About the author

Ai Yazawa (Japanese: 矢沢あい, Yazawa Ai) is a Japanese manga author and illustrator. Her pen name comes from singer Eikichi Yazawa, of whom she is a fan.
Yazawa started her comics career in 1985. She specialises in shojo manga (girls' comics). Most of her works have been serialised in the magazines 'Ribon', 'Cookie' and 'Zipper'.
Yazawa's stories focus on young, often rebellious women and their relationships. The characters are always very stylish, and Yazawa herself is known for her sense of fashion. (She even attended a fashion school for some time after high school.)
Among her most famous manga are Tenshi Nanka Ja Nai (I'm No Angel, 1992–1995), Neighborhood Story (1995-1998), Paradise Kiss (1999-2004), and Nana (2000-2009), the latter awarded a Shogakukan Manga Award in 2003. Some of these works have been adapted into anime and live action movies.

Currently, this manga is manipulating my emotions. I adore Miu dearly and hope for nothing but the best for her. My favourite boys are Yasu and Shin. Although I am a little let down by Hachi, I believe the story will improve in upcoming volumes. And you takumi, screw you.

“Men are so useless. I can make Hachi happy.” THEN DO IT NANA!! Hachi and Nana reunite at Shin and Reira’s party and it's a much better reunion than the one at the fireworks show. Takumi is just such a shitty person. I hate how he yelled at Hachi at the party, then he forces himself on her? I need her to leave him and be with Nana already. I'm so happy Shin and Hachi got to see each other, but also the Shin and Reira thing has gotta stop. Shout out to Yasu for not letting Takumi ruin Hachi’s night though. I don't like Yuri at all. Nobu’s face after she slapped him pissed me off.

I'm starting to get bored with this series. Plot and character development have been in stasis for about two books now. Reading this volume kind of felt like eating soup meant for two people that's been watered down so it can feed ten.

There's definitely some entertainment to be found here, but it's a lot of sweet nothings. The soap-operatic dilemmas that the characters are currently encased in are the painfully uninteresting products of their entry into the 'real' world. Things were much more interesting when they were on the outside, living in a naive dreamworld.

This is even mirrored by the changes in Yazawa's drawing style for the last few books. While initial volumes had loving multi-page spreads that were fawning centerfolds of affection for the characters she was bringing into being, the last two volumes feature pages full of closed panels that mainly just move the plot along. Even though the plot is being moved along, however, the story itself isn't being advanced at all.

If things don't return to business as usual within the next couple of volumes, this series is in danger of losing me.

Love seeing Hachi and Nana back together. Drunk Nana is hilarious! Both characters have such interesting strengths and weaknesses, and the same could be said for the secondary characters!

Nana is a piece of my youth. At the time, I didn't realise how grown-up the mangas actually were. I never finished either the anime or the manga, so I'd like to do so now. Unfortunately, it's painfully obvious in which direction the story will go, but let's see.

I still want to mention this volume separately because it was horrible. I could hardly believe my eyes when Nana experiences sexual violence and stays with her tormentor as if nothing has happened. What a dangerous message for young people and what a disgusting mess. I really considered cancelling the series completely and it will be difficult for the author to get out of this misery.

I'm reading this series just begging Hachi to leave Takumi in the dust and be with Nana the way they both clearly want. This is driving me crazy!

I loved Nana and Hachi getting a proper, emotional reunion at long last, and Hachi's relationship with Shin is very sweet. Yasu's so cool, as always, and I like these hints of him and Miu. There's just so much drama going on here, all the time.

Takumi is the worst, but I hate how Hachi keeps normalizing his actions and staying with him. She literally refers to one of their interactions as rape (because it was) and just brushes it off. So... yikes. I really hope Hachi is going to acknowledge how toxic and abusive their relationship is and finally turn to Nana for good. Crossing my fingers.

Not liking Yuri, poor Miu for getting her heart broken. And we slowly got to know more about her and her "tough" life...
I don't know why Hachiko can stand Takumi, when he practically "raped" her after his outburst at the party. Can't accept that.

The only thing I still like is Blasts' friendship with eachother. Everything else is just getting out of control. Ren and his drug problem,Nana's reaction to that, Shin and Reira's affair, Takumi and Hachiko's relationship, Miu and her suicide thoughts and complicated life, Yuri and Nobu's relationship. The only one I could think of with a not so complicated situation is Yasu. He is the one that take cares of everything when something goes wrong. Loved his support to Miu.

I love that there's little bit of a mystery with that old lady in the restaurant. The plot was dragging a bit so I'm glad it picked up. It's nice when the reader isn't omniscient--it makes me want to keep reading!
