Set in the mortal world of a story-loving Valkyrie meets a reclusive writer with unforeseen choices to be made.
A story is not a story unless it has a beginning and an end. There is no such thing as a story without an end since a story without an end can never be told and therefore cannot exist.
This is an unforgettable novel about finding an unknown version of yourself in a different world. This is the story about a woman who finds herself deeper in love with other people's stories than her own world. Awakened by a different kind of life, by the different shades of love that is life for most human beings, by feelings like jealousy, anger, passion, and transformation, she finds another world to live in and with that, she finds the cost of giving in to living in the stories.
From a world of white, of snow, courage, and battle to the roaring world of humans in their endless game of love and loss, a Valkyrie with a love for stories exchanges everything she knows for a new story.
I found this an interesting and unusual story and you need to take a few moments now and then, to ponder on what you have read. Could the underlying principle of what is written be true? This is a story of discovery. The protagonist is dissatisfied with her existence, but does not know what she wants. Looking over the fence into another world, she believes the answer to her problem lies there and embarks on a journey into it. Encountering a world so different from her own, she struggles internally and externally looking for the man whom she believes will understand her, and fill the void that is in her life.
The book draws you in and turns everything you believe about reality up-side-down.

To start with, I should mention that I'm not really qualified to review this book because this is the first fantasy book of this kind that I've ever read.
I was very impressed by the mixing of different life forms (Norse mythological beings and human mortals and some kind of multi-world soothsayer) and the jumping between parallel universes. It's especially interesting if you're interested in Norse mythology: the gods (Thor and Odin and so on) and valkyries and other immortal beings of that mythology.
The story is told by Kari, a valkyrie who falls in love with a human, an author, after she first falls in love with his books. Like all love stories there are ups and downs, which I won't try to describe.
My opinion of the story started out good, then hit a low point where I almost stopped reading due to an excess of "nothing really matters" philosophizing. But I continued, and am glad that I did; the last part of the book gets a lot better again.
Some minor technical points:
There are two editions of this book on Amazon, one costing 67% more than the other. I bought and read the cheaper edition, from 2018, but had difficulty finding it via my Kindle device. I may have missed noticing a tiny "Other editions (1)" message. What I ended up doing was buying the cheaper edition via Amazon's website.
There is also currently an incorrect listing here on Goodreads where the author's name is spelled Louise Anderson.
