"He shoots! He scores!" SpongeBob amazes a hockey scout with his skills as he sweeps the Krusty Krab. Soon SpongeBob is playing professional hockey! But when it's time to play, he starts having second thoughts. Does SpongeBob really have what it takes to be a hockey superstar?
This was a much longer book that a reading level 2 and about the same difficulty rating. And my 5 yr old really enjoyed the story. I was bored out of my mind, but it was excellent practice and even though it was long, because the story was good, it kept my son's attention. Great book!
My boys that love SpongeBob really good so they enjoyed this book, and as special needs boys they can't read on their own. As I was reading it this one I enjoyed as it wasn't nearly has hyper as the other books (or the cartoon). And even though my youngest son says that Plankton never gets to win in the cartoon I thought it was nice that the writer allowed him to 'win' at the end of this book. All characters getting along but competing throughout the book a good example to show children that they can still compete against friends and stay friends with them.
SpongeBob's Slap Shot is about SpongeBob's adventure when he is enlisted to play for his rival, Plankton's hockey team. While quite simplistic, the book sets a mood where you cannot help but root for SpongeBob's success against his friend, Sandy Cheeks, and her hockey team. This book can be used in the class to show kids that sometimes, setting aside their rivalries with one another can help achieve a common goal.
Many kids love SpongeBob and this is a cute and fun hockey story that those kids will enjoy to read or have read to them. This is not an early reader book though so younger kids will have a difficult time reading this on their own so I suggest reading it together as a family.
2015 Book Challenge - A Book Based On Or Turned Into A TV Show
This book wasn't at all academic, but I enjoyed it. Children who have an interest in Spongebob would definitely like this book. Overall, it's just a nice little story about hockey and friendly competition.
I don't get SpongeBob's appeal. This was just a poorly written picture book, most books with cartoon characters are. My kid likes hockey so his review of this book would have more stars.
