An indispensable bible of information and practical advice on beekeeping Get Started in Beekeeping covers everything from bee behavior to what to do with honey. It balances all the background context on bee biology with the day-to-day and seasonal practicalities of running hives in any location, in the country or the city, and for colonies of all sizes.
This book was pretty thorough but lacked pictures which made it confusing for the beginning beekeeper. There were some chapters that I had to skim because I had no idea how the hive went together or how much extra room to provide the bees before they try to swarm. I also picked up Beekeeping for Dummies and they have a lot of pictures to go with the explanations. It's already making sense after reading this book. My only other complaint is this book was intended for readers in Europe so they specifically talk about the weather and how it affects the bees, temperature in celcius and bees that are local to the area. Other than that, it was a good read.
Since this book was written mainly for UK beekeeping, I didnt get much from it. Poorly edited, in my opinion. I really struggled to keep momentum reading this. Not something I would recommend to new keepers.
