Welcome to Willowdale, North Carolina, a small town where the folks are friendly, the romances are as sweet as the tea, and the biddies at the diner gobble up gossip like it's peach cobbler. This may be their biggest scoop ever.

When sexy Hollywood bad-boy Teague "T-Rex" Reynolds comes to this quiet Southern town, he needs a fake girlfriend to hide the secret that brought him there. School nurse Kate Riley takes the job, but she won't fall for a movie star, no ma'am. That's fine with Teague. He hung a closed sign on his heart years ago.

Convincing the press they're in love is one thing. Fooling each other they're not is getting harder each day. Despite scandal, heartache, and misunderstandings galore, they might just find the sweet thrill of true love. Book one of The Willowdale Romances.

This is a decent, well-written romance. Not earth shaking but it held my attention and the characters are likeable enough. About what I expected after reading her short stories.

I'm in the middle of the road on this one. I really enjoyed the book but there were a couple of things about it that REALLY bothered me. Let me see if I can figure this out...

Ok, so I liked the heroine, Kate, well enough. She's in a small town in North Carolina, just trying to keep things together. Her mom died and she's left with her no-so-helpful stepdad and her hormonal stepsister, Dina. Dina is hormonal because she's pregnant but won't tell anyone who the father is. Drama Mama!! Although when we first see Kate and Dina together, they don't look like they get along but as the book progresses, I really liked how they are together. Anyway, the reason I liked Kate is one of the reasons that I liked the relationship between Kate and Dina: everybody depends on Kate without knowing that they depend on Kate. Kate's trying to keep the household afloat and keep them from losing the house altogether and she's doing everything she can to help their family, not just with money but also with moral support, especially for Dina. She has a lot on her shoulders and pretty much asked for none of it. So I really felt for her. Then, when things aren't looking so good, something... someone comes along and throws a monkeywrench into all of it!

That monkeywrench is named Teague. He's an up and coming movie star who is about to hit the big time. But he has this little tiny secret that could possibly end his whole career. That secret is the reason for Teague's visit to Kate's hometown. But when he's spotted by some paparazzi, he has to ask Kate to rescue him. One thing leads to another and they are both caught in a lie that's grown to gargantuan size! It's actually pretty funny! But, as you may have guessed, Teague is not your typical, shallow movie star. He has some personal issues to say the least. It seems to all come from the fact that he was given up for adoption when he was 2 years old. He feels like his mom and dad just sort of threw him away and he's never let anyone close since then. I thought Teague's train of thought was a little wonky but when someone has issues that go back to childhood, there's usually no point in trying to make sense of them. Either way, Teague is known as a love 'em and leave 'em guy and he's just fine with that image, even if he DOES wish for more.

I think Kate and Teague are perfectly matched, especially since they BOTH believe that they are not destined to fall in love. Teague thinks that it's because he won't let anyone get close (which is true) and Kate thinks it's because it's just not in the cards for her. It was a lot of fun to watch each of them fight against the attraction they have for each other. Later, it was even better to see them denying that they were falling for each other. This book is ALL about denial!! LOL! Oh! One other thing: there's this side story of Dina and her baby's daddy that was cute and fun. I loved seeing them together and it was one of the things I really liked about this book.

But I did have a couple of problems with this book. First, is the stepdad supposed to be like an "oh you forgetful rascal, you" or is he an asshole? Because I thought he was an asshole. They way he neglects his daughters (Kate and Dina) is practically criminal and I pretty much hated him from the beginning. I hated him even more as the story went on. My second (and last) issue was the hokey-ness of the whole book. I get that it's called "No Foolin'" and that the author dropped the "g" on foolin for a reason. But seriously? People in the south don't REALLY talk like that, with the Aw Shucks and Gee Whiz and constantly dropping the "g"s. Plus, the local eateries are called the Jelly Jar diner and the Kissin' Cousins diner? You have GOT to be effing kidding me. I'm sure that somewhere in the sticks, there's restaurants with ignorant names like that but do we really need to put that in print? I mean, it felt more like perpetuating a stereotype than anything else and that drives me nuts.

