The Clearing By Shalini Boland is the second in a YA dystopian series.

First, let me thank NetGalley, the publisher Second Sky and of course the author, for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Series Background:  (Warning:  Contains spoilers from previous books)
World-wide terrorist attacks have changed the world.  There is no government, and the military are no longer in charge.   In England, compounds called Perimeters spring up, most with high-security. Riley Culpepper lives one such compound.  Her father is a trader.  Her sister Skye was murdered by someone who broke into the grounds.

My Synopsis:    (No major reveals, but if concerned, skip to My Opinions)
Riley is terrified that the protected world she knows is about to end.  She has lived in the Talbot Woods Perimeter compound with guards and walls.  Even though she was Outside not long ago in the hunt for her sister's murderer, she is happy to be away from that chaos and violence.  But it is now threatening the life they know.

James Grey, a religious zealot has been building an army using the children that he has kidnapped, and they are on the move.  Both Riley's and Luc's fathers are headed to one of the other compounds to get ready for the battle.

Liss is one of those children that was taken from her home when she was seven.  She and her brother FJ were separated at that time.  Liss has no idea what became of him.  Although the other girls she was with "drank the soup" and conformed to Grey's ways, Liss kept her own mind, and she only wants to find FJ and escape.  It has been years.

Riley, with Luc by her side, will attempt to rescue Liss and FJ (for a second time).  This time with additional help.  But it may not be enough.

My Opinions:
Well,  I was nervous going into this book, as the first one was somewhat disappointing.  This was much, much better.  Note that it picks up about a month after the last book.

Riley, although still showing her teenage angst, was much stronger (and brighter) in this book, and I liked Luc.  Both Liss and Annabelle were heart-warming characters, and I liked them both from the beginning.  It was nice to see Denzil back.

The story is told from both Riley's and Liss's perspectives.  There was no confusion, and it worked well.

There was plenty of action.

I can honestly say that I am looking forward to Book 3.

The prologue is very tense and exciting. Written in the first person, we’re in a forest clearing and there are hooded people closing in. I love prologues like this as while you continue reading, you have this image in the back of your mind, waiting for the time when the connection is made and everything falls into place.

Throughout the book we have two timelines that alternate. Beginning with Riley and a scene where she is trading on the quay with her pa and looking forward to a picnic with Luc we then switch to siblings Liss and FJ 9 years earlier. With Liss we experience the capture and everything that follows whilst with Riley we are in the now … until the timelines merge. Boland leaves us at each timeline knowing enough to hold our interest but not with the full information. Of course this makes the reader want to turn those pages to find out exactly what is going to happen next!

Underlying both threads is fanaticism and the power held by a force that has grown strong. A strength built on brainwashing and religious zeal which is on a path of destruction. If the force isn’t stopped, major consequences will follow. I can’t really say too much because I don’t want to give any spoilers!

Riley is a strong character. Although she’s brave, she also has that underlying lack of confidence that teens feel. I loved it that she did things anyway, acting on instinct. She also feels intense fear at times but still she manages to pull herself together and act with the thought of others before herself. The romance that there is between Riley and Luc is very fragile. The connection is there and strong but the focus in this story is on the mission they undertake. They do get a brief chance to talk about their feelings, but Riley is at that teen stage where she would rather put on a front instead of facing the rejection she is expecting (very true to life!)

Liss is also a strong character. I loved the way she took on a maternal role for 4 year old Annabelle – despite only being 7 herself! This relationship is a key factor when things go wrong. The ceremonies and the fear that Liss feels is really well portrayed. I could feel my limbs shaking and that dread in the pit of my stomach.

FJ is the character we all love to hate. Arrogant, lacking empathy and 100% sure of his place in the world – he really got under my skin. What a fabulous character! He hooked Riley in with his throw-away comment and I can’t wait to see where this will take us in Book Three.

The Clearing is tense, nerve-wracking and with plenty of action. It is a world populated with characters and events that are believable (and therefore quite scary). There is sadness but there is also a familial scene that brought tears to my eyes (for good reasons).

