Conscience

It can scarcely be denied that most of us experience difficulty in getting the moral side of our Christian life to keep pace with the religious side. The reason for this is not, however, that we emphasize to strongly the religious phase of our relationship to God. We cannot emphasize that too strongly. Our failure lies much rather in not emphasizing the moral aspect enough. As a result out Christian life becomes either dryly intellectual or else unduly emotional, feverish, and tense. In either event we tend to overlook and to neglect practical, every-day Christianity. It is my desire to deal in this little book with the moral side of the Christian life.

I read this around 1992 because I really didn't understand the nature or function of the conscience. What does the passage in the book of Hebrews about our 'conscience' being purified by the blood of Christ mean? I was a young Christian at the time. This book was very helpful to me. He is a wonderful writer and has a pastoral heart. It is definitely worth reading on the subject.
