An author's review of 31 Days of Summer

Picking up from the ending in 31 Days of Winter, we finally get to hear the whole of Dan's story. Why he's become the way he is, where he goes for four hours everyday, why he was so evasive with Ellie. A chance meeting throws them back into each others lives where he comes clean, but despite their obvious chemistry, there are still some fundamental differences that threaten to tear them apart. Dan's a man who is used to getting what he wants, and he pursues Ellie with dogged determination until she has no option but to submit to him and face the emotional challenges plaguing them both, together.

31 Days of Summer does not end of a cliff hanger and will satisfy those readers who love a happy ending. An epilogue however gives hint to the possibility of a future based sequel featuring these characters, while not taking away from the current conclusion of their story.

I swear each book that CJ writes gets better than the last, and OMG 31 Days of Summer is by far the best yet. The emotions, characters, and story will grip your heart from the first page. This book made me laugh, cry (I mean cry like baby), sigh, swoon, get frustrated, and gasp in shock. I don’t think I can truly describe all the emotion I went thought reading this book. Dan, Ellie, Brooke, and all the characters truly became a part of me, and I felt that I was right there with them through everything.

CJ Fallowfield is truly a one of a kind author that can make you laugh one minute, cry the next, and want to slap somebody the next. She is without a doubt one of my all-time favorite authors. You cannot go wrong with any of her books. She is a MUST READ author.

One last thought – Holy Shit the ending!!! Did that really just happen??!!

WOWZERS!! This book will not disappoint. I could not put it down. Dan & Ellie are amazing together. Their chemistry is undeniable. Dan is not used to "needing" someone and the way he "needs" Ellie throws him off his normal game. Ellie never denies her love for Dan but she thinks she knows what's best for him and puts her heart on the back burner. When they finally end up together it's a tornado of raw emotion, love, lust, and pure happiness.

"..I'm telling you now, once today isn't going to be enough for me. Kiss me, kiss me like it's our last time. I need to feel how much you want me" -Dan

"It was perfectly imperfect, just like we are, how we've always been."

31 days of summer by C.J. Fallowfield
In this second novel of the two part series (although there's a hint at the end that we may see more) we get another insight into Ellie and Dans life.
Ellie is willing to wait for Dan. His mood swings are back in full swing. He goes from gentle and loving to emotionally switched off and cold however Ellie is willing to forgo all of this and just love him. She can bypass his secret, but there's one thing she wants from him in return, something that she isn't sure he can give.
Dan is amazed to have Ellie in his life, and even though he hasn't said in so many words, he is clearly besotted with her. His attention to her needs is beyond the call of duty, but when she asks for the 1 thing she has wanted for ever, his fears become a reality, and he panics that she's going to leave again.
Join the gang in this amazing adventure of friends, family and lovers. There is a real rollercoaster of emotions in these 2 novels and I absolutely loved it. Join in the adventure of Dan and Ellie. Will they get their happily ever after? Will Dan face his daemons? Will Ellie get what she wants and deserves? Will brolly get their happily ever after? Will captain cranky lighten up and finally be happy? This is well worth the read, and the teaser at the very end has me seething, can't wait for the (hinted at) next instalment. C.J, you rock!!

OMG!!! I thought that I was in love with Dan in 31 Days of Winter, but he literally took my breathe away in this book! I experienced the whole spectrum of emotions...from pure anger at Dan's stubbornness in not trying to see Ellie's point of view to true bliss for all he did to make her his! :) And in between was a lot of laughter with the "Colorful" Brooke (and all of her random rattlings),lots of tears and LOTS of "warm" moments ;).

CJ Fallowfield, you are an AMAZING story teller!! You pulled me right back in From 31 Days of Winter and kept me hanging on by a thread most times. This was a beautiful love story sprinkled with many dashes of humor along the way. I loved the way that you intertwined the characters from your other novels. It made the story feel more real to me! And when you referenced my two favorite shows I was DONE! :) I look forward to continuing this journey with Ellie and Dan! This is a definite MUST READ SERIES!!!

This has to be thee best duet of books iv`e read in 2014. I don't know how CJ Fallowfield does it but these are my number one`s.. The main characters Dan and Ellie are just so real the loving banter between them is almost addictive, you can almost feel the sexual tension thats rife throughout.. The fantastic storyline made me breathless, how can a book make a person feel this way I ask myself and the answer is obvious "A dam good author " CJ you've excelled yourself with this one... The saddest thing of all was it had to end and end it did..."or has it " ??? I was given this ARC to read for an honest review.

