Emma is a talented young artist disturbed by nightmare images that she can only quiet by painting. These haunting visions become inspiration for collections, so Emma turns these troubles into a burgeoning career. When Emma's boyfriend threatens her artwork, he winds up in the emergency room and she meets a new man as troubled by his history as she is by hers. He completes another dreaming image, one that both frightens and attracts her.Emma must choose whether to confront the sum of their combined darkness, forging an intimate connection, or remain isolated, living in a half-awake world, denying the truth of her past and, thus, the promise of her future. But does this new man manifest a dream or a nightmare?
Nice book with lots of colourful and weird characters. At about 10% of the book I came across something. It is the opinion of one of the characters on the paintings of Emma, the main character, and it says exactly what I think about this book. It was "imaginative and silly, but so eloquent, packed with a breathtaking vocabulary of experience and (...) nuance.". I kept having doubts about giving it 3 or 4 stars. So 3,5 stars it is from me.
This book was so-so for me. Just did not total work 100%. It was well written, but at time just too much on and on description. That being said I would be open to reading something else by this author and see if I enjoyed it better.