Boland has done it once again. I’ve been engrossed and my imagination has been captured.

I would like to thank the author for providing a copy in exchange for an honest review.

I was lucky enough to receive a pre-publication electronic review copy of this novel from the author. All I can say is that I will be purchasing the paperback edition as soon as it's available too. It's just that good.

Shalini Boland is truly a wonderful author. She has managed to successfully negotiate the trap that most authors - even my favourites - manage to fall into without even coming close to falling in. This particular trap is what I call 'middle book syndrome'. Usually I find the second book in a trilogy is a bit wearing, a bridge across the distance between a good beginning and an explosive ending, not too great in its own right. This however, is absolutely brilliant.

The Clearing picks up a few weeks after the ending of Outside, the first novel in the trilogy. I was expecting a longer time period to have elapsed between the two, and I found it to be quite refreshing that the action ploughed straight on through the story. Once again, the narrative is from two different perspectives, and I particularly enjoyed the introduction of new characters that were only touched upon in the first book.

The writing style is delightful; it flows well and it really helps you to get inside the characters' heads as they develop and grow and the story progresses.

I thought the ending had a delightful twist (I won't enlighten you as to what it was) that brought the enduring motif from the first book crashing into the second, leaving me absolutely desperate to read the next novel (even though I know it hasn't been written yet!).

I would recommend this novel to anyone - you could read it as a stand alone novel but I would sincerely recommend reading the first novel in this series first; it would give you a good background and an insight into the characters' insights, plights and personal demons.

I loved the first book in this series - Outside - and couldn't wait to read Clearing.

What I really enjoyed about Outside was the way Shalini Boland entwines two story-lines together. I wasn't sure if that was going to happen this time, as the previous tale came to its conclusion at the end of Outside. But, the author keeps things interesting by telling the tale of a young girl kidnapped by a cult at an early age. It's a scary and heartfelt tale that works well with Riley's story.

This is a fast paced book with lots of action and quite a few tear-jerking moments. Riley is a great character, strong and fierce.

There's a great twist towards the end. It's one that works well with the rest of the book, and sets the story up really well for the next installment. Needless to say - I will be buying it! And I can't wait!

Just finished reading Shalini's The Clearing and I can honestly say it was AMAZING!! As was the case with her other books (yes, I am a FAN), I just couldn't put it down.
It was fast paced from the very beginning, just like the first book in the series. I would read late at night desperate to know what was going to happen to Riley and Liss. I wasn't disappointed (I cried too) and now I'm desperate for book three to come out later in the year!
I would highly recommend all of Shalini's books, she's a brilliant author!

Riley and Luc are home and safe for the time being but how long can it last. She's realizing that her feelings are more than what she believed. She is still so unsure of everything that is happening. Her parents are just getting over almost losing her and the mess that Ellie had made when things begin their inevitable spiral.

Riley and Luc are out on a picnic when it's cut short by visitors that are being held in jail. Come to find out the duo that duped them and nearly got them killed were double crossed by the almighty James Grey. They are desperate and trade help for information about the psychotic and vengeance seeking leader of The Close.

Things are being stirred up outside their perimeter as Grey unleashes his armies of the brainwashed. Riley is resolved to do what she can for those who need saving. Luc would never let her go on alone. Her Pa, Johnny is not happy with the entire situation but with Grey closing in on the surrounding perimeters and slowly taking over everything, he's left with little choice but to let the young pair go off to the very place he never wanted them to return.

He is off himself to secure the other perimeters and lead a stand against the evil Grey.

Riley reluctantly must employ help from a man she would rather have nothing to do with but Connor is connected and as an electrician he is a prized commodity to any perimeter. They go off on a dicey gig to get in and out and hopefully retrieve the two things their double crossed cohorts would do anything for.

Then there's a tandem story in The Clearing that chills you to the bone.