Overall, this was a pretty good book. I liked it! Small town southern girl goes to Hollywood on the arm of a big Hollywood star? Heck yeah! Lots of secrets and lies, where even the secrets have secrets!! You'll get some laughs and maybe a couple of tears but you'll certainly have some fun. I think anyone who likes contemporary romance will like this one.

I liked No Foolin' by Lisa Scott but unfortunately I didn't love it…actually I didn't feel anything towards it. No Foolin' is a romance novel about a confused young Hollywood badboy trying not to get too close to others, and a strong-willed country girl trying to deal with all that's thrown at her, both from her family and her personal issues. Teague Reynolds and Kate Riley become a fake couple after an unfortunate event with the paparazzi and the promise of the money Katie needs to help her family. The novel continues with Teague's and Kate's growing romance, as well as the "romance" between Katie's pregnant younger sister Dina and her baby daddy. After some bumps along the road, the novel eventually has its HEA.

This novel is well-written, with good likeable main characters, hatable "bad" characters, a good plot, cute moments, happy moments, drama, and all that's needed in a good romance novel, but unfortunately I did not feel anything throughout the novel. Usually when I read a novel I hate/love certain characters, or I hate/love certain moments, and most times I cry at the climax even though I know everything will work out and there will be a HEA around the corner, with No Foolin' I didn't experience any of these strong emotions I associate with reading a book. I didn't love or hate any characters, I just accepted them, I accepted the good moments without that wonderful pinch in my heart, and dealt with the misunderstanding climax without a single tear. Although this novel was wonderfully written cute story, I felt nothing for it.

Anyways, that's just my personal opinion…for some reason this novel wasn't in sync with my heart and emotions. I'd recommend this novel to anyone who finds the storyline interesting and hope that you connect with the story and characters even though I didn't.

A copy of this novel was provided by the publisher through NetGalley in return for an honest review.

Kate is one of my favourite characters other than Jeanne in the Willowdale Series and after all the pain and anguish Kate has been to with her ex -boyfriend Chief Tommy Larsen I just cannot wait for to find her own happy ending ..

Among the chaos going on in her life it gets more complicated when Hollywood bad boy Teague "TRex" Reynolds hires her as his 'girlfriend' in order to avoid the press, but due to their denials about their feelings and staying strictly on business has gone a different course and fell in love ( which is my favourite part in the entire novel).

This an amazing and fantastic way to start the Willowdale series, I also love the excerpt in the end for Man of the Month , Now I cannot wait to read it.

The storyline is mainly concentrated on the key characters in each novel, but it would be nice to read about what happens with the other characters in the story . At first I was rooting for Tonya and Tommy to get back together , but after learning of his 'true character' about being a Jerk he does not deserve to be with feisty Tonya , he should learn a lesson from his kid brother Mitch and try to rekindle the romance with his ex -wife Ellen.

I just hope Tonya will find her own happiness in the end like Kate and Jeanne .

It would be amazing if Ms. Scott can officially re-release No Foolin ' on paperback !

I would love to have the hard copy version added to my growing library , the same goes for all the rest of your Willowdale series!!!!

3.5 Stars This is a cute story. I enjoyed Teague and Kate a lot. The relationship they have it very sweet. I am not sure that I think this book is “upbeat” though for most of it. Kate (and her sister) have a very low self-esteem which you can understand given their history but it is a bit of a downer after a while. I actually started to feel sad for them both. I wanted Kate to have a least some confidence in herself but other than the fact that she knows she can “always make things work out one way to another” she has very little confidence in herself.

However, she also almost has a childlike quality when she learns new things. She is really a interesting character in some ways good and some ways bad but still interesting. Teague is sweet and loving but he also has a youthfulness about him that should not be there for his age. He knows he is not what the papers say he is but he is not sure he can be what he wants to be. I am not sure how he supposedly got all the money he has since he is not a big time actor yet but, hey, I don’t know how Hollywood works. But, anyway, I liked him.

I really didn’t care about the background story of Kate’s pregnant sister. She was so needy and scared of life that, again, it was a bit of a downer but I understand it needed to be there to enhance Kate’s story.

Do not get me wrong. I liked the book. I truly enjoyed the day reading it and think anyone who enjoys the romance genre will enjoy it too.

