I was given those book by a friend, and tried cooking on recipe (chocolate cupcakes). The batter was thick, and unpourable. It had to be spooned into the cupcake pan, and following the directions, baked up dry and inedible. It turns out it wasn't a mistake I made following the recipe - all reviews on amazon.com offer the exact same feedback on every recipe tried. How this mockery of a cookbook ever got published is beyond me.
While some of the cupcakes look appetizing, nearly everything in this book called for self-rising flour. The cupcakes themselves were pretty simple, but nothing interesting, except for the rose cupcakes.
unlike alot of recipe books, I find it very hard to mess up the recipes in this book. making just about perfect cupcakes every time is a big plus, but also it's versatility in that you can easily adapt, mix and match the recipes to your own taste. the design is fun, colourful and readable.