Lissy is young and scared when she is taken from all she has known. At the age of seven she is taken to The Close and indoctrinated, but made wise by a brave girl, giving her sort of an upper hand.

"Don't drink the soup." will stick with me for certain. She claims a young frightened four year old is her sister so that she may be allowed to look after the four year old.

She is growing weary in their captivity and desperately wonders where they have her brother. He is a bit older but was taken as well.

All sorts of things unfold at her first service in the presence of the self proclaimed almighty appointed James Grey. Liss finds out what penalty there is for those who do not adjust to their new blessed and chosen life. She finds out the brave girl who made her wise has been being help captive and is sentenced to a worse fate. The account of this very happening sent shivers down my spine.

She is given a new name and she and the young girl she had take under her wing Annabella are given new, holy names. Liss is now Deborah and Annabelle is Anna.

Years pass, nine to be exact when Liss has fallen into her duties and learned well how to blend in with the rest of the inhabitants of The Close.

She is put in charge of her dorm and life goes on.

Eventually Grey must take a right hand man to do his speaking and they call him The Voice of the father. Lissy is devastated when she sees who this man is and passes out! Iwould have too!

Meanwhile, Riley and Luc meet up with a surprise of an old friend and are off to see if Connor has come through or not. Riley hates having to trust the man she has little faith in but given the circumstances she is left with little choice.

They wait for days for Connor but are finally met on the outskirts be a young female instead with one heck of a story. The tidbits of this are staying unspoiled. I just won't but wow!

With Connor and Liss both in the dungeon, Riley, Luc and Denzil a old friend who helped them in The Outside, have no choice but to risk it all on a suicide mission to get Lissy and Connor out. They are determined to get a very warped, "Voice" *aka* F.J. out too. Him and Liss are what they came for anyhow, but Riley can't help but want to nip the entire impending war in the bud by taking out Grey as well.

Tensions ran so high in this book I was having to take a break! It is such a fast paced read that has you reading paragraphs at record speed.

The story converges and turns to one as all of the characters converge as well. And oh, man! Such an epic part of the book, truly nail biting.

And some of the things that transpired made me cry so much, it was so sad. I really wished it would have been different in that moment but the story is filled with tragedy. It is a post- apocalyptic dystopian after all.

There was an eeriness about the last part as the disciples of Grey were amassed, it was so wicked, lifting the hairs on my arms with just the thought of their chanting.

Barely getting out of harms clutches is getting to be the norm for Riley and Luc, I do hope they sort the personal stuff out next book!

It was really a great read and I am so not joking about how gripping this series truly is. It captivates you and pulls you along and you eagerly follow hanging on every word down to the last. Not a dull moment or an unrealistic one for that matter.

I am so unbelievably happy I had book 3 in my eager clutches. I would have truly hated to wait to read Perimeter!

Loving this series immensely!

Title: The Clearing( The Outside Series) Book 2
Author: Shalini Boland
Publisher: Adrenalin Books
Publication Date: 15th January 2013

In the ravaged future, children are disappearing.

Riley lives safely behind her Perimeter Fence, but soon she'll have to confront the terrible truth of what's happening outside. An old enemy is approaching. Threatening to extinguish her way of life.

To save herself, she will have to fight to save another. She must put herself in the last place she ever wanted to be.

Now i'll be totally honest and I had never of Shalini Boland or The Outside series books until the ever so lovely Sharon Goodwin from Fiction Addiction Book Tours asked me would I read and review this book.. Which I dived at the chance. Now I wasn't really into post apocalyptic novels but I am so glad I didn't turn my nose up because I loved this book ever so much.

Now I was asked to review this book but I hadn't even read the first book The outside so I quickly downloaded it on my Kindle and Boy was I glad I did, It was a great hooking read which after reading I jumped straight on to this book wanting to read more of the lives of Riley and Luc.

