The girl: Grayson Ware. Wealthy and oh-so-beautiful heiress, although she's turned all of her suitors away. Grayson excelled at elocution in school, so she's convinced she's destined for the stage - if she can't do it in London, she'll run away to America and be a star. For realz.

The guy: Duncan Palmer. He's really the marquis of something or other, but he's been living with an uncle in America after his parents died when Duncan was around twelve or so after Duncan supposedly shot his father after his father strangled his mother during a violent argument. Duncan's returned to England to investigate how his other uncle is managing the English side of the business (they're in trade, you know).

Anyhoo, Duncan is suffering from frequent attacks of the nastiest of nasty headaches, and only a strong dose of laudanum and the sleep of the dead will cure it. Problem is, is there's a murderer afoot in London, strangling young girls on the streets, and every time a murder happens is on the same night as one of Duncan's attacks - and he can't remember a thing.

That's the gist of it, but really don't bother wasting your time here, and definitely not for Peerage Purists. I guessed the big reveal of who was behind the murder around page 44 - that's not a good thing. Grayson is much too modern minded for my tastes, and WTF were her guardians doing letting her run around loose and unescorted? First name basis with Duncan at their first meetings and in front of her guardian at that? How did she manage to get her hands on a set of male evening clothes, mustache and wig, let alone get out of the house wearing them? For realz?

Don't bother.