Well I thought the first was good. The second was even better. Again we come across issues throughout the book that were very well written. I laughed,I cried I shook my head and thought these crazy characters. I truly loved reading and feeling like I was a part of their lives. Gotta say Brooke is just hilarious. C.J. Has thought of all kinds of things to bring this book to feel real world like. I wanted to hang out with the ladies and check out Dan and now want to go back and visit Scotland. I loved the antics between Ellie and Dan. Definitely worth buying this book.

Can I order my own Dan please.....

In this sequel to 31 Days of Winter we are thrust back into the lives of Ellie & Dan six months after their heart shattering goodbye. Dan is miserable and Ellie's struggling to move on but a chance meeting will leave Ellie questioning whether she's done the right thing in ignoring Dan or whether she owes it to herself and him to at least hear him out.

Dan needs Ellie in his life if he's ever going to be able to find the forgiveness and redemption he's been looking for. After years carrying around the guilt and pain of his past Dan must fight for his future if he has any chance of being happy. Ellie knows where her heart lies, but she also has certain things she wants out of life that she's not willing to sacrifice for anyone, including Dan. With his troubled past haunting his outlook on life, Ellie may just be forced to say goodbye to the man she loves and his stubborn pig-headed ways may just mean he'll let her.

I really loved that in book one we got to meet the sexy, rugged, dominant but moody hired help - Dan, and in book two we get to meet the charismatic, irresistible, still dominant but moody, businessman - Oliver Daniel Davenport. No matter which side of Dan you get he is ultimately one yummy package that not many women would want to resist.

This Story had me feeling highs and lows as Dan & Ellie fight to reunite with each other and I had a few sobs as C.J successfully managed to pull my heartstrings on more than one occasion in this book. This is the second book in a Duology and you must read 31 Days of Winter first to understand the storyline but if you LOVED book one then I have no doubt you will fall even more in love with the characters and the story in book #2. Must read, 5 out of 5 stars from me!!!

I was extremely lucky to be gifted this book by the author for an honest review. This book is the second book in this series and OMG, CJ has written another cracking book. Again the book follows the trials and tribulations of the sex god Dan and the ever so sweet Ellie. After a torturous 6 months apart a chance encounter rekindles feelings and Ellie heads to Scotland to find out the real truth about Dan. Dan tells his story and they briefly get back together until Ellie finds out that her and Dan don't share the same goals in life, upset and hurt they both part again for good this time. Whilst apart Ellie finds out some shocking news that will change her life forever, but she can't tell Dan. A while later Dan finds out Ellie's news and comes running determined to have Ellie back in his life. Will she accept him ? This book takes you on a journey that makes you laugh, cry and shout out loud. The story captivates you and takes you on an emotional heart wrenching story of high's and lows. CJ is such a brilliant author that she pulls you in and tugs at your heart strings, you feel everything the characters are going through. She is also so clever that characters from her other books are also entwined into Ellie and Dans story, you hear about Gabe, Logan and other well loved characters. CJ you never disappoint and I have loved every book you have written and I look forward to the next. If you haven't read CJ's books yet, you must they are awesome and some of my all time favourites.

~*~obsessed by books copy given in exchange for an honest review~*~

"Scars are reminders of our pasts, to never take things for granted, to remind us to take a different path in the future so as not be doomed to repeat the same mistakes over and over."

The concluding second part of the 31 days series follows Dan as he bares his soul and reopens his many scars. I felt this was his journey through grief, acceptance of things that can not be changed and the realisation that life is for the living. It is a heart wrenching tale at times as the course of love never runs smoothly and as he is so alpha male and stubborn too he really needs a kick a time or two!

Revelations of his actual identity, his past and his trust issues throw multiple spanners in the works but Ellie takes it all in her stride. She is an amazingly strong woman, with such a pure heart that was a sheer pleasure to read. She battles his demons and slays his dragons in a noble fight to allow him to live not be haunted by the tragic events of his past.

The backdrop of a host of characters, including Logan from For the Night series, enable you to step into Ellie and Dan's world, showing the different facets of their natures, adding depth and humour. I love CJ's style of writing, it's so descriptive and has layers of emotion. I laughed, I cried and I shook my head at times...but mostly I sat with the hope that they would reach their HEA. No cliffhanger ending but definitely scope for a little more...

5 scorchlingly hot, loving stars.