Shalini's style of writing definitely had me hooked from the first couple of pages, at one point I was even gripping to my cushion dying to know what was going to happen or if any surprises would scare me hehe. I don't want to give the story line away too much but I do recommend to fully understand the story in this book, I would read the

I loved pretty much all the characters in this book, wasn't very keen on the baddies but I don't suppose people will like baddies in stories hehe. I loved the closeness between Riley and Luc but was a bit gutted though... (Shalini I was disappointed :( lol..Hopefully you will know why) Riley is definitely the heroine in this book, and she was written about so beautifully and how brave she is.

The is a excellent and amazing twist right at the end which had me shocked to my feet, was definitely left on a cliffhanger leaving me wanting book 3 right now!!!
I hope in the next book we do get to see more of Riley and Luc and see where their relationship will go, because Luc is always ever so protective of Riley and always helped protect innocent people too, he wasn't ever selfish.

I want to say a big thank you to Shalini Boland for sending me a paperback copy of her book but also a big big thank you to Sharon Goodwin from Fiction Addiction Book Tours for introducing me to a ever so wonderful author!

As the second book in the Outside Series, I was unsure what to expect. I read book one right before this one and enjoyed it, so I was hoping this one would be just as good. I was very happy with it. The writing flowed just as easily. I was able to totally understand and relate to each character, loving how they developed as the story progressed.

I loved Riley. She is the heroine of the story. The young lady who wants to help make the world a better place. She does not live in a bubble, but she has lived in a protected world. It seemed Riley had no fears. She was able to put her own safety to the side and put her life on the line in order to save the others in the novel. She was also so compassionate towards others. The world she lived in is so different than the world we live in, but it could be our future, and she embraced it and all that it entailed. Riley has all the characteristics that our young adults now should wish to have.

Luc was also amazing. He not only stood up for his family and friends, but he put himself in dangerous situations to help total strangers. He also was extremely protective of Riley and I am itching to see where their relationship heads, as there were hints of the feelings they have for each other. He was a young man with manners, feelings, and so brave and daring.

The ending of the book had an amazing twist, I never saw it coming. It was definitely a cliffhanger, leaving you wanting more. The Clearing is perfect for anyone looking for adventure on a future Earth.

Definitely, definitely, definitely definitely read the first book or you will not have any idea what is going on. (okay, maybe you just wont understand a good chunk of it) Plus, you know, the first one is awesome! We start off a little bit after the first book ended. Riley is no longer as sheltered. In fact, she has become sort of a bad ass!<3 I love it!

After the first book, I welcomed the addition of another story running parallel to this one! Liss is such a sweet girl and I thoroughly enjoyed her story along with the continuation of Riley's! Ah, I love how the author has the two stories going. Which is strange because I started off wary of it.

I do not want to put too much in here, because I think I overdid it in the review of book one. O.O I will just say. Characters: awesome. Post apocalyptic world: fascinating and scary and still getting better. Romance: MORE. GIVE ME MORE. Also, there are some messed up people in this book.... :D I'm okay with that.

MUST YOU ALWAYS LEAVE ME WITH CLIFFHANGERS, WOMAN?! *exasperation+awe*
I cannot wait to see what happens to our characters next.. and that twist at the end.. the woman can really write a book to keep you turning pages and leave you a little bit angry when you reach the end. [It's okay though. I forgive you. Just write another book.]

Some stuff from the first book was not addressed. I was a bit disappointed, but maybe it will sneak its way into the next book? Who knows! :D

AMAZING ANOTHER GREAT WORK DONE BY BOLAND

I could not wait for this second book to come out. i was lucky enough to receive an advance cope for it from the amazing author. I started it right away and could not put it down. If I did not have to work I would have finished it sooner then I did.

The book starts back up a month after Outside. Its told from two perspectives like the first one did. It was amazing I love it I feel as if I am there with Luc and Riley on their adventures. They go to more limits and more risks in this book then they ever have. I was sucked back into the amazing world that Boland created once again. I feel as if I was there with them. I cannot wait for the next book in the series I will be waiting patiently for this to be in my hands so I can get lost again.

The ending to the book has an amazing twist that will leave you hanging and hungry for more!!!! This book is for anyone that is looking for a little adventure in a world that may not be to far away from our future.

