Triad Magic is an introduction to chord theory for guitar, with access to videos online. You will learn how basic chords are constructed from scales, laying the groundwork to understanding more complex chords. We are here to take you on an exciting journey towards understanding the guitar chords you already play, and maybe some you don’t.
~ Understand How Basic Chords Work ~ Learn Several Ways to Play Any Song ~ Access to Online Video Demonstrations ~ Put Arpeggios to Work in Your Leads ~ Gain a Better Knowledge of the Neck
You’ll be able to take any song, go to any area of the guitar neck, and find a new approach to your already familiar chords. With this knowledge you can improve your lead playing by seeing how scales are directly related to triad shapes, find rhythm parts that cut through the mix, and further solidify your basic chord expertise.
By the end of this book, you will be able to construct whichever chord forms you think are necessary for a song, based on what the other players in the band are already playing, and where you want to fit into that sound. And when you learn the parts of an existing song, by one of your favorite artists, you will have a better understanding of how they constructed the parts. Your solos will also be likely to improve as well, because you will have a greater awareness of how the lead patterns lay over the chord shapes along the neck. Triad Magic is super fun and easy to follow.
In the long run, understanding chord construction will help your composing, playing, teaching and communication with other musicians. TRIAD MAGIC is designed to give you that extra edge.
We only have five fingers to play the guitar's six strings. Finding out that we only need three fingers to play a whole lot of good music really was like finding a magic formula. This book comes with a lot of online interaction that will make it possible to learn by ear as well as by tablature. There is so much information here---and so many musical possibilities---that without the ear training it may be difficult to quickly find out what pleases you the most. The best way to learn the material is probably to learn a little, incorporate it into your playing, then come back for another dose. In other words, make it easy on yourself. I started reading this book for free but quickly realized that I would have to own it. Reading it on a Kindle next to a PC next to a guitar would be the deluxe version of how to learn this stuff.
That was easily one of the best music theory books I’ve read, certainly the most enjoyable and digestible. I’m recommending this to everyone I can. Lays out a bunch of scary theory concepts in easy to understand and simple language. Probably not good for high-level music experts or people just picking up an instrument but this was perfect for me.
lots of good information and links to YouTube videos
The links to the videos are really helpful. I was reading this on my iPhone and if I found a section that I needed some clarity on I could just click on the link and watch him demonstrate what was on the page. Very good. He also did a very good job showing all the different ways triads can be used.
This is a great study on simple triads, done in notation and guitar TAB. Solid, informative, and very needed. Every player I know could use more study in this area! Be prepared to be challenged!
