A light-hearted enjoyable book of essentially a life swap. One girl loses her memory and is accidentally claimed by the Amish who think she is Elisabeth. But Elisabeth is enjoying life in the modern world.
What's nice about this is Brianna's happy embrace of Amish life and all works out in satisfactorily in the end. It's also a very Christian read.
It must be said though that Brianna and Elisabeth who share nonbiological connection are absolutely identical, something the plot hinges on. This is obviously impossible but something the author provides no explanation for. It is something you are expected to accept. If you can't, you won't enjoy this book.
Overall this is an enjoyable enough read with a sweetly Christian flavour but I do think it would have benefited from a more ruthless editor.
I enjoy reading Amish novels for several reasons. The first is that I can be assured of a good clean story, which appeals to my values. Secondly, I spent much of my life living near an Amish community in Ohio and I have grown to love and respect these wonderful people.
J.E.B. Spredemann weaves a thread of love and intrigue into a quilt of faith and values. A young Amish woman leaves behind her family and beau to explore the city life. She gets a job, makes new fiends, and eventually meets the man she will marry. Meanwhile a young city woman is involved in a tragic accident that leaves her with amnesia just hours after she has rejected the faith of her boyfriend. As she struggles to learn her identity her family has no idea she is still alive.
How the lives of these two women become entwined is the basis of this novel. The authour depicts the Amish with accuracy and sensitivity. Great read for young adults or older.
An English and an Amish girl who look enough alike to be sisters share their stories in this great book.
English Brianna was going to visit her friend Heidi but forgot her id , on her way back home she was involved in a very serious accident in which she lost her memory.
Amish Elizabeth is unhappy being Amish and leaves for the English world.
One loses their memory and assumes the other's life by accident.
I loved it so much I was unable to put it down once I picked it up. I would get to an end of a chapter and try to put it down to see that I had it in my hand again for the next chapter.
I really enjoyed this book it was a good storyline about a girl who after being in a accident & can't remember who she is, then she told she is Elizabeth Schrock a Amish girl so goes to what is Elizabeth's family
Elizabeth had left the Amish & is in the English world, they have in affect swapped lives the Real Elizabeth met & goes out with Brianna Mitchell boyfriend both girls look like twins
Brianna Mitchell family believe she had died in a plane crash so is not looking for her
Imagine waking up in a huge, anonymous hospital in New York City and having no memory of who you are or where you came from. From this point to the fulfilling end, You'll follow the story of two very separate families whose lives come crashing together in a most peculiar way. Filled with love, faith, mouth-watering descriptions of dinners, J. E. B. Spredeman delivers big time with Amish by Accident.
The book combines the often used amnesia victim plot and "strangers who look alike" theme and sets it in complete different outer circumstances: you get to know Amish life and the bustle of NY. That makes the novel quite interesting despite several inconsistencies: In 2012 airlines have lists of all passengers on board. They would then contact families, so if Brianna was on the plane her parents would have gotten a call. So it was strange her parents didn't investigate more the whereabouts of their daughter. Living in NY is expensive and having a car in NY unusual especially for a young woman with low income. So how could Elisabeth drive her car to Carson's house?
For me as a German reader it was interesting to see all the German/Schwabian words they still use. A nice read.
AUTHOR: quote from Goodreads regarding the author; “J.E.B. Spredemann writes Christian fiction to uplift, inspire, make you laugh, and touch your heart.”

WHAT I LIKED: Each section and chapter in this book is a comparison of the events in each woman's life; switching back and forth as the story weaves itself into God's plan.
WHAT I DID NOT LIKE: Stop the crying every five seconds please.
RATING: (5) stars BECAUSE great characters each with distinct personalities and fantastic storyline. You know somehow things are going to meet but this book keeps you wondering how. Bible references are right on target. God’s plan when we put ourselves in God’s hands.
