The book I read to research this post was Public Speaking And Presentations For Dummies by Rob Yeung et al which is a very good book which I bought from kindle. This book is about how to deliver a speech or presentation and is jam packed with information on how to do it well. It has some of the more obvious advice like not drinking or taking tranquilizers as they make you tired and give you slurred speech and when they wear off the anxiety comes back with a vengeance. There is advice for if you are doing a presentation like considering using video which can be from sources like television or prerecorded dvd with broadcast permission or even filmed by you with workers or friends as actors. Humor is important and there are websites devoted to anecdotal stories even some specifically for sermons if you have no humorous stories of your own. There is advice on dealing with hecklers like acknowledging what they are saying which often defuses it or if someone is trying to undermine you mentioning their underlying motive and what they hope to achieve politely of course. If someone is drunk or answers there phone during a speech it is often best to ignore them. If someone answers their phone bear in mind the interruption maybe unintentional. One of the most awkward things is having to introduce someone when there is the dilemma of whether or not to mention there achievements and how long to spend doing so. There is no firm rule to this you have to use your discretion. You might think it is easier speaking at something like Roundtable or Toastmasters but you risk being compared to the other speakers. I did quite enjoy reading this book and it is certainly interesting and apparently the authors between them have lectured at Universities and appeared on television and radio talking about this subject so must be quite knowledgeable.

I thought there were some good tips in this book. It's well laid out and easy to read. I was looking for teaching tips and it was useful for that.
