I will have to admit that it has been a while since I have added any Paper Tiger titles to my collection - now I appreciate that this is technically a Dragons Dream book from 1978, however this publisher was folded in to the Paper Tiger stable along the way so in my eyes it counts.

Patrick Woodroffe is one of those artists that I think epitomize everything I love about Paper Tiger books (and no I do not mean the questionable bindings which seem at any moment to want to self destruct). But rather beautiful images while an almost whimsical note to them. from Rodney Matthews to Ian Miller and onward to Tim White and Jim Burns you have here is a book that just delights in the beauty of the artist work.

This is a book that has no real purpose and I think is all the better for it. The artwork is amazing even after all these years and the story is a fun little interlude that makes little (or tries to) sense of the what is going on.

This is a really beautifully illustrated, and imaginatively thought of story. It’s so sweet and has such an innocent, simple plot, filled with strange and wonderful characters and creatures. I grew up with this wonderful book being read to me by my dad. It’s sad to me that I’ve only just now realised, one day my father read this to me, and it was the last time he did. I hope to read it to my children one day so that they can love it as much as I do.
