Returning to the year 1564 to be reunited with valiant warrior Duncan, the man she loves, only to discover that he is bethrothed to another, Sydney Wyrrd, a powerful witch, vows to prove to Duncan that she is his destiny for all eternity. Original.
I have always enjoyed Donna Fletcher's books, but this one delved into magic and time travel, which is not one of my favorit things, as I do not believe in it. But it was a good read, because Donna always delivers. But some of her other books are lots better!
With her magic, the heroine truly has everything but there is one thing, one man, who she once loved and lost and has never found peace with. Given the chance at redemption, she eagerly accepts the gift of returning to the past to find the hero and repair all the heartache that came between them all those years ago.
The hero may not be the 25-year-old he used to be but his heart and his very soul still cries out for the woman who left him behind. As chieftain he must lead his people and the heroine's magic got in the way between their love and the clan so he ended up pushing her away. Now, 13 years later, he still visits the glen where they last spoke, hoping that the vision of his love will be reality this time around. Imagine his surprise to find the heroine standing before him as flesh and blood. He thinks he may have gone mad as he conversing with her, bares his soul to her and the nest thing he knows, she is gone again. Only, she returns that night and proudly stands inside his hall and declares she in home. The heroine's doubts of the hero's lasting feelings are put to reach upon seeing the desperate yearning in his eyes. He loves her still as she loves him and she's determined to be with him despite the hardships to come. He finds her in the forest and the attraction that once compelled their relationship makes itself known again but it's not just desire between them, it's an everlasting love. Both parties regret how things ended between them and they fall quickly into the easy love they once shared. But once again the heroine finds herself the target of superstition and ignorance and while the hero defends her to his clan, he himself struggles with the doubt this love between them could be in fact magic and not real. Still, he loves this woman and no man or woman will ever tare them apart again. He welcomes her magic and her tales of the future, he welcomes every part of her. The heroine finds herself in a stronger love affair than there ever was before and it's all the strength she needs to battle the warlock that's out to hurt her and those she loves.
This book started out very good. I was hooked by the desperate yearning between these 2 star-crossed lovers who loved and lost and now have a chance to love again. I was obsessed with the hero gentle but overwhelming need for this woman he left him 13 years ago to dream about her. He was a good man who knew in his heart the love he had for her was real but it's hard to love a magical woman who can heal the sick and travel through time. There's bound to be doubt that such a creature could love a near 40-year-old man who's lack of trust ended their relationship all those years ago. He only seemed to doubt the doubt when he wasn't in front of her. When he was with his sister listening to her poisoning words he saw the sense she was making, but when he was with the heroine, he was lost to the fact that he loved her no matter what. I liked the heroine who came from the future with all her medical knowledge and who genuinely wanted to help any and all in need despite the threat of witchcraft accusations. Together these two had an explosive chemistry but their lovemaking was funny and they could laugh and tease each other. No, the characters were not the problem. The issue I had with this book was the repetition of scenes and the slow pace which had the characters either freaking or battling the ignorant clan’s folk. You have to put a bit more 'magic' into the storyline especially because there was no need for the characters to meet and fall in love. They were already in love. As such, I can say I though this book was okay but not nearly as special as I thought it was going to be.
I started this book with high hopes, it's been on my shelf for years. I was disappointed in the storyline, I gave up in the first 30 pages. First, the two introductory characters tell the back story in conversation - which if they'd been together for hundreds of years, they both would be familiar with the story. The dialogue was stilted. I felt like the author was trying to tell us too much instead of letting us read between the lines or get into the characters' heads. Second, on page 30 the heroine (who is a witch in 1564) starts conjuring up a modern kitchen and bathroom in her cottage.
I'm all for fantasy if it's done well, but this book seems to be a half-formed thought that managed to get published.
Agak kecewa karena nggak seseru buku kedua sebelumnya, tetapi di sini jadi lebih tahu banyak masa lalu dan kisah asmara bibinya Dogan sih, hero di Magical Moments-nya Donna Fletcher :)