I like reading about the Amish due to the Christian and wholesome aspects of the story. The life is simple and Amish believe in hard work and are not lazy. Henry David Thoreau stated, "Our life is frittered way by detail. Simplicity, Simplicity…" Amish is organized and simple and not wasteful. The story, however is convoluted that you are lead to believe that 2 girls look exactly alike and sound alike that one Mother can't recognize her own daughter. It sets up the plot with the Amish girl, Elisabeth going on Rumspringa but in realty she doesn't plan to comeback as she wanted 'out of dodge'. The English girl (outsider or non-Amish)was to go visit overseas on a plane trip and the plane went down killing everyone aboard. Everyone thought Brianna was dead. However, she missed the flight but didn't miss getting hurt and getting retrograde amnesia, which unable to remember anything prior getting hurt, including who she was. Elisabeth's friend saw Brianna at the hospital and thought she was Elisabeth and brought her home to the Amish world. You need to read the book to see how Elisabeth and Brianna finally meet and how their love relationships are affected with their home life and families. The author did a good job of reeling you in as I did want to finish the story but I already knew that a Mom had to know if a person stood in front of her was family or not. It makes you think???
This book had some interesting twists, and I love this author's writing. However, this particular story was difficult to believe...an Amish girl and an Englisch girl look so much alike that they accidentally end up in each others role/lives when one gets amnesia. I was hoping at some point we'd learn that they were twins and never knew it - one raised Amish and one not. Then it would be more believable to me that a fiance and a mother could think the look-alike was the girl they'd always loved and known. I wouldn't think any two people could look so much alike to warrant such a situation unless they were identical twins. Aside from that, the story moved along smoothly and I always enjoy an Amish read.
This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I enjoyed it immensely. Two young women and two young men make for an interesting read. Grab a copy of this book and enjoy the journey. Come see what happens when one young lady is mistaken for another. It makes for an interesting read.
Would you be concerned if a loved one of yours was not a believer nor were they interested in becoming one? Never give up hope! This story gives you a chance to see for yourself what trusting in God can do.
I hope to read more inspirational books by this author. Five stars from me!
Loved the book. what a blessing too Brianna and Elisabeth so much the same yet so very different. the same could be said for Like and Carson. I only wish it was more details on the whole difference between the two girls
I was raised around the Amish living in central Pa and I have always enjoyed reading a bout their life style because unless you know the community they never talk about themselves this book was amazing in how they change places and it is very believable
How can anyone become Amish by mistake? But it happens! This book was a refresh. A little mystery with a twist. You will want to read this one to see just how a person can become Amish without being born into it. It will keep you glued to your reader!
I don't usually read Amish novels but their beliefs are interesting to me so I decided to start reading stories about them. This was the first one I've read and it was a very sweet.
⏱ Sixty second, no spoiler summary Amish woman Elizabeth leaves her beau and home to explore the real world. Englisher Brianna plans to take a trip to Europe but forgets her passport and has to head home. She gets into an accident on the way home and subsequently has amnesia. While in the hospital Elizabeth’s friend Rachel see Brianna and thinks she is Elizabeth. Since Briana has no memory, she rolls with it and heads back to Amish Pennsylvania where she falls in love with the real Elizabeth’s beau, Luke. Elizabeth ends up meeting Brianna’s ex, Connor and they date. Almost a “princes and the pauper” style tale, with one of the characters not knowing who they really are. Happy ending with a lot of religious undertones throughout.
👍🏻Turn Ons Amish books make me smile. I love the simplicity of the lifestyle. It was fun to explore the Amish lifestyle as Brianna (who everyone thinks is Elizabeth), although I’m pretty familiar with it because of other books I’ve read. The plot was there and I wasn’t sure how the ending would all wrap up. It came together well.
👎🏻 Turn Offs There is a lot of evangelizing in the middle of the book with a big “come to Jesus” moment. I’m a Christian and not opposed to this at all, but to me it felt awkward. I also found it odd that Connor was so in love with Elizabeth, initially based on the fact that she looked so much like his ex, Brianna. I think I would always be second guessing my boyfriend if he liked me originally because he thought I was someone else he had once loved. The conclusion of the amnesia felt rushed and almost unbelievable.