I was given this book by the author in exchange for an honest review after I read the first one.

I was enthralled from start to finish. It picks up wonderfully from the last book, and takes part of the previous story and excites you in the same way the first book did.

I loved how we still had two points of view... and how they connect together in the end. I loved how tension was created, just oozing out of the page.

I have immensely enjoyed reading these books.

The characters were completely realistic and believable. The scenario's... all too real and scary. It's refreshing to read something that makes you think... This could actually happen.

Definitely recommend this one :)

This second book in the Outside series was very good. I really like the author's fast paced style and her exciting and suspenseful storyline. In this book, we find out from Fred and Jessie who were in the book 1 that James Grey, who has been kidnapping children since the apocalypse began, has amassed an army. Fred's and Jessie's two children, FJ and Liss, were kidnapped by James Grey 9 years ago and now his army is on the move and heading toward Riley's and Lucas' perimeter. He has plans to take over all of Britain and must be stopped. I plan to read book 3 very soon.

I think I prefered this to the first book, but there were still a couple of moments where I thought people acted like muppets, and Riley's attitude towards Luc was ridiculous. She likes him, and she knows he likes her, so why mess about and tell him she wants to be friends?

This review was originally posted on my blog, here

There Is
After finishing The Outside, despite it not ending on a major cliffhanger, I was definitely reading to jump into reading The Clearing, and boy was I glad that I read this book. It was truly a great adventure that kept me needing to turn the page. The only thing I can really recommend is that anyone who reads this book has read The Outside first. While it is possible to pick it up fairly easy from the story, there is essential background information in the first book of this series that is not in the second one. Aside from that, I would highly recommend this book as it is one that I really liked and just couldn’t get enough of.

A Threat
Unlike the previous book, this novel starts straight in with the action as the slower background work has already happened for the series. This helped to make the book more compelling and action-packed then the book that came before it. The Clearing was fast-paced from the get go and really keeps the reader interested as it flips between different stories and character POVs; henceforth broadening the story. It is also full of different twists and turns that keep the action and tensions high, making it shocking and compelling all at the same time. This author really knows how to write a book that grips you from the start until the very end.

That Will Change
The characters from the first book that appear in this one are just as great to read about in this story but we are also introduced to some new characters who took my breath away. First and foremost is Liss. I found her to be a really sweet, protective, strong, protective character that I couldn’t help but find myself adoring. She was scared but brave, worried and afraid but able to put on a brave face for Annabelle and that really struck a chord with me. She went through so much and still turned out to be such a great person and I really liked that about her. FJ, on the other hand, was a character that you were meant to dislike and I certainly felt hatred towards him. But I also felt compassion for him to. I understood so much about him, could see where it all must have gone wrong for him and am actually really intrigued to see more of him in the next book.

Everything Dramatically
It is clear from this second book in the series that Shalini Boland is a brilliant writer who has a lot of talent within her with the ability to progress in her writing skills. I loved the way she keeps the story tense and gripping. She has a way of twisting the plot in many different ways while also making it still easy to follow. I didn’t expect a lot of the things to occur to did and I found that to be a large part of her charm as I hate it when I can guess what will happen next or how books will end but even as this book only had a few pages left, I wasn’t sure if all our characters would be safe or not. It is clear that a lot of care and time was taken with this book which just helps to make it even more enjoyable.

Until It’s Over
Overall, The Clearing is a book that really shouldn’t be missed. It is full of action, is fast-paced and interesting, and is one of those books that is just a real treasure to be able to read. It is a brilliant and powerful novel that I really enjoyed reading, would be happy to read again and simply couldn’t recommened it anymore. It is also just as emotional, if not more, than the first one in the series, and has a very intriguing and cliff-hanger-y ending that will have you on the edge of your seat gripping the sides of your e-reader as your mind devours the words on the page. I would easily recommend this book to lovers of post-apocalyptic fiction, and especially to those that have read the first book in the series. While the first was good, it is easy to state that the second book is better, and therefore I am now itching to get my hands on the third book as I am making a grand assumption that it will be even better than the second. So what are you waiting for? Get started on this series now!

