This is the second "Passport to Reading" (level 1) I've bought for our current new reader, and it also gets a thumbs up from us! There is a nice balance between text and images here; not as simple as a picture book but not as daunting as a chapter book. The stories are interesting and lend themselves to self-reading, and six stories means a longer reading session (we've never read just one!).

Dex (6yo) picked out this book himself at the library. He was able to read it with little difficulty. I read a few of the stories out loud to him. Very simple sentence structure, with easily decodable words. Story is rather "meh" but if you're interested in the Rescue Bots, I suppose it could be appealing.

Illustrations were very "Saturday morning cartoons."

My 3 year old loves these books. Each book starts out with some sight words that you will find in the book. I was surprised to find out B knew the words Earth and lava!!
