Values are not created in a vacuum. Neither are they fixed and unchanging. To stabilize the hierarchy of values in a person or in a society, the highest values must be sought. Enforcement in turn depends on each individual, and on other people, the critical mass of people, the authenticity of their grit and the goodness in their hearts. This article was written for a book being published in commemoration of the centennial of a great educational institution and the 85th anniversary of a values-oriented fraternity.
