EL MUERTO THE AZTEC ZOMBIE ORIGINS

Rate this book
The original El Muerto comics by Javier Hernandez from 1998-2008 are collected in this edition ! Long out of print, these stories tell the origin episodes of Diego de La Muerte and his transformation into El Muerto the Aztec Zombie! Born on Dia de Los Muertos, Diego suffers a fatal accident on his 21st birthday, only to find himself resurrected by the Aztec gods of Death and Destiny.

This innovative blend of Aztec mythology and Mexican folklore with Catholic mysticism and supernatural melodrama has attracted a cult following among comics fans. A 2007 film adaptation starring Wilmer Valderrama made El Muerto the first independent U.S. Latino comic book to become a movie.

All three original stories are reprinted here (Daze of the Dead, Dead Forever and Dead & Confused. Pt 1) along with commentary by creator Javier Hernandez on his process and production of the series. For this special El Muerto 25th Anniversary Edition there's a new Foreword by Rhode Montijo (The Gumazing Gum Girl, Skeletown) and a new Introduction by Emmy Award Winning storyboard artist and cartoonist (Sonambulo) Rafael Navarro.