No Foolin' By Lisa Scott
Willowdale Romances Book 1
Kate Riley, lives in the small town of Willowdale, North Carolina. Her job as the school nurse isn't enough to pay off her debts so when an offer comes to pretend to be a girlfriend for a month, how can she refuse? She just has to keep her heart safe from the handsome hunk.

Teague Reynolds is known as T-Rex in Hollywood. Just like his namesake he stomps and shreds everything in his way. Well in his case it's the hearts of the women he dates and dumps. Now he has a secret in Willowdale and will do anything to keep it from the public eye. Having a girlfriend from the same town can only help his cause.

This story was full of unique characters who came to life on the pages of the book. And plenty of misunderstandings, things just are not always as they seem to be. Definitely a page turner that was hard to put down until the final words. There is a couple side stories happening as well.

I read the previous books from Willowdale; The Willowdale Romance Collection Volume 1. Three short stories that introduce the reader to this small town and some of the characters in this story. I personally enjoy series books and would recommend reading those first to have the whole story. Book two in this series is Man of the Month.

Movie star Teague Reynolds (T-Rex) needs a cover for his sudden visits to Willowdale, NC. Pretty, curvy Kate Riley—desperate for cash to pay the back taxes on her Victorian home in Willowdale—agrees to pose as Teague’s girlfriend. Kate quickly finds that having a fashion wardrobe, her own stylist, and a side trip to romantic Maui with smokin’ hot T-Rex has a down side—relentless paparazzi, a league of jealous women, and a publicist that won’t let a wholesome, small-town girl ruin T-Rex’s image. Lisa Scott revs up the sexual tension between Teague and Kate, but away from the cameras, on a sensual journey to lush Hana, they can’t deny the depth of their feeling for each other. Can a dream so intense and so Hollywood become happy-ever-after for Teague and Kate? Not without banishing secrets and taking care of old business. Scott’s handling of the characters’ growth is a two-hanky winner. If you’re looking for a sexy, fast read that will warm your heart in the end, grab Lisa Scott’s first Willowdale Romance, No Foolin’!

I picked up this story when it was a deal of the day. This was my first book by this author, the synopsis sounded fun and the price was right. I always love the stories when a small town girl get to meet a movie star or rock star because they are fun to follow and what girl doesn't have a fantasy of having a famous hottie fall for her. Well this story was fun to watch, because not only did we get the boy meets girl factor along with the angst of the inner workings of show business, but the characters had interesting family dynamics that made the players more dimensional. There was good humor, interesting characters and a sweet romance, an overall enjoyable read.

I gave it 5 stars... I started this book wondering what in the world could possibly happen to Kate after reading The Willowdale short story A Perfect Setup... I loved it because the characters were so real Kate wasn't always so sure of her self yet she still had sass Teague was sure of himself but yet he was vulnerable. It had me laughing out loud at times and wiping tears at others and the chemistry was so there! I can't wait to read the rest of this series...anything Lisa Scott writes is worth a read :-)

Lisa Scott has written another 5-star story. Grabbing you from the get-go, No Foolin' weaves thoroughly developed characters in and out of dilemmas that seem insurmountable. Kate Riley, the main character, deals with the disasters while she also lives every woman's fantasy. This is a page-turner. No foolin'.

If you've ever read any of Lisa Scott's Flirt short stories, you'll absolutely love her longer No Foolin'. It's fast-paced, full of twists and turns and has a laugh on just about every page. You'll not only enjoy seeing how a drop-dead gorgeous movie star can hook up with a small-town girl, but the journey they take you on will thrill you for sure. It will defintiely lighten your day.

A fun read, looking forward to the next book in the series! While I enjoyed Kate & Teague's story, I am totally a sucker for a book with secondary characters' romance and this book delivers. Can't wait to return to Willowdale!

Final feeling: yawn

I prefer LS's novellas. They are sweet and carry a punch, but this dragged. I'm also not crazy about the famous/movie star themed books.

Fun read

It is a good story and a fun read. Well written and not full of mistakes and typos like some e books. Great for a vacation at the beach.

Mostly enjoyed. Loved Teague. Would have liked a little more happy and a little less depressing in the middle, but the ending was lovely.