5 SuperDan stars!

Wow, This second book in the series took me totally by surprise. I read the first book and liked it but the second knocked it right out of 1st place. It was a very well written story of love, laughter (lots and lots of laugh out loud laughter) smiles, tears, find me a cup of ice cold water moments..Yes! some scenes were that HOT! The supporting characters, especially "The Brooke" were seamlessly drawn into each scene with the promise of seeing more of them in future books. The epilogue had me smiling and groaning both at the same time. Yes groan (I have to wait 6 months and smile because there is another book in the series)
Thank you, thank you, thank you, Ms Fallowfield Brava! Job well done.

A "PHENOMENAL" book! I could not put this book down. I fell in love with Dan all over again...at times I just wanted to slap him. Ellie with all her stubbornness had me laughing out loud at times. This story was well written and my favorite parts were the way CJ linked the Austin characters & Logan Steels to the story. I was so excited to read about the boathouse scene from Gabe & Mia's wedding day from the Austin Series it made me want to reread the series and to get more of Logan Steele on a different level...well i loved it.

Officially my favorite series this year. After how much I loved 31 days of winter I was a bit worried about reading the second book but C.J Fallowfield has once again blown me away. I love Ellie and Dan's story and found myself caught up in every moment. As always there are highs and lows but I love them both the whole way throughout which doesn't usually happen for me. Based on the ending, I'm thinking that there may be another book on the way - so excited!

A simply awesome series!!

When I purchased 31 Days of Winter, I had no idea it was a series. Getting to know Ellie Baxter, then meet her new home's caretaker, Oliver "Dan" Davenport, and read their yummy mutual attraction was seasoned with Dan's grumpy alter ego, Stan, and then learning of his tragic self-sacrifice was mind blowing. But now reading of how their unplugging love and cement bond of a precious little boy blossom into a marvelous and amazing love was so beautiful. In this book, you see Ellie's love grow even thicker and stronger while Dan's reaches epic proportions. The build-up to the amazing fireworks ending and the crescendo finale pages only make you want more. Luckily, I one-clicked the 2nd and 3rd parts of the series at the same time, so I'm about immerse myself in 31 Days of Autumn! Bravo C.J. Fairfield!!!

Mind blowing

The first book this year that tackled every emotion on the chart of emotions found hanging in guidance counselors office at schools. Now even though this is a standalone novel it is part of a series some parts make more season if you read each book.

Here we find Dan still struggling with handling living in the present with his past guilt hanging over his. But life is trudging along leaving him behind in many ways.
Whereas Ellie though still hurting has been trying with instances from friends on making an appearance at moving on.

Without spoilers understand there is heat, tears, frustration, babies, engagements, death, new friendships, new acceptances, secrets revealed, etc that you will not want to miss.

Book two picks up 6 months later and there are just as many twist and turns throughout the whole book. The truth comes out, there is a little surprise that shows how strong Ellie is and her love for Dan. There is still heartache and funny sections. Again this book ends in a cliff hanger so you will want book three ready to keep reading. I am a true fan of C. J Fallowfield and want to read more from her. I love Ellie and Dan and wanted to keep their story going, I could not put it down.

Ok so this one was not as good as the first book, just ok. I find that the author needs to re-evaluate how she wrote this second installment in Dan and Ellie's story. She would just end a chapter at one point in their lives only to have the next chapter 3 months later, 11 months later etc. etc. How is that flowing smoothly , how do you the reader stay connected when your consistently going backwards to make sure you didn't skip something since the story jumped all around! And to be honest they (Dan and Ellie) became boring. You knew what was happening before you read it and sexy times, meww! Epilogue...stupid I won't go into it as spoiler, but seriously this is where the author thought the story should go?!?! Undecided if I'll read final installment or not. 2.5 disappointing stars!

