In Jesus was a Liberal, Jerry Wilde takes on conservatives who have ?stolen Jesus? and used (and abused) Christ for political gain. He uses Jesus? words and deeds to demonstrate how the conservative philosophy has very little to do with the way Jesus wants people to live. The conservative agenda is a falsification, and even a rejection, of Christ's teachings. Jesus said, Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. Well, the truth is Jesus was no conservative, Jesus was a Liberal.

I've read some of Jerry Wilde's other stuff, so I knew to expect subjective, conversational style. What I didn't really expect (and I should have) was for so much to still be so relevant 20 years later. His criticisms of George W. Bush, for example, are only magnified with Donald Trump's era in the White House.
Some great quotes: "Blind allegiance is great in college fraternities but it stinks in a democracy."
Mark Twain "Patriotism means supporting your country all the time, and your government when it deserves it."
A section about Lev Vygotsky talking about language being important to how we think was so helpful! Language is "the central tool for thinking."
"In politics, a lie unanswered becomes truth within 24 hours." Willie Brown
"Twenty-five years from now, when democracy exists in name only and the country is comprised of gated communities and the rest of us, what will we say to our grandchildren? What will we say when they ask us, 'Was America always like that?' No, we'll tell them and stories from America's past will pour out of us. We'll blink back tears as we use the words freedom, integrity, truth and decency. Then we'll try to explain how a small percentage of people took over the government by conning slightly over half the voters that they spoke for God.
