I read this first in high school when no one uploaded old or non-trendy books to Good Reads to tick off on reading lists. Found it clearing up old stuff and gave the collection of short stories a re-read - 8/10. An excellent late-night birthday read to leave you sated and content with life.
Favourite quotes: - And still, he's kissing me, owning my lips and tongue as if he doesn't want to set my mouth free to ask questions. - "Diane Johnson," I said, using the name I'd made up for this trip. "And, you're..." "I'm not as good at lying as you are, so I won't bother with my name." - Nigel reached over and tapped my nose. "Then, be a good one and put on some clothes. I need something to eat." This time, I gave him an evil look. He laughed. "I meant food." - The lights went out. He could have pulled her into his arms. Touched her. He could have put his mouth to hers and had the rain-diluted taste of her kiss on his tongue in no more than a heartbeat or two. - Both men had read my heartache, seen my loneliness and vulnerability. They understood my darkest desires-ones I hadn't let myself express out loud. - All the struggle in me is gone now. I relax, submit, accept. I'm a mass of horny female protoplasm to be manipulated by these two wickedly and deliciously perverted men. - He let out a slow breath and fought the natural inclination to pull her to him, to press his lips to hers and kiss her until they both forgot about anything and everything except each other. "Sometimes doing the wrong thing for the right reasons can land you in hell." - Gabriel's staring at me from behind the heavy frames of his glasses, his brown puppy-dog eyes full of aching sincerity. - He stood, impassive, as she flirted and danced and laughed with her circle of admirers. It was impossible to guess what he made of it all. But he watched her. Endlessly. Obsessively. Missing nothing. - "This is the first time I've danced at a ball in, oh, at least ten years. I've just destroyed my reputation as a gentleman who doesn't dance." - "She's an impulsive little thing, you see, and she's decided she likes you."
