A brutal murder, a town living in fear, and a terrifying truth.

When the body of a brutally murdered man is found floating in the River Idle, DI Loxley’s team is called into the Nottinghamshire Market Town of Retford to solve the case.
But as they trawl through the clues and leads, it soon becomes clear there’s more happening here than a simple murder.

When a local reporter approaches Rob with more information, he starts to peel back the mystery.
The victim knew too much and was about to talk before being viciously silenced.

But as more is revealed, Rob is left with more questions than answers as he races to stop more lives from being wasted.
Who is The Red Man and the secretive, ruthless organisation that he leads?
Could the rumours really be true? Could a modern urban myth be real?

Rob and his team must untangle the web of secrets and lies to end the slaughter and strike a blow for justice.

Blood Red Ford is a gripping and compelling new British crime thriller, perfect for fans of TG Reid, Jack Gatland and Rachel Maclean.

Here we are already with book 5 in this brilliant series. This sees Rob returning to his hometown of Retford to investigate when the body of a man is found in the river having being brutally beaten. A reporter brings more information to Rob and slowly they being to get closer to the truth. There is also the local myth of the Red Man to contend with.

This has a more personal feel to it as by bringing Rob back to Retford, it means bringing him back into contact with his family. There's a lot of brutality throughout which made the story more gripping for me. A few surprise revelations towards the end totally threw me and it has turned this from an excellent read into a wow read. I'm gutted I've finished it already as it feels like the next book is really far away and I just want to read it right now.

A totally thrilling and enthralling book which will grab you from the outset and not let go again until the finish and even then you want more.
This is the fifth in the DI Loxley series and whilst you can read it as a standalone you would enjoy it more if you had read the previous ones ( you won't be disappointed in them). When a body is found floating in a river in Retford, Loxley's team are called in to investigate. This becomes personal to Loxley as that is where he grew up and where his family, of which he has distanced himself from, still stay.
This is a very fast paced book with a lot happening at the same time including kidnapping, murder, myth, police corruption and other violence. It is wonderfully put together by this author.
here's to the next one in the series!

Book 5 of the Detective Loxley series & the author has delivered again. This would read OK as a standalone but, to be honest, I would recommend you start at the beginning. Rob Loxley has a complex backstory & I think it would be of benefit to know it, rather than hints in subsequent books.

Loxley finds himself investigating a brutal murder in his hometown of Retford. A place he would rather not be. Add in to the mix the local Red Man legend & Rob’s unwanted reconnection with his family.

A great read, delving further in to Rob’s history & a studious understanding of a police investigation. I had an inkling where the conclusion would take me but I was completely wrong. Highly recommended & ready for book 6.

This series just gets better and better and it started off being brilliant! In this one, we find Loxley returning to his home town which he has avoided for years due to personal reasons ( hence it is best to read the others - you won't be disappointed!) . Along with his team, he is trying to find out about a murder next to the river. Plus we are told about The Red Man who maybe a myth but then again...... Plenty of excitement and drama going on to make this another great page turner. Roll on book 6!

Thanks to the author for the ARC to review.

This is a great addition to the Detective Loxley series, one of the best in the genre! In the latest episode we have a kidnapping, murder and a personal connection for Rob to deal with. The plotting is excellent, with plenty tension and some unexpected surprises and great character development. It's dark, with a lot of brutal scenes but I was engrossed to the end and disappointed that I had finished the read. Roll on book 6! Thanks to the author for my ARC, I absolutely loved it!

Rob, A case leading him to his home town.

A kidnapping, a murder and it was very early morning. Rob had been called in regarding the murder and left the kidnapping to Nick while he traveled down to Retford, his old home town, he wasn’t looking forward to that. Exciting book although very gruesome in parts also Rob’s family keeps showing up as expected.

Absolutely love this series of Books - particularly as they are set in Nottinghamshire and very local to me. The main Character is a complicated person and has issues but the author keeps him focussed and they are an excellent read

Great work

It's hard to see us at book 5 already but this is my favourite so far as we learn more about the cryptic past that has engaged us so well in the background. Fraine has become a regular on my crime reading list and paints a realistic series.

What does the local myth of The Red Man have to do with the death of a man found floating in a river?

When Rob Loxley has to go back to his home town of Retford to investigate, he hopes he can finally put some ghosts to rest as well.

After losing his job due to his harassment of Loxley, Bill is still stewing and after revenge. Becoming more and more angry, he takes his aggression out on those closest to him.

This is the fifth book in this brilliant series and I do hope they keep on coming!

I like Rob’s character and his great relationship with his team - well, most of the members of his team.

Each book gives us more information on the team and the parts that they play.

I always find myself getting cross with someone in these stories as I take each book to my heart and don’t like seeing the main characters getting hurt in any way!

After starting to look for a missing person, Rob Loxley is called to a murder in his home old home town, a place he's been avoiding for years. He finds the place full of graffiti about a 'Red Man'. Is this a myth or a real person? Rob's about to find out. He's able to link his two investigations in an exciting story. I was gripped to the end.

Blood Red Ford by A.L. Fraine is book 6 in the DI Rob Loxley series and is set in Nottingham. There have been rumours of The Red Man for quite a few years, but it has been put down to an urban myth. With a kidnapping and a murder, the myth raises its ugly head again. Mary Day, the journalist, has been doing research for the last couple of years for an article on The Red Man and ends up in danger herself. Rob has come to Retford to investigate, a town he left 20 years ago. This brings him closer to the Mason crime family, his family. It is certainly a gritty read and even creepy and twisted in parts. There are a few connected storylines which were engrossing and a couple of surprises. There is incredible tension as the pace ramps up as Rob and the East Midlands Special Operations Unit tackle more violent and organised crime.
