DSM-IV Personality Disorders - Explained is a clearly written, concise introduction to character pathology. After an introductory chapter on the theoretical principles, each of the ten DSM-IV personality disorders is discussed in a separate chapter. This book is a condensation of Field Guide to Personality Disorders (ISBN 0-9680324-6-X), also published by Rapid Psychler Press. This book contains some clever illustrations and humor which enhances learning and retention of the material.
I enjoyed the humor he incorporated into his no-nonsense descriptions of personality disorders. His writing style, clear distinctions, and the consistent organizational structure of each chapter made the text accessible for first time reading and for use as a resource in the future. Although this is not my area of expertise, I would highly recommend it to anyone who works within this discipline.