MY REVIEW
I received a kindle version of this book direct from the author Shalini Boland, in exchange for my honest review. The cover has a desolate feel to it in the blueish grey colours and the girl standing near the window. I suppose the girl could be Riley, but after reading the book I think it is Liss looking longingly outside to a possible freedom from inside the canonary where she is being held. where Grey and his devout followers try and brain wash young people into becoming zombie like beings who obey orders without any other thought.
The blurb is suitably criptic which I like. There's action, suspense, thrills, drama, friendship and a touch of romance. The Riley and Luc relationship status is still kind of up in the air, do things go any further? You'll have to read to find out! So in this book once again Riley and Luc team up with another character from Bk#1 Denzil to try and break in the compound. Yes, you read it right they want to get in! The reason they want to get in is to rescue Liss and FJ. Though things don't quite go to plan, when one of those they are going to rescue ends up having to be taken forcibly! But do they manage to all get out alive? Mind you, the lie those in the compound live is a monotonous one, where they worship Grey, who calls himself the father. Grey's voice has been damaged so he need a vessel to speak through. that vessel/person turns out to be someone you wouldn't expect it to be. There's plenty of surprises and little twists and turns. You sort of make your mind up as you are reading and think oh this is going to happen and then one thing changes and everything is turned on it's head. The book has a fairly fast pace, you definitely hate to put it down, I read it in just two sessions. I think had I had the time I would have read the book in one sitting. The book ends in such a way that you immediately want to read the third book too.
So did you enjoy this book? I loved it. The Clearing is a brilliant dystopian/post apocalyptic novel. Would I recommend this book? Yes, I recommend this series so far, it's a MUST read for dystopian/post apocalyptic genre fans. Would I want to read more in this series? OoOoo yes please, I'd read it now if it was available. I felt this way after reading BK#1 in this series too. Would I read more books by Shalini Boland? I would definitely take a look at any/all books by Shalini as I do enjoy her writing style, she truly makes it so easy to read her books.

My Review of Book One: Outside

Book two of Shalini Boland's Outside series is much more intense and exciting than the first book. While the first book seemed to be done in small little episodes - book two has a much larger story arc that continues to build throughout the entire story. Again the storyline jumps from the past - following a little girl names Liss after she is kidnapped from her parents - to the present of Riley and Luc attempting to rescue her from a compound known for kidnapping and brainwashing children to build an army.

Liss's story is tragic and frightening. Boland does a fantastic job portraying the events she needs to overcome in order to resist the brainwashing that she is being subjected to on a daily basis. Riley and Luc, having just returned from their dangerous trek in search for the killer of Riley's sister, are sent outside the perimeter to help find and rescue Liss in return for some valuable information on a deadly enemy.

Full of excitement and adventure, the book was much easier to sit down and read straight through than the first. Boland's writing seems to have developed in a fantastic way. The world that is built really develops and there is a lot of character building as well. Most of the time I don't like the second as much as the first or the ones that follow - this was a welcome surprise that I really enjoyed.

(I received a copy from the author, in exchange for an honest review)

Not long after Riley showcases her trading skills, She has a very unexpected arrival turn up wanting to talk. This leads to more danger, which Riley takes in her stride, and again sacrifices her safety.

The clearing follows in the footsteps of Outside, by having another point of view along side Rileys.

Another look into the past by another young girl, One you might be surprised to see.

Her experience really will pull on your heartstrings. She was just a little girl, scared and confused. Yet, she still had the courage to help another girl, even younger than what she was.

Years pass, and she gives up hope on her torment ever ending, but then she gets a glimmer of hope.
Hope that's quickly diminished as she realizes that she's more alone than ever.

Though this all changes, When one very brave girl and her friends, put their life on the line to try and help all the lost children and put Greys evil reign in jeopardy.