31 Days Of Summer by CJ Fallowfield - Reviewed by Klaire Sutherland (***** stars)

Favourite quote (as CJ always gives me one ) - "When you're as tight as you are baby, they'd think your hungry little piranha fanny had chowed down as you masturbated with a carrot" jeeze, what's not to love??
The continuation of Dan and Ellie's story, if you weren't a fan of Dan's before then this will bring you on over to his side. It begins with Dan and you get some of the reasons as to why he is the way he is, and how he thinks, and why he does the things he does. It's not all that shocking but definitely understanding. I think CJ did the right thing having Dan's POV first uncovering a layer or two. And you get a lot more Dan in this second book which pleases me greatly. I had a asked a few questions and had a few ideas about Dan and was happy some of them were right
The book spans 3 years and I was quite fine with that. I didn't want, nor did I expect and insta HEA, that is not how Dan and Ellie work. The time stamps were all in order and I had no problem following them, I perhaps had to make sure I read the date on the chapter heading that was all. I'm terrible for not noticing these things. However I did.
This book is as long as the first, it delves into the nitty gritty of these two lives, faces their fears, rejoices their triumphs. It's a bumpy road to travel but there is a lot of beauty along the way. I didn't mind the length, I felt it gave me a more precise understanding about two characters that I really enjoy. I guess you could say that through the three years there are a few times you are lulled into the false sense of security thinking that Dan and Ellie's HEA was there 3 or 4 times. You find yourself riding each and every situation along with them, the emotions are right there and so perfectly spot on. Yes, CJ had me a little eye shimmer going on which does not happen often with me, and not at the obvious places either.
This is such a beautiful love story and definitely worth the time to read, so very haunting in places, sarcastically cute and funny, absolutely raw and passionate, and it tugs at your heart right from the start to the very end. There's a see saw of emotions as you travel through this book. You get two sides to Dan and they are like chalk and cheese but maketh the man. Ellie is steadfast and such a strong character throughout, much the same as book one. Knowing what she wants and sticking to her guns. I adored the background to it, the Scottish locks and hills, it's where I live and it is probably why the scenery appeals to me so much. It was descriptively accurate for me.
The best friend relationship is as vibrant as ever and you find Brooke gets her little HEA along side Ellie in this book, the stories run tandem. And then there's the appearance of Logan (several appearances actually) CJ gives nothing away however, but I love that relationship he has with Dan, then ultimately the rest of them. I paid extra attention with Logan to see if I could get any info on his shenanigans in the Strangers series. Bah, no such luck
The epilogue has me intrigued however. I'm really, really excited for this. People that know me understand that I tend to lean towards the darker side and upon reading that, well....senses are pricked already. The next outing has the potential for CJ to perhaps step outside her comfort zone and do something with a little more teeth, like sharp ones. Will just have to wait and see So this for me was a 4.5 star rating but as we don't do halves I'll take it up to 5. The story of Dan and Ellie is one you really should put onto your TBR and read, it's one of those pick me up, put me down, feel good kind of books. Congratulations CJ!!

Every book C.J. Fallowfield writes just gets better than the last!

The ending of 31 Days of Winter
After Ellie discovers Dan’s most hidden secret she leaves the island leaving Dan behind. She’s spent most of the first book trying desperately to get him to open up about what causes him to shut her out. As she goes to get on the plane to go home with no more fight left in her, Dan shows up and NOW he wants to be an open book and bear his soul about everything but, he’s a day late and a dollar short. She slips through his fingers maybe for the last time.

31 Days of Summer
We are now 6 months later in London as Ellie has tried to pick up the pieces for her deepest heartbreak. Things in life are starting to look better for her and she even decided to go on a lunch date with a “simple” and “non-complicated” guy from work after an extreme amount of pressure from her BFF Brooke.
This is when the storm starts to brew. It just so happens that Dan and his mother are arriving to have lunch at the same place Ellie and her date are. She runs right into Dan’s hard and sculpted chest which knocks her on her butt. The electricity is still there after all these months and he’s pleading for a chance to explain what happened. Stubbornly, Ellie refuses to hear him out and from that point he tells her she will not have another chance to get her answers; this is it. She again walks away.

After a change of heart and some information that comes to light she decides to go back to Scotland and book a stay at his hotel in hopes he’ll be there and finally be honest with her.

After a short reunion and everything laid out on the table, everything “looks” like smooth sailing to rekindle their relationship. There are two very important things Ellie wants from life; marriage and children, both of which Dan refuses her because of his past. Ellie makes the most difficult decision of her life by walking away from the only true happiness she has known. Little does either of them know that this will change the course for their destiny with no turning back.

What comes next will at times break your heart, make you want to scream, and cry for these true to life characters. SO many obstacles are thrown their way and we continually wonder how much more they can take before one of them breaks. I’m so happy that C.J. throws in a couple of miracles that will warm our hearts. We get our HEA with a potential look into their future. That future includes ghosts from relationships in the past. We will have to see “if” and “where” C.J. decides to take us from here.

I absolutely LOVED how she brought Logan into this story in such a way we get a glimpse of his personality when he’s not pretending to be someone else.
C. J. You are talented as ever and get better every time I read one of your masterpieces. I look forward to your next adventure for Logan as well as Dan & Ellie.
