A wildlife biologist explores fourteen ecological mysteries, including why a herd of reindeer would suddenly disappear and why dead pigs would become mummified, to reveal the connections between living things in nature. Reprint.
I started reading this book last year. It is a non fiction children's book and it's wonderful. The book is filled with cases files about different mysteries that occurred in nature and how scientists figured them out. It is a great book for kids. Any child who is really interested in nature could enjoy it but it's probably more for 3rd to 5th graders to read on their own. (Hard copy).
Approached ecology like a mystery, and not all of these "cases" are solved yet. Some guilt used suggesting that humans are messing up how the earth really should be. Nice section in the back if your want to research these cases more.
Fifteen field studies of science "mysteries" in which scientists worked to discover something that was awry in nature. These articles, written for upper elementary students, explain what happens when our environment changes. I will most definitely use these stories with my students.