Riley's out for blood, and she won't stop until she gets it.

'The Clearing' is a worthy follow-up to series opener 'Outside'. Once again there are intersecting storylines, which both broaden the story and link the past with the present.

I felt this book had a different atmosphere to 'Outside'. Whereas much of the action in 'Outside' takes place on the roads beyond Riley's safe Perimeter, 'The Clearing' spends more time within Salisbury's The Cathedral Close. This brings the reader into close proximity with the twisted James Grey (an uncomfortable experience, as it should be!) and his flock of brainwashed followers.

'The Clearing' contains plenty of action and tension - certainly enough to keep me engaged throughout, and reading a bit too quickly - as well as continuing the ongoing mystery about who killed Riley's sister, Skye.

Riley's relationship with Luc kept me interested, too. Other characters from 'Outside' return, but not everyone makes it out alive.

A solid four stars for this sequel. I'm really interested to find out how the relationships and events tie up in 'The Perimeter'.

After reading book 1 in this series i didn't think it could get any better. Color me wrong. This book was epic. Rileys story continues, Fred and Jessie make another appearance and the tension between Riley and Luc keeps on building, and we also get Liss and Freddy Jrs back story of how they got abducted.

*****Spoilers*****

Riley and Luc have to re-enter the Cathedral Close to try and find Liss and FJ, with the help of Denzil and Connor. Along the way we find Liss has resisted the brain washing while on the flip side FJ has accepted it hook, line and sinker. Liss has taken a young girl Annabelle under her wing and is determined to keep Annabelle safe and escape with her. Riley, Luc, Denzil and Connor are the rescue team, but one of them will not make it out alive.

**********

All in all if i could give this book more stars i would. I would totally recommend this book to everyone (in fact i have been :))

Book 2.

This is another book with alternating characters and storylines - not my favorite plot device, until the two threads merge.

The book starts shortly after the second one - this series is definitely one in which you need to read all of the books, or you'll really be lost. The beginning starts with a great scene that sets the tone for the rest of the book.

There's an underlining theme of brainwashing and cults, something I have a hard time stomaching. The book is written better than the first one, I think, but I had a hard time with the themes in this book.

Another Wow read! After Luc and Riley were rescued they return to their parents amd find out that Grey's disciples aka his army are on the move to conquer the perimeters and tale over control. And once again Luc and Riley must enter the lions den to try and save FJ and Liss. But when opportunities arise, things are said and unfortunate things happen. And 6 words are said..........
Fantastic writing once again

My first reading about apocalypse

I choose the rating of 5 stars because I couldn't put the book down.
you're gonna love the characters. The good ones.
I highly recommend this series. Seriously, if you've never been interested in the apocalypse, this series would make you change your mind. It did mine.

Rescue and Turnoil

In a planned plot Riley and Loc rescue Lisse , Anna, and Fj from the clutches of the fanatical religious leader Grey. All doesn't go as planned and Chaos results. Amid the mayhem they only manage to rescue Anna and Lisse as Fj has aligned with Grey. An adventure packed sequel in the Outside series.

I did like the plot premise but man is the writing technique all over the place. Why the author wrote in first person past tense is beyond me. Not much romance between Luc and Riley this time around either. I was not impressed this time around...

Thoroughly enjoyed this 2nd in the series, curious to see how it all panned out, only to find at the end that there's a 3rd to be published later this year : oh dear have to wait but am sure will enjoy that as well.

This story is part 2 of Outside. It's a story about doing something for someone else even though they've really screwed you over. In the end, it was all selfless and was even better than the first. I can't wait for the third book to come out.

Better than the 1st. I thought it was a little weird how the writer was portraying Annabelle to be little and fragile in the end when the escape is taking place when the character is supposed to be 13 by that time. Also, how many guards they managed to get passed was a little far fetched.

In my opinion this was the best book out of the series. The story seemed more thought out. While it could've used a bit more editing the story flowed better than the first book, and had a much better pace.
