-reflection regarding whether our current actions and habits align with our long-term goals. It invites us to take off our rose-colored glasses and truly determine whether we are living and behaving according to our priorities.
I thank the author for writing such a meaningful book that made me question a lot of my everyday life habits, in the best way possible.
In today’s busy stressful world with so many things pulling for peoples’ attention, I don’t know anyone who couldn’t benefit from this book. This is an important read for anyone who wants to thrive and live life to the fullest. I like how the author used his own and other stories/studies to illustrate and drive home ideas. Some of the studies were fascinating and eye opening. Thanks to the author for being brave enough to share his story and offer hope that’s very needed.
i’m sorry, but after the third huberman quote i could’ve just put this away. this is neither scientific enough to be really informative, nor is it structured to give a helpful guide on how to tackle “dopamine addiction”. the last chapters consist of semi-spiritual coaching style life advice that has nothing to do with the topic (or just is isn’t integrated well enough) and on the last few pages one of the principles is outright repeated. no thanks
Excellent, Applicable, Well-Researched Info and Advice
I really enjoyed this overview of productivity, balance, and satisfaction in life. There is just enough neuroscience to elevate this above the usual “advice” books…and enough stories to keep interest high. Highly recommend this!
Had to plow through the first ~50 pages but after that it was an easy and enjoyable read. The author breaks down how our human brain hasn’t adapted for the modern world, with social media and fast food, we have endless distractions and indulgences. The stories, analogies and data provided are a huge part of what made this book so good. Also the author absolutely loves the word precocious.
Enjoyed it very much, those of us who are in the grid need to read this book, the only way to survive the grid life. I like the fact that author mentions Dr. Huberman in his book and quotes him few times, great read.
This book really changed the way I thought about addiction and gave me some tools and excersises to explore in order to lead a more balanced life. I'd reccomend this to anyone to be honest!
While there are probably better "science" books on the brain, I loved this book because it is direct and to the point. Understanding how dopamine works is critical to forming good habits and behaviors.
