Fiction and poetry from one of lesbian literature's most uncompromising voices. Never afraid to address the harsh realities of working-class lesbian life, Chea Villanueva charts territory frequently overlooked in the age of lesbian chic.
gritty, horrifying, honest, and tender depiction of butchfemme life, lesbian prison scenes, and unbreakable bonds. my favs were eulogy for a butch, the bad girl, and the chinagirls
I love Chea's poetry. This book is what I imagine they mean when they say gritty. It is a unapolagetic look at life for working class lesbians, real women's lives. It's not dressed up in pretty clothes (unless you count the sexy suits) it is not a series of erotic vignettes written to titillate the hetero public.
It is well written and surprisingly poignant. I really enjoyed it and am now looking for the book she speaks about in the final story in Bulletproof titled Chinagirls.