👵🏻 Safe to talk about with Grandma? Oh yes. No language, no sex, no violence. This one is definitely grandma approved.
⭐Rating ⭐ I gave this book 3 stars because while it was a cute story, it was not the best Amish story I have ever read. There is more in the series, but I will not be continuing on.
Title & Author: Amish by Accident by JEB Spredemann Format: Kindle Read: 2/26/21-2/28/21 Rating: Three stars
This short Amish novel offers a different type of tale than most. A young Amish woman moves from her home community and her lookalike with amnesia ends up taking her place. The story seems farfetched at times, but is a delightful read. I would like for some places to be fleshed out a bit more rather than move along so quickly. The characters are pretty well developed and do grow and change. Although one guy’s quick turnaround regarding children seems hard to believe. There is some head-hopping too, with point of view changing within a scene. In spite of this, I enjoyed the book. I won a copy from the author. All opinions are my own.
I always enjoy these Amish tales and this one was no exception. It was a quick read and was entertaining but very far fetched. The concept of two people born to different unrelated families being so identical that their own relatives cannot see the difference between them makes this a somewhat contrived story line.
I also found the ease with which some of the characters changed their though processes and beliefs a bit unlikely, though not impossible.
It is a fun read though and emphasizes the reliance on God to guide one's life.
Perfect tittle and a really good story. I marked an error at @Location 2070 where someone is able to travel via two conveyance yet wasn't carrying money. And did not go home to get any.
Shortly after this, the person steps out of a "car". You have an idea, right?
But it wasn't a "car". It was a "taxi". Different vision.
What a nitpicker!!! Expect Spredemann doesn't make these kinds of errors. A first reader or beta reader should have caught this. I know. I've been one.
While I don't deny there were some confusing parts to this 3 couple love story/mystery, I had a hard time putting it down! I didn't know this was the second book in the series, but I fell right into it.
While one woman is Amish and changed to an Englisher on purpose, a Englisher loses her memory and finds love, God and a life she loved more than anything.
The character 's are great..the inner twists and turns are perfect, and the ending makes you know God's hand brought everything and everyone together. Loved this book!!
This was a good book, but at times a little confusing trying to keep the characters straight. Elisabeth Schrock decides to leave the Amish community and her family to live the life of the 'English.' She's very happy although she misses her family. Brianna Mitchell is 'English' and has an accident that left her with amnesia. Through several complications and mistakes she's mistaken for Elisabeth and is taken to live with Elisabeth's family. Some of the story is on the unbelievable side, but I did finish the book.
I love Amish books. They are simple, hard working people with close family ties, and always helping out others. I admire that in them. Brianna and Elizabeth (who look like twins) basically trade places in life. Before anyone realizes what has happened, Brianna (who had lost her memory in a car accident) became Amish and married Luke. Then Elizabeth shows back up home and everyone is confused. Love wins out in the end. Luke stays married to Brianna (who wants to stay Amish) and Elizabeth marries Brianna's boyfriend, Carson, and stays English, and they all remain friends.

I couldn't put this book down! I don't normally gravitate to Amish novels since it can get distracting to not understand all the Amish words mixed into the story, but the title had me hooked. I can understand how an Amish person might want to leave their community to explore life outside, but not the other way around. I enjoyed getting to know the characters and also know a little more about Amish life compared to English life and looked forward to reading the rest of this trilogy!
I have read many Amish related books and this one gives two possibilities that could have happened. I know that it is highly unlikely, but at least one could happen in reality on its own. I was able to see how someone would move into the Amish community and another could could move out of and return to it. I enjoyed how Spredemann gave character to each perspective and made the people came alive for me.
Why did it take me so long (73/years )before I read my first Amish novel. This story has enough twists & turns of any good detective story. I’m looking forward to delving into Amish country, through novels. I remember visiting the Penn Dutch community in and around Lancaster and this took me right back to those formative years. I could almost hear the buggy passing by!
