The prequel. Actually, the two prequels.

This is the book where you get to find out why Miyuki feels the way she does about her brother and why Tatuya feels the way he does about his sister. If you've seen the anime, this is the book that explains what that little scene at the beginning is, where Miyuki's voice over says how 'her life is a gift of her brother.' This is the story of what happened on Okinawa three years before the main story.

I wouldn't describe this as pleasant reading. It's a good story and it is well written. I'd go so far as to say that it's one of the better written parts of the series so far. The changes in perspective are a little jarring in places, but not enough to detract from the story. What happens isn't really very nice, but it's worth the read.

The short story appended at the end goes back further and tells us why Maya Yotsuba is the way she is, why Miya was the way she was, why the Yotsuba use Guardians, why the Yotsuba are so feared... There's a lot packed into a few pages and it's not a nice tale at all. Does explain so much, however.

Roll on the next book and, hopefully, a return to normal service. Still glad I read this one though.

Jadinya Mahouka-best lightnovel 2015, "gak salah, emg bener, top dah"

Reminiscence chapter ini bercerita dari sudut pandang miyuki, tepatnya 3 tahun lalu pas Miyuki &Tatsuya masuk SMP. Miyuki diharuskan menghadiri undangan tante Maya karena dia salah satu dari penerus Klan Yotsuba(kok Miyuki bukan kakaknya?hayoo). Insiden demi insiden menyertai 'liburan' miyuki dan yg paling seru diceritakan alasan mengapa Tatsuya bersikap seperti sekarang.

Kasian Tatsuya pas kecil T T

Haven't had wi-fi when I was reading it, and now it's been too long and can't remember particulars so my star rating will have to do.

I got hooked on this series as an anime -- it was the first format available in English. I then started reading the manga, which I liked, and then I started reading the translated novels. What I loved about the novels were the extra details and internal thought processes that were revealed. What I hated about the novels were the somewhat ubiquitous translation issues; the awkward sentence structures often pulled me out of the story.

Now, in this volume, the story has progressed beyond the anime & manga storylines into new material. This shift is allowing me to re-engage more quickly when I am pulled out of the story -- which I'm excited about because this is still my all-time favorite in story, world-building, and main character. It's the only fandom that I like more than Sword Art Online.

I wanted to find out what happened after the anime series so I read where it left off in the light novel series. The plot was still interesting, but the writing style was not complex or exciting. I am not sure if it was the translation I read or what. But all those things aside, I still plan to read the series. I read the book for free and I really want to know what happens with these characters even if the writing isn't that good.

This volume unveiled the relationship between the sibling, as well as the conflict between their mom and their Aunt (Miya and Maya Yotsuba). I feel really bad for what happened to Miya and Maya, as well as Kouichi Saegusa. It also answers how the Yotsuba is considered to be the untouchables.

This book shatters one big mistery that every reader of this series has. It not only reveals the power Tatsuya is born with but also how he joined Military, his role of being a guardian and interestingly the first use of his power in public in his usual and grandeur manner.

This story I think is a need-to-read one. Here we see how Miyuki got to love her brother. And how Tatsuya has dedicated heart, body, and soul to his sister from the very beginning. I loved it.

Almost wholly unnecessary. Doesn't give us more than a fragment of information we couldn't have already figured out from earlier books.

Short Crash Review on this small masterpiece:

I really thought that Tatsuya had once saved her from a injury and that was it, not much else. But no, I was wrong. This volume reveals a bunch of deep complexity that until now the world of Mahouka Kouko had lacked in.

We ser Tatsuya feel for once (literally the only time) and the developments are carefully threaded together to show the truth of what the Evil Twin Sisters Yotsuba had inflicted on him. Not only that, the politics and customary aspects expected from a mere servant and the next head of the clan leave us heartbroken as Miyuki can do nothing for him.

The line where she even surprises herself of her brother without a CAD, using magic and destroying the incoming missiles truly depicts how misunderstood he is.

At the end of it, you are left with thousands of quotes and phrases that you come back regularly to cry upon, and believe me on the fact that it will make sense for Tatsuya and Miyuki to be together following these series.

Prepare the tears and the bookmarks, because you are in for a ride.

So we FINALLY find out what changed their relationship. By now it's not hard to guess that he saved her life, but I guess in a way it was really more dramatic for him than her. If anything I understood why she defends him so much because he is extra special. I'm still trying to understand the family rules, but the relationships are clearer

the thing that draw me to the manga is the pretty illustration. but i found that the storyline is not really my cup of tea. the sister is getting on my nerves and the brother is like trying so hard to helplessly look cool. >< i tried so hard to try to like it, but i just can't T.T

I chose to rate this light novel five stars due to its entertainment value.
Like the previous Light Novels it was hard to put down.

Looking at Miyuki and Tatsuya now, it might be hard to imagine them as anything other than loving siblings. But it wasn't always this way...

Three years ago, Miyuki was always uncomfortable around her older brother. The rest of their family treated him no better than a lowly servant, even though he was the perfect Guardian, watching over Miyuki while she lived a normal middle school life. But what really bothered her was that he never showed any emotions or thoughts of his own.

However, when danger comes calling during a fateful trip to Okinawa, their relationship as brother and sister will change forever...
