Have you ever wondered where fish go when the ponds and lakes freeze in the wintertime? Or what makes the sound you hear when you put your ear to a seashell? Or why snakes shed their skins? Now you can find out the answers to these questions and many others in this beautiful book of fanciful and fact-filled poems that explain some of nature's greatest mysteries.
Science Literature Poem/Rhyming Grade 2-3 Topic: Mysteries of Nature
Awesome book with rhyming poems. Use the book to teach the stories/mysteries about the world. Read a couple different stories each day. The teacher could start the lesson by asking questions to the students about why things happen, like Why do onions make us cry? Have the students brain storm and make a chart. Then read the poem to them and see if any of the guesses were right.
I love this book because I think it's a great introduction to poetry for students. In each poem there is an explanation for something that occurs in nature. SO for example, "How do Cats Purr?" is a poem that explains where the purring sound comes from that cats make. The poems are easy to understand and fun for kids. I own this book and will definitely be using it in my classroom to introduce poetry.
Summary: This is a great science book that answers questions students may have about the world. The best thing about this book is that is answers all the questions qith amazing pictures and in poerty form. Response: This poetry book would be great to start a science unit with. I loved this book!
This is a fun collection of rhyming poems that teach about scientific concepts and nature. The book answers numerous questions and I must admit that we all learned something!
The poems are short and fun to read aloud and the illustrations are colorful and cartoonish. We really enjoyed reading this book together.
This is a great nonfiction children's book that teaches all kind of things like what makes the "man in the moon", to how popcorn pops, to why listening to a seashell sounds like the ocean, etc. The kids loved discussing this stuff and it was very educational.
I thought this was a very good book on mysteries that kids wonder about. Where do fish go in the winter? Why do I hear the sea in a shell when I put it up to my ear? Why does popcorn pop? Told in rhyming poetry, it's simplistic enough for kids to understand.
