A man, tormented by the past, seeks revenge against powerful law-breakers in a totally unorthodox way. Hall Marshall has a plan to take out a group of sadistic slavers known as The Takers--he must infiltrate the group with a well-trained sex slave. A woman, an unwilling assistant, must learn the ways of sexual bondage and submission to survive. Shanel Fox, former cop, is kidnapped by Hall. Not realizing she is the bait for the trap, Shanel believes Hall has claimed her for himself. To survive, she must submit to his intense, life-and-body-changing training. When she discovers the truth, will she still be willing to become The Taker's next possession in order to save other women? But Hall and Shanel find out love has a way of taking its own captives. Hall goes against everything he believes he must do to properly train Shanel in this daring and dangerous assignment. Can he set aside his growing feelings to perfect their cover and turn her into the consummate sexual slave?
Under her "real" name, Vonna Harper has published more fiction than she can keep track of . These include category romances for the major players as well as the 'juicy' stuff. She also penned a series of well-received Native American historicals. One earned her finalist status in both the Women Writing the West Willa award and Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association. Before discovering romances, both erotic and otherwise, Vonna 'confessed' all kinds of nonsense for the confession magazines.
When asked about erotica research, she insists, "Of course I've time-traveled to the ancient Everglades, infiltrated bondage strongholds, done wilderness search and rescue, and spent a night trapped in a workout gym with Mr. Universe. How can I possibly write about something I haven't experienced?"
As for day jobs, "I've been a commercial pilot, brain surgeon, worked as a white-water river guide, bee keeper, snake charmer, and garbage collector."
This book started out exciting and interesting. I was totally intrigued as to where it was going to go and then it sort of unraveled when the plan is revealed. It would have been better if she WAS a cop and agreed to an unknown undercover assignment - not expecting an abduction and training to be part of the plan.
All the work to prepare her and when she gets there the whole bit about the bad guys is sort of glossed over and the "training" ends up being pretty pointless. I wanted her to have to use her wits and smarts to get the information - not just have it fall in her lap the first night.
And she is totally concerned about the girls but not enough that it deters her from having sex withe her lover (who was shot-eye roll) before she knows how it all pans out for them. AND honestly, I could not take an organization named SHIT too seriously.
Ho hum. I really wanted to like this book but it missed the mark for me.

This is not your ordinary romance novel, but I couldn't put it down. Reading Vonna's other works now - it's not for the faint of heart, so be warned - hardcore slave/master stuff.
In case the title and blurb don't make it obvious, the core of this book is non-consent. I had to work pretty hard at suspending belief for the premise (which is very similar to this author's "Going Down," as is much of the story). The main characters are well drawn (as to be expected from this author). The emotions feel authentic, especially those of the heroine. There are some very hot scenes, and only a few typos. I'm a fan of Vonna Harper's, but this one didn't work as well for me as some of her others. I enjoyed, for example, "Scarlet Cavern" much better.
This book is definitely not for the faint at heart. Lots of explicit BDSM, slave market... along with danger, intrigue and a budding romance. There are a few typos, but the story was believable and well written.
