This 460 page book was published in 1998 and documents the entire history of the radio and television series SUSPENSE, broadcast over CBS from 1942 to 1962. Best remembered as the king of radio thrillers, bringing guest stars from both Broadway and Hollywood to star in roles never before heard of. Frank Sinatra was a psychopath in one episode, Lucille Ball danced with a murderer, Ronald Reagan was framed for murder and Dick Beals shrunk microscopic. This book features a history of the program, an episode guide with titles, airdates, casts, plots (even to the "lost" episodes), and complete documentation with photos of the SUSPENSE movies, mystery magazines and comic books.
Martin Grams is an author and old-time radio enthusiast whose more than twenty books on the subject have qualified him as an expert. He is generous and helpful to his fans and colleagues and his name can often be found in the credits of books dedicated to radio and early television.
While he is one of the younger fans of old-time radio, Martin does not like to talk about his youth, as it proved a hindrance to him when he tried to get his first book published. Determined, Grams decided to self-publish his book about Suspense and has done so several times subsequently.
In addition to writing and researching, Martin and his wife Michelle run the Mid-Atlantic Nostalgia Convention in Hunt Valley, Maryland.
Suspense was one of the legendary anthology series of the Golden Age of Radio -- lasting 20 years. Martin Grams, one of the premier authors on all things nostalgic, does an outstanding job of chronicling this great series. This is a very informative book on one of my favorite radio shows!
About 150 pages comprise the main text of the book. The bulk contains a listing of episodes and their credits and other index pages like a listing of the television episodes and films relating to Suspense.
