The best-ever work on the subject of understanding the church as a family system, this book is, in my estimation, indispensible to pastors. Much more accessible in my mind than Friedman's seminal "Generation to Generation" it contains numerous theological reflections, case studies, and practical advice. The major drawback of this highly original, wise, and engaging work is the title, which is among the most awkwardly rendered I've ever come across. This book is far less about Multiple Staff Ministries than understanding how churches develop a particular culture and how, like any other organization, it can become highly dysfunctional if people do not attend to the systemic processes that underlie all "families." Do not be fooled; this is the work of an extraordinarily talented author and clinician.
